SRC discusses college status, budget and vaccine Devon Greene Voice Correspondent CANTON/MACOMB — The Spoon River College board met on Wednesday evening to discuss the state of the college along with its budget and the incoming COVID-19 vaccine. A main focus concerned the fate of the college's budget at the state level due to the future of the Illinois Speaker of the House being up in the air at the moment. If there is no speaker, there will be no mechanism for consideration of any legislation, handling of committee assignments, chairmanships or legislative calendar. The Interstate Community College Trustees Association Representative also said that the state budget is facing a projected $3.9 billion shortfall in this year’s fiscal budget, and that the graduated income tax amendment that was on the ballot in November was the supposed resolution to the budget issue. As of now, the college is waiting for the state and federal government to pass any stimulus packages and other legislation and their budget should most likely not be affected for fiscal year 2021.
