South Burlington finds public recreation areas vandalized

A string of vandalism incidents in several public areas of South Burlington have some residents concerned and, in one case, heartbroken.
The city has seen an increase in destruction in Farrell Park and along the recreation path near the former Wheelock Farm in recent months, South Burlington police said. Police Chief Shawn Burke called the activities "senseless."
"I can’t say the acts are definitively the same person, but given the proximity and similarity, I wouldn’t be surprised," Burke said.
One resident, Jacques-Paul "J.P." Marton, says he is trying not to take the destruction of cairns he has built along the recreation path personally. For almost a decade, he has built the cairns from rocks and other objects he's discovered while tending the land now owned by the University of Vermont. He has stopped rebuilding the destroyed cairns, at least for a little while.
