Updated: 11:18 PM EST Feb 23, 2021 WXII12.com Web Staff Some Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools students will start spending more time receiving in-person instruction in the classroom instead of learning remotely. The school board decided on Tuesday night to increase the number of days students are in school buildings by eliminating cohorts for fourth and fifth grades and some middles schools. Fourth and fifth-grade cohorts will be eliminated to allow students to attend school in-person four days a week. This goes into effect on March 8 for fourth grade and starts on March 15 for fifth graders. Middle schools splint into four cohorts will shift to two cohorts, as long as 6 feet of social distancing can be adhered to in classrooms, the school district said. The district will begin working with exceptional students that have IEPs and 504 plans to offer in-person learning to middle and high school students four days per week starting March 15. The school district is analyzing high school data and plans to provide an update at the COVID Committee meeting on March 16. Any changes proposed at that meeting would be approved at the March 23 meeting.
