Friday is the traditional last day for candidate filing for seats in Washington up for a vote this year. Locally there are about 200 small taxing district posts up for election in Whitman County. So far about half of those seats have at least one candidate. Notable seats that still haven’t drawn a candidate include Farmington Mayor and Lamont Mayor. All 5 town council seats up for election this year in Lamont haven’t garnered a candidate yet. Candidate filing runs until 4:00 Friday at the Whitman County Auditor’s Office in Colfax. Positions without a candidate will have a special filing period next week.
