Sugar Land drainage improvement project to begin next November

The Sugar Land City Council recently approved an infrastructure improvement project aimed at reducing flooding within certain areas of the city.
According to a news release from the city, the council approved an engineering design contract to improve drainage in the Austin Park and Chimneystone subdivisions of Sugar Land. The city said that area’s drainage issues were a “top priority” identified by Sugar Land residents through the 2020 Citizen Satisfaction Survey.
The project is part of Sugar Land’s 2019 General Obligation (GO) Bond Program, according to the city, and will attempt to reduce structure flooding risks and reduce the ponding depths and durations during major rain events. It is scheduled to begin work in November 2022.
