The student perspective: Why Worcester needs diverse voices on the School Committee Nadia Eshun, Mark Shulten Jr., Rena Nurhussien, Amel Nurhussien, Sadaqat Khan, Sarai Vargas, Akua Asare, Kristine Khuu, Angeliz Maldonado and Joshlyn Jarret Many believe that a silent voice equates to a voice that is non-existent, forgetting that the voices do indeed exist, but have been forced shut. We often hear the phrase, “Worcester is one of the most diverse cities in Massachusetts.” It is always said with pride and a sense of accomplishment. However, we as young people of color question the authenticity of that pride, and our city’s true commitment to diversity, equity and social justice.
