Well different times 2 you don't get that variety with a photo. Thank you Julie really made me smile a or triple 3 leads at the start and Jill says morning Andrew I would be lost without my wall clock and I was use a paper calendar can't do with what fastener around with the phone Thank you Julian gentleman sextape want triple 3 with the word Leeds at the start of the message. 2 2 b.b.c. Radio late Good morning 10 past 7. Well hello and welcome to this weekend secret spaces the weather could have been kinder and all of us stay because we us Hardcastle crags for well a special poetry trail a sort of contemplative walk and the person behind the poems is here this is their principal some from the diversity but as for the light of Rai Andrea Nice to meet you I love Lee idea and with the rain falling it actually I thought yeah I could be that horrible it's actually really atmospheric and calm and it's going to be beautiful Yeah I think you're going to enjoy the trail a lot and we've got I think half of West Yorkshire dogs joining us as well Graeme blow is here from the National Trust as well Hello Grant I wonder if the idea well that what we wanted to do is allow people some time and some space within the woodland to think about their place within Nature really and the partnership with the university has failed and and has allowed us to open up some space for some time for people to just be in woodland just set the say with hot Castle Crags I don't mean any comforting it's one of my favorite places but for the uninitiated. It's a deep sided wooded valley set in the south pen and which is owned and run by the National Trust and we have various different ways in which you can walk through the woodland we've got a mill which is at the heart of it which is where the visitor. Cafe and toilet facilities are but there are many ways that you can try to walk through the woods looking at. The different sort of natural elements and what a nice idea that is there we are get some one mile but we're not going to take the direct route Debro way so let's walk towards where the 1st poem is you have to hunt them out or all the obvious know it's going to be obvious there's a map here at the beginning of the trail and then that shows you where it is and just a little way up the trail you'll see the 1st poem secret spaces here on b.b.c. Radio Leeds where Hardcastle crags the wonderful National Trust property just above had been bridge poet Deborah Templeton from the University of hottest failed me Andrew Edwards and Graeme bloke from The National Trust holding the umbrella Russia sending a very well Grant thank you so what's your background are you a poet then I'm a freelance writer and most of the time and I also run the mindfulness and performance research project at University of Huddersfield that's actually based in the drama department for me to even though we've only war just a few steps up till it's well probably I'm going to go back breathless but what you'll find is that the cars are behind the school group who was there when Iraq some how it's different already Yeah absolutely and because we're going to go off the main track here then that sense is deep in the even more just part of what Grant wanted with this particular trail. So we're approaching the 1st poem and it's position by a small tree stump you'll see and that's quite important to the 1st poem in fact this is a managed wood learned and so we sometimes do see cut trees and they're responding to that was part of the initial impulse for the poetry it's one of the themes what we'd like to do is obviously respond and take people off the main track and allow them to sort of meander through the woodland and where they have a space to make these poems. Make sent along the track one thus gone space making. The sudden air still saps. A bright steaming pause a path to emptiness. I found that really moving was standing in the woodland as rain drops beaded on the silver plaque on which the poem is grand and was very special wasn't Yeah I really think there is something quite extraordinary about reading something like that in the woodland it's not a map it's not directions it's just an invitation to think listen and be warm verse gone special perjury trial a woodland war commemorative comp templates of war mindfulness here are Castle Crags I'm Andrew Edwards more in part 2 next to b.b.c. Radio Leeds Good morning I am Andrew it is invitation only secret spaces and that one came from the National Trust of Hardcastle crags and a really nice place to go so continue the journey and I thought if you'd want to get away from all the nonsense in this room up to Christmas I really recommend that so be turn up at the main carpark at the bottom and as if you're walking up to Gibson mill that's where the whole of the trial starts absolutely free even better 715 b.b.c. Radio Leeds. Dot co dot u.k. So part 2 of this weekend secret space adventure Well high above had to bridge the beautiful Hardcastle crags on a beautiful if rather wet summer day I went poetry trail so that come in just a moment's time but 1st look. You Christmas jumper have a do have a look at us your well mine is the next weekend is my last May get a full Christmas so here next week well I have coordinated wishes about a proper memo shouldn't but produce a ready it's easy his last weekend before Christmas yes and he's wearing he's gonna laugh when he can on a blue Christmas tree. You know I let him off because he smiled it looks it looks Martin it is look small to describe yours and say mine is Gras and it actually has lots of little dogs and the dogs are wearing prison system is really it's a look and it's not one of those really horrible kits. That yet to come I'm building up to see why mine is not a thing of beauty but I may just if you're very good treat you to it next weekend but Abby isn't here so they were out last night and that's