Kiala Lusaka leaves the High Court in Suva. Picture: IAN CHUTE “OH God,” were the words uttered by Christopher Downes when shown screenshots of his chat with his son-in-law, Kiala Henri Lusaka, in 2019. The conversations took place in the days leading to the alleged murder of his daughter, Jennifer Downes, 44. The exclamation from Mr Downes could be heard as he testified via Skype from his home in Australia. Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Elizabeth Rice had shown the court a screenshot of the Facebook Messenger chat between the witness and the accused, which included a photo from Mr Lusaka of his daughter lying lifeless on the floor with $2 coins over her eyes.
