Thane: 'Milk of Compassion' for premature baby whose mom died of Covid | Mumbai News

Minal was 32 weeks pregnant when she died while the special perimortem caesarian section was applied to save the baby.
MUMBAI: The recent birth of a premature baby just seconds before his Covid positive mother had died of a cardiac arrest was nothing short of a stupendous medical feat at Kingsway hospital in Nagpur.
Thereafter, the Thane resident Chetan Vernekar (32) who is the boy's father, realized that the medical marvel was followed by an amazing gift of compassion, as perfect strangers and new mothers reached out to the distressed family to supply fresh breastfed milk for the baby.
Talking to TOI from his Thane residence, Vernekar said: "Me and my family members are filled with immense gratitude to see how several new mothers had contacted us in Nagpur, after they came to know that the premature baby's mother (Minal) had died after delivering him in hospital on April 8. Since the baby is allergic to formula milk, the ladies regularly supplied us with their own breastmilk. It is only because of this humane act that our child survived, and is now discharged from the hospital."