my excuse an early and has you know early as well so let's talk weather producer Jules really made us smile this morning as he started off with the news a 6 by saying it's grim we have weather Yes Well there you go focused on I'll see you later. Yeah it is quite overcast isn't it this morning we've still some really heavy showers and even a light in that continuing as well through the morning but they will gradually ease into the afternoon I think it will be largely dry with plenty of sunshine so just bear with it and it will get better but it is going to be chilly and windy today highs of just 5 Celsius so I think you heading out even night tonight a dry start but outbreaks of rain will develop they'll then start to become more showers in the early hours of tomorrow morning but could still be quite heavy there's a potential for something a little bit more wintry I think a higher ground even at lows if warranty is going to start something a little more yes what does that potentially make of sleety maybe snow we make save the high ground but you know nothing that will settle that level are they wouldn't forgive me if I didn't clarify what something wintry means carry on I mean and then tomorrow that early morning where you know Clegg will see again a gradual improvement I think into the afternoon draw a bright to some decent spells of sunshine maybe a bit more cloud around tomorrow and then I think we'll see some showers moving into the evening but all in all it's not shaping up to be about weekend that there will be some good slices of dry next week for you reckon Well a dry start mundane cheese day and not looking about a tall plenty of sunshine quite windy human day but the winds are going to graduate used to a major week on which there it is and it's him once again I'm afraid well there we are it is December that is the truth there's no final. You came with me before Christmas so she's wearing the Christmas jumper I will spare you mine till next weekend but we will take the weekend weather selfie in just a moment's time previously radio have very nice phone that will thank you have a rich instead breakfast show oh my name's Richard stead and I'm stood in the middle of a failed in the middle of the triangle because I'm about to sing and nobody wants to go you do want to. Radio aids. Secret space in Part 200. 23 minutes past 7 I'm Andrew good morning. Secret spaces here on b.b.c. Radio lead time around where Hardcastle crags above helped him bridge are most beautiful parts of West Yorkshire Ground 0 is from the National Trust here so this woodland we're just at the tail end of the Laureus autumn colors ground we've got we've got a lot of evergreen trees be trees here which are not native to this part of the world they were planted some 200 years ago to create an impressive journey through the woodland up to the the state of Lot Savile now we have to manage this space because obviously all of the trees are coming to the end of the lives and some plantations within the same compartments within the woodland kind of a monoculture which isn't good for a natural healthy woodland So we're on a woodland walk a contemplative walk a poacher trail call it what you will and this is our other guest today Deborah Templeton from the University of Huddersfield the lovely ideas it's a contemplative trail it's using small poems to invite people into a kind of a deeper encounter with the woodland and the poems subtly I hope kind of reference various things so they are making reference to the fact that this is a managed woodland but they're very much speaking to how people might want to engage with the trees and with the experience of being on this beautiful path as a way of really shifting into a deeper slower more relaxed mode of being in the woods and there's a real idea at the moment this sort of living life at a slower pace mindfulness that we touched on earlier it's very much of now isn't it it totally is and that's because we know have a lot of neuroscience behind mindfulness. You know the Buddhist monks told us for years that it was something really important and able to shift how we are in the world in our experience of happiness and now we have the science that supports that so we do know that this kind of experience if you can just learn to access it has a really profound effect on well being spotted I know what I'm doing now a little silver plaque glinting underneath the tree there on a wooden stake is that 2nd poem that's number 2 you know it's got towards So the 2nd poem is really beginning to invite the reader to to slow them and to perhaps consider wandering a little bit meandering a little bit off the path dream into quieter ways Dally take all day lose the path and find the softened. While in the stillness behind the leaf shimmer. I was distracted from the sounds the sights the smells of this woodland in the rain over our heads Graeme play out because. Beautiful absolutely I mean do well is the is the middle word of that poem and. Thinking about what you can see and just being here. Is a different a different experience to just tramping through it pause and take this place in a bit because it's stunning Yeah it's the opportunity in the invitation to experience it at the level at which you find it well you know what I think other people should try this to see and hear and read all a poem so we've given you the 1st 2 I think I'm going to continue the war would you come with me she would do the rest of the trial let's do it Deborah thank you very much indeed Deborah Templeton from the University of Hollister but not what I'm thinking in that lovely x. And know Northern Ireland and their grandma you must be chuffed from an initial idea that this is worked out so well Graham Yeah we couldn't be happier to have this trail and highlight that the beauty the crags until the next time for me Andrew Edwards secret spaces good buy.
