Thursday, July 29, 2021 - 5:43 pm OGDENSBURG Discussions over whether or not to the county should take over some of the city’s law enforcement duties have begun. St. Lawrence County Sheriff Brooks J. Bigwarfe and City Manager Steven Jellie met Thursday (July 29) to discuss launching a study on consolidating law enforcement duties between the city and county, said an official statement from the sheriff’s office. The informational meeting was simply to obtain data and objectives towards consolidation from the city so the sheriff could review and discuss matters with other county offices, the statement said. “As stated in the past, Sheriff Bigwarfe confirms that he will continue to support law enforcement in the County, which includes the City of Ogdensburg Police Department. Monday, July 12, 2021 - 5:17 pm OGDENSBURG Ogdensburg Police Chief Robert Wescott will retire from the city police force at the end of the month. “The City of Ogdensburg respectfully announces the well earned retirement of Police Chief Robert Wescott. Chief Wescott served the Ogdensburg Police Department in every rank and capacity for over 25 years since beginning his career in 1996.,” City Manager Stephen Jellie said. Wescott is a graduate of Lisbon High School, SUNY Canton and a member of the first graduating class of the David Sullivan St. Lawrence County Law Enforcement Academy. Chief Wescott resides in Ogdensburg with his companion of 11 years, Andrea and their 5 children. ....
