Sinn Féin propose Belfast bonfire motion blocking pyres on council land without permission Bonfire material at Bloomfield Walkway in east Belfast was removed earlier this month. Paul Ainsworth 21 July, 2021 01:00 A motion to remove all bonfire material from sites owned by Belfast City Council is to be proposed that will only allow pyres to be built on council land through a "robust" application process. The motion is being brought forward by Sinn Féin group leader in the council, Ciaran Beattie, in a bid to prevent "dangerous" bonfires being built on council property without permission from the local authority. The move follows disputes between the council and loyalist bonfire builders in the city in recent years.
