View Comments A probationary officer with the Speedway Police Department is facing preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he was arrested while off duty Tuesday on the west side of Indianapolis, according to police. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers arrested Brandon Thompson, 22, at his apartment complex near Lawndale Avenue and Beachway Drive shortly before 2 a.m., Speedway Police said in a news release. Thompson was off duty at the time of the incident and was driving a personal vehicle. The 22-year-old joined the Speedway Police force in February and is a probationary officer — officers do not receive permanent officer status until they've spent a year on duty, officials said.
