Erika Sanzi and Asra Nomani, both members of Parents Defending Education, have asked the Barrington School District to provide information on a classroom assignment asking students to participate in a public forum. A number of students signed up to testify at a March 31 House education subcommittee hearing on Morgan’s bill. Parents Defending Education contends that schools are pushing a liberal orthodoxy that denies free speech. Three students who said they attended Barrington High School spoke out against the bill. Elijah Short, a junior, said the school’s curriculum “cannot be considered white shaming,” and that the bill “limits what can be taught” on the subject of racism.
