WAUSAU – A 20-year-old man charged in the Dec. 29 shooting death of a Marshfield man in Spencer admitted to the killing, according to newly filed court documents. Jared R. Carl, of Eau Pleine, told a Marathon County sheriff's detective Friday that he killed Christian Schauer, 20, of Marshfield, but that it didn't happen the way one of his co-defendants said it did, according to a criminal complaint prosecutors filed Tuesday. Co-defendant Audrey R. Benson, 20, of Marshfield, was supposed to appear Wednesday morning in Marathon County court, but her attorney asked a judge to postpone the hearing after District Attorney Theresa Wetzsteon filed the new complaint. Benson faces charges of being a party to the crimes of first-degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse.
