Lakes Region rescue personnel responded to reports of two boats in distress on Sebago Lake Sunday afternoon around the time a quick-hitting rainstorm, packing powerful winds, whipped up 3-foot waves on the lake.
Raymond Fire Chief Bruce Tupper said the town’s Marine 1 boat crew responded around 2 p.m. to the report of a pontoon boat taking on water. He said the boat was actually not taking on water, but the three people on board were concerned that the large waves would swamp their craft. As the winds died down, Tupper said the operators were able to safely pull into a cove, where members of the town’s rescue boat met them and escorted them back to shore.
