Skaters enjoy Ann Arbor lake that almost didn’t get to freeze over this winter Updated Feb 07, 2021; Facebook Share ANN ARBOR – On a chilly Friday afternoon in late January, the Nieubuurt siblings skated on First Sister Lake in Ann Arbor, after their online schooling was over. As the sun gleamed off the ice, Rebecca Nieubuurt, the children’s mother, watched as Frances, 8, and Felix, 6, giggled and tried to stay upright on their skates. “A couple neighborhood kids were out here clearing off the lake so that people could walk and skate,” said Nieubuurt. “We just bought skates, but we’ve been going out and walking every day for about a month just to get out of the house.”
