union members picket outside Marathon refinery in St. Paul ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – 200 workers at the Marathon Refinery in St. Paul say they are striking over workplace safety concerns. A spokesperson for Teamsters Local 120 says the company is demanding operation changes that will create major safety concerns. The union says Marathon won’t bargain over the changes and their impacts. Workers are worried that the company wants to use lowest-bidder subcontractors for jobs that are safety-sensitive. They say more workload could be added to already-overloaded positions. The union points to the April 2018 explosion at the Husky Refinery in Superior, Wisconsin as an example of what could happen.
