Taiwan shares soar to end above 15,700 points 02/02/2021 05:13 PM CNA photo Feb. 2, 2021 Taipei, Feb. 2 (CNA) Shares in Taiwan extended their momentum from a session earlier on Tuesday, moving sharply higher by more than 300 points to close above the 15,700-point level, dealers said. Market attention focused on the bellwether electronics sector, as investors were encouraged by a strong showing in the tech-heavy Nasdaq index overnight and rushed to pick up integrated circuit stocks, in particular contract chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the dealers said. The weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE), or Taiex, ended up 349.96 points, or 2.27 percent, at 15,760.05, after moving between 15,546.69 and 15,838.15, on turnover of NT$306.73 billion (US$10.96 billion).
