Thursday, July 29, 2021 - 5:43 pm OGDENSBURG — Discussions over whether or not to the county should take over some of the city’s law enforcement duties have begun. St. Lawrence County Sheriff Brooks J. Bigwarfe and City Manager Steven Jellie met Thursday (July 29) to discuss launching a study on consolidating law enforcement duties between the city and county, said an official statement from the sheriff’s office. The informational meeting was simply to obtain data and objectives towards consolidation from the city so the sheriff could review and discuss matters with other county offices, the statement said. “As stated in the past, Sheriff Bigwarfe confirms that he will continue to support law enforcement in the County, which includes the City of Ogdensburg Police Department. Public safety and first responders must be top priority for local government leaders as there is no greater duty of government than to ensure the safety of its citizens,” said the statement.
