CHRIS MARSHALL/Stuff An area north of the Poihipi Road intersection with Wairakei Drive would contain a mix of medium density and general residential sections. A residential subdivision that could see 780 sections created on Taupō’s northern outskirts has vaulted a first planning hurdle with the Taupō District Council – but not without some signalling of likely public concern. While the foreseeable worries of some residents to Taupō’s north and west about traffic congestion were signalled by two councillors, council chief executive officer Gareth Green said accepting the private plan change request was an initial procedural step. “I just don’t want you to get into a place where you are conflicted in the future discussions and decisions that you need to make, so please just focus on the procedural elements at this point,” he told the last full meeting of the council for 2020.
