Duterte are hoping for a miracle so she would accept the challenge to run for president in the coming 2022 polls. This, after she posted on her official Facebook page announcing her decision to run for reelection as the mayor in Davao City instead. In an interview here on Thursday, Davao Occidental Governor Claude Bautista, national chairperson of the Ituloy ang Pagbabago Movement (IPM) 2022, said they respect the decision of the presidential daughter but remained hopeful of a miracle until October 8. "As a member of Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) and as a supporter of the mayor, I respect her decision. It is not easy especially in their family because President Rodrigo Duterte has also sacrificed. So, it is just rightful that we give them space and whatever their decision is, we are always ready to support," he added. Bautista, however, clarified that despite Duterte's earlier filing her certificate of candidacy for mayor, they are still hopeful that the mayor would reconsider her decision. "Never lose hope, we will just fight. Miracle happens in many ways. If God (want) miracles, it will really happen," he added. Bautista cited that if Duterte really wanted to run, it could have been during the time when President Duterte withdrew from running as the country's vice-president. "Knowing Mayor Inday, she has a word of honor. If she really wanted to run she had decided right away," he added. Bautista also vowed to support the candidate to be endorsed by the mayor. On Wednesday night, Mayor Duterte addressed her supporters and told them about the finality of her decision to run for reelection. "I would like to finish my last term as Mayor before I take another position. Many of you are hurt, discouraged, and hopeless but we can still work together for our people, we don't need a position, we don't need a President to help. Let's do helping others in our daily lives," she said in a public post.
