Who voted to leave one breaks it unable to agree amongst themselves about what breaks it looks like so treason may propose is a brags that that Boris Johnson doesn't think is Briggs to and off Boris Johnson proposes a breaks at the 1st of all large frauds that he can't handle but then who knows what discussions they've had and what's been offered in order to get him on board if even those M.P.'s who have been putting forward breaks that can't agree I tell you I genuinely don't have confidence that there is a majority in this country for any specific type of break that and when the government analysis says that breaks that will make our country poorer and it will mean people lose their jobs and there is less money for our n.h.s. If we really don't think that there is a majority for any specific type of brakes that I think it would be ever sponsible to go ahead without at least checking so we've argued for a people's vote I'm going to hold it to you saying if you vote liberal Democrat and get a lift a majority government we will revoke Article 50 and if you don't we will argue so what do you say to your former live version here and you know the vote you can you not same will go back to the people you are unilaterally saying revoke a that is own Democratic from somebody who wishes the last 3 and a half years it never happened there is no difference between the pair of thanks I suspect you want a people's vote that to me is the only way forward recreate recognizing people who are strongly to leave so so we have been leading the fight for a people's vote for 3 and a half years maybe not now you know and even to elevate her to a revote in your community 17 times in Parliament we put down amendments to try to secure a people's vote if Germany Corban and the Labor party had backed that with sincerity then we might be having a people's vote right now instead of a general election. But we are in a general election this is the essence of democracy I'm standing here and telling you what I would do if I was elected as prime minister I would revoke Article 50 and if you vote me into that position I will do what I said I will do and that's the essence of democracy these 2 women in front of us here from both of you he said you made some mistakes when you were in coalition with the Tories so can you confirm whether you would go into a coalition with them again certainly no Boris Johnson this Conservative Party is off with knowledge of. Boris Johnson's been endorsed by told me and I mean my goodness they are they are so far off the charts absolutely not they were going back to 780 Yes thank God so you've admitted that you made some mistakes and I'm a student so we've been let down by the victims before are you talking about. But you also kind of called. Nigel for making a deal but have been make impacts and there's definitely been. Misleading suggestions in that campaign so I don't know what's different now i can we trust you know what you mean misleading suggestions and the company there's been some claims made a there's. Wasn't there and it's Winston in the ne time side issue it suggested that we're just kind of forgot all about the Brits and the Labor Party in that partial and misrepresented of the Lib Dems in it I haven't seen that particular one and it may well be that there is a problem with that I think it should be properly labeled it should be clear what they are explaining a bit of a data geek deal like a bar chart will be for the over the need to see that I'm sorry they need to be right and I wasn't Yeah they do need to be right in the need to be clear what it is representing absolutely point but I mean not all not what you do issue of trust Look we absolutely roll on tuition fees and you know I do apologize that we got that wrong in that we did. What I think we have been doing in the last 3 and a half years is standing really clearly as a pro European prove main party and we've not wavered from the absolutely step and that is what is at the center of manifesto this time so you can see that we are sticking to our principles and what we believe in and do you think just seeing the silence that fell into do you think that the the policy of revoking Article 50 has backfired well and you know it is what we would do if we win a majority right I just think we have to level and be straightforward bike to we are true European party we always have been and if we fight an election on the basis of stopping breaks that people give us a majority don't be surprised if we then start break that but as I say we have led that campaign for a people's vote and we with more liberal Democrat and pays in the next parliament campaign for a people's vote if we're not able to revoke when the orange to. My question is. So if for me. To remain I would like a People's I. Mean the Liberal Democrats seem more interested in just arguing with rather than working collaboratively in collaboration with the parties and politicians so for me I don't see the point where I can actually but why if you rolled out a coalition the Jeremy cotton of course was just standing here just a few minutes ago when they had promised a 2nd referendum they are surely your best hope to remain. Well I mean Jeremy Piven also stood here and sad that he would be neutral in that referendum so I don't think that we and the millions people who want to remain in this country can trust Jeremy Corbyn or breaks it but the other exchange that you have thought was a very powerful exchange was about what happened to the Labor Party under German Corben in terms of anti-Semitism but they are being investigated by the Equality and Human Rights Commission and he said he was happy about that but I think a party leader should be happy about that I think you should be ashamed about that and I just don't think that we can ignore the genuine fear that lots of people feel about German Corben being prime minister so when it comes to working collaboratively Absolutely and what does it what does that mean if you let's just look at what we've done over the last couple of years right we are here it is November we are still members of the European Union. Even the 29th of March we were supposed to leave in the 31st for Tobar and for people that want to leave if that was you then appreciate your can be frustrated by that but as a party that wants to start breaks that you know we have worked collaboratively to make that happen we've worked with people in the Labor Party in the conservative party in the s.n.p. Implied can we and the Greens we have worked when we can we can and we have stopped breaks that twice just imagine if you elect more