Putnam Professor of Politics at Princeton University. Beissinger’s area of study is the former Soviet Union, with a focus on social movements, revolutions, nationalism, state-building, and imperialism. In addition to numerous articles and book chapters, Beissinger is author or editor of five books, including most recently (with Stephen Kotkin) Historical Legacies of Communism in Russia and Eastern Europe (Cambridge University Press, 2014). His book Nationalist Mobilization and the Collapse of the Soviet State (Cambridge University Press, 2002) won multiple awards. His latest book The Revolutionary City: Urbanization and the Global Transformation of Rebellion will be published by Princeton University Press in early 2022.
