IN THE MOUNTAINS, IT WAS A WELCOME SIGHT. JACK THURSTON TELLS US SKIERS AND RIDERS AT KILLINGTON... WERE ALL SMILES. You could still see grass through fat flakes in many spots in Vermont - ((Nats)) But in the mountains ((COURTNEY DiFIORE / Killington Resort: 5:12:30: it's a welcomed surprise for sure.)) The way the snow was piling up looked more like December 16th than April 16th ((JOHNNY FITZ / Snowboarder: 5:44:52: couldn't ask for a better day than today!)) ááThis group from the Boston area booked a weekend at Killington Resort a few weeks ago, so the timing feels really lucky. ((STEPHEN CARBONE / Skier: 5:44:04: obviously the weather can change in New England. It was mid- 50s, mid-60s, and then a few days before we headed out, we saw what was actually going to occur, so we're pretty excited about that!)) ((KATERINA CLOUGH / Snowboarder: 5:43:42: it's really beautiful - to have a fresh powder day in April is kind of unheard of, so just to be able to come out here and still enjoy the end of the season is pretty chill.)) ááThe slopes, of course, lost a lot of snow cover in the recent warmup, and were even getting a few bare patches, we're told. ((MAX McCLELLAN / Killington Mountain School 7th Grader: 5:28:00: normally we're spring skiing in the mud and stuff.)) He and fellow student-athletes from the Killington Mountain School, where kids combine training and academics, saw close to a white-out up top. ((ARTHUR PADILHA / Killington Mountain School Student: 5:29:54: it's almost like a miracle - because usually we have storms like this in the beginning of the year.)) ((JACK THURSTON: 5:49:42: when you woke up this morning and saw this much snow, what was your reaction? ELLA STRONG / Killington Mountain School Student: I was so happy to get out here. Our training trail, two days ago, it had no snow. And we're so psyched to have this powder day.)) Killington prides itself on late-season operations - so sees this as a "refresh," pushing the destination into May. ((COURTNEY DiFIORE / Killington Resort: 5:17:47: everybody is super stoked to have snow in the middle of April. You can hear it from our guests skiing right now!