Liberal Democrat M.P.'s what we will be able to achieve and we'll be able to stop drugs that for good is a farce that has I'm going to go around a few people at once if that's alright by you is the one hand that to. I'm talking about wishing collaboratively with other parties but your policy in the unlikely event that you were elected prime minister with a majority. You oppose even break your school fifties just as divisive as the policies coming out from the kind of hard pressed City is how would you possibly imagine the bring the country together if you were elected and you were very quick 50 Thank You Thank You Thank You The school that people have basically been under remain. I come from a constituency of the valley the base and strongly believe how do what do you what would you how would you bring that community together and the man handed. Jesse I hear you talk about concern for the poll the reason people are poor because of austerity which you supported your deputy leader recently said that he wants the government to run a permanent surplus which is essentially more palatable way of saying permanent austerity why should we trust you not to further cripple our public services and the man that you thank you apologized to students for the student debt debacle we haven't said what you going to do for them so students leave with 50 ground worth of debt pay in interest and the time they start to study when they can't possibly pay back the pain of a 6 percent interest when they look enough to get a job we've created a generation of graduates are in persistent debt to the state it just doesn't hiring true so what are going to do for those people we've created a whole generation in persistent debt thank you thank you so I absolutely recognize that. So many people feel that this division that we have in their country right now is really horrible it's really uncomfortable in this in this room as people here or leave remains so worn and I'm sure we all feel uncomfortable and we kind of crave for a loan for feeling where that isn't there all of it says I don't think there's an easy answer to this. You know in Scotland we've you know we've been living with this now for 8 years because of the run up to the independence referendum and the society is still very divided on those light and so I don't think there's a quick fix but I do think that many of the issues which people are unhappy about that things don't. Things are too tough the economy doesn't work well enough for people I genuinely fear that those are going to be made worse by leaving the European Union there's going to be less money I mean take up the point about austerity you know we hear that this question is saying is that you'll make us terribly worse but on a budget is not much but what my and my point is is that it's leaving the European Union that is going to unleash on Star on our country because we are going to be poorer people are going to lose their jobs there will be less money for our n.h.s. And I'm it will get and it will be worth where is whereas if you remember then we will actually have more money to spend to be able to invest in our communities and in resolving many of the issues that people are unhappy about so you know that's why I'm standing on the platform to say I want things to be better in our country because I recognize that for too many people it has been too hard and just. To the point you make it a maintenance grant sweeping cuts we've said that we want to put those back because we want to invest in those young people we want to make sure that people kind of access to funding for lifelong learning at different points throughout their lives but I'm not going to stand here and promise that we're going to. Abolish the Law of numbers that are getting flu interrupt thrown around by by different parties in this election and you know a lot of the stuff sounds good but can actually be delivered to do you actually in your heart of hearts believe that those sums add up when the I.F.'s says that it's just not credible when you look at the labor manifesto so I'd rather be straightforward and honest with people on a draw and I don't think I think we should pay so much just think the balance is totally saying we need to help these people it's not about not paying anything the Labor Government suggested the needs to be rebalanced so what is that rebalance and I think we need to look at how we invest and support in particular from low incomes going into university to get more people to do that but if we really want to improve life chances the best play. To put that money is in the early years and in schools that how do you get that social ability that's how you give young people opportunities and that's where the priority for our spending is going it's to make sure that we give our schools the money they need I mean at the moment in schools right you've got all teachers being sought you've got some schools not opening all day on a fright you've got schools crowd funding for print sticks and exercise books but if not doesn't tell you that our schools are in dire need of more funding what does Ok let's take a question from all this ever on where abouts. You are. I'm sure that the Liberal Democrats feel as if you must feel like you're in a between a rock and a hard place at the moment. But. I'm just wondering what your question would your conscience be clear if the if as a result of the. Dividing the remain vote between labor semi remain I know but we've got that we've got that. Next referendum with them. If you divide the remainder with your conscience be clear if the Tories manage to get a majority as a result of that thanks. If you vote for Boris Johnson he will use that vote to put through his heart breaks that deal he vote for Jeremy Corbin he will use that vote to negotiate a labor breaks that deal in this election my conscience would not be clear if only I didn't make sure that right across the country people have the chance to vote for remain a party for a candidate that wants to stop break that because this might be the last chance that we have to stop it over there also question thank you very much I might put up much you know I am a remainer as well but I don't want this country not to go out of I don't I would rather that we went out of Europe then we we didn't have another referendum we need to have another referendum because we need to heal those those wounds that have been caused by the initial referendum which was so poorly worked out and which which has been incredibly divisive for the country for everyone I think I can I just say that you know obviously if there's