Tasmanian Liberal candidate resigns, charged with weapons offences


Tasmanian Liberal candidate Adam Brooks has been charged with weapons offences and will not take his seat in parliament.
Police allegedly found an illegal handgun and a fake driver's licence during raids at an address on Marine Parade in Redcliffe yesterday.
Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein today confirmed Mr Brooks, who was an endorsed Liberal candidate for the seat of Braddon, would resign.

"Mr Brooks advised me that he is seeking legal advice and he intends to defend himself against these new charges," Mr Gutwein said.
"However, due to his state of health and the need to focus on his own personal circumstances, it is his intention not to take his seat in Parliament and to forward his resignation to the governor today."
