The Rev Peter Willox by the Rev Peter Willox, Vicar, St John’s, Ben Rhydding LAST week, due to changing government guidelines, my wife had to change her plans. She was running a singing retreat in the Lake District and discovered a few days before she was due to go that singers were now not allowed to sing indoors, as had been originally allowed under step 3, except in groups of 6. With 20 participants this caused the need for some flexible thinking and planning. Flexibility in planning is something that we have all had to get used to, but it does not come easily to everyone, and it can be very stressful. Living with the uncertainty of whether what we had hoped for will be realisable or not takes its toll. We have all felt that stress in one way or another over this last year, I am sure. Whether it be holiday (or retreat) plans having to change or more seriously the worries of ongoing financial uncertainty, job insecurity or long-term separation from family and friends – the list goes on - each causes undue strain on our emotional, psychological and physiological wellbeing.