more liberal Democrats in that next parliament then that gives us more power to deliver but we also need to make sure to get there that we still. Getting a majority and it's liberal Democrats who were able to win seats from Boris Johnson in the Tories there's lots of places in the country where that can happen from what we're seeing is not the case that Jeremy Corbyn the Labor Party are going to be able to win seats from the conservatives and that's why voting Liberal Democrat is the way to deprive Boris Johnson a majority of men in the right time. Ok Do they see me trying to defend you record on your vote and then the of the hundreds say how you know you're against these horrible Tory cuts and I really really talk Christie and you've got one difficult question and you immediately tried to turn it around trying to some it is I'm just me Colbert has been fighting Semitism and racism in all its forms since before you were born and you got some Bresnik thank you thank God I recognize that you genuinely believe that but let me say from the people that I've spoken to in the Labor Party when I speak to listen to Birger who join the Liberal Democrats but it's because Louise Ellman he felt she had to leave the Labor Party I'm going to speak to people right across the country they do not feel they do not feel that Jeremy Corbyn is fighting racism and anti semitism in the Labor Party they know what that feels like and I'm going to listen to them and trust them on this issue let's take a question from I believe you may thank. The other. Having voted a number of times for fracking how can we be sure of your commitment to halting climate change well I'm against fracking So why do you go against a ban on it in 2015 so when we're in the coalition government my liberal Democrat colleague Ed Davey was the energy secretary and he put in place very stringent regulation. Of course it didn't. But as a party things have moved on that was 4 years ago we are against fracking we want a ban on fracking because the climate emergency is such that we shouldn't be starting new fossil fuel industries we need to be changing the way that we produce our energy the way that we heat our homes we need to be getting the carbon eye of our every day life rapidly and that means no new fossil fuel industries such as trucking so you won't change your mind Dan Rather than you voted against it a ban on it in 2015 are saying you do think it should be banned you're not going to change your mind again I'm very clear we would ban fracking. This is like all the other policies that you have their labor policies and you are pumping going on the back of what Labor are doing you say that your pretty do progressive policies policies like child care and Sure Start and all that kind of stuff but you voted against it you voted against it in the when you're in Tory government you particularly you yourself have voted against progressive politics and every time you are asked about something you attack Labor and you pretend to be somebody who is. A kin to labor in some of those progressive policies when I don't believe it I don't think that you have progressive policies I don't think that you have left wing policies I think that actually the Liberal Democrats are right wing party and they do not get my vote thank you thank you and if you support the Labor party and if you want socialism and that's your viewpoint then we're not a socialist party I'm a liberal and it's not some I'm next to the Labor Party a Liberal Party we want an open and a fair and inclusive country we're an internationalist party that's why we want to remain in the European Union and start break that because we believe that you you get further you achieve more if you work with your closest neighbors that's what we're standing for that's what our values are and sometimes we do agree with the Labor Party but we're not the Labor party we're a different party and that's why we're standing separately we stand on our own 2 feet in this election and we're in right about there. Hi Ira I just kind of want to follow up about the whole climate change because recently on this week you said you would be Ok with using nuclear weapons can you please clarify why you think that would be Ok And how is that going to protect the planet thank you so. We live in a really dangerous world I think it feels like it feels like it is a much more unfair world than even a few years ago when you have President Trump in the White House with his of all the tile decisions in geopolitics I don't think this is the time to get rid of our nuclear terror deterrent I think that we need to keep our new clear to terrorists and that it keeps us safe I do think the best use for nuclear weapons is to use them to negotiate away other nuclear weapons and the u.k. Should be playing a leading role in all of those international diplomatic discussions about how do we create a world without nuclear weapons because that is what we want to see but we are not there and while we are not there that I do not want us to scrap or to tear it down in the bush and you seem to be the party of missed opportunity when you were in coalition with the conservatives you failed to stop doing a number of things you can reverse when the conservatives were heavily in minority government just recently you failed to. Put your pride to one side team up we've called. Your friends and bring down the government and then bring forward reffer and we will have service in action because if we didn't. I don't I got to take a 2nd but praise the great just a couple of weeks before this election was called the Liberal Democrats tabled again an amendment to have a people's vote on the Labor Party refused to back it we have been consistent in doing that and we did achieve more money for per peoples we achieved same sex marriage we cut taxes for people on low pay we introduced share praying to leave in gender pay gap reporting you know there was a whole host of things that we did achieve when we were in government and I always want to do more and that's why I'm ambitious for our future because our country can have a brighter future and it starts with remaining in the European Union our time is up the famous person thank you very much indeed would you please thank him thank you this is a question and party leader special here 5 lives to live down leader to Swinson who admitted they go wrong on tuition fees wrong on a sturdy but she insisted that our plan to revoke Article $50.00 is level and straight forward earlier Jeremy carbon and revealed that he would adopt a neutral position during a 2nd the referendum campaign a
