View Comments MOUNTAIN - Just in time for spring fishing, fishing piers and a boardwalk along the South Branch Oconto River are again ready for use. The site in the town of Doty was reopened Thursday by the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The quarter-mile boardwalk and series of fishing piers that provide a more accessible way to enjoy the Class I trout stream was originally opened more than 20 years ago. It was built by the forest in conjunction with the Wisconsin Conservation Corps, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, local chapters of Trout Unlimited and other partners. But, the site deteriorated and, along with damage from frost heaving, created safety hazards.
