I hope you have a lovely weekend so far everyone not too cold. I'm nice and warm I come to you fresh from sipping hot chocolate from the glittering Christmas ready center of Leeds and having finally caught up with my sleep off of what's been an interesting week let's say. Yes The election is over we have a new prime minister rather the same prime minister with a new 5 year mandate. While I along with my b.b.c. Radio Leeds colleagues was covering the election and have been some interesting developments on that when it comes to the South Asian presence in Parliament via West Yorkshire and. Well we'll have an election round up in a bit so I would also be chatting about the ethnic minority presence on a national level. Politics is politics but wait for this I will be hearing from the want to only a shower gonna little bit later. A special interview with am I'm going to give you more details in a bit. And of course lots of fantastic Bollywood and music coming your way today here on connections with me. If you want to you can take part in the show very simple to do Saif textus and write one true. Well straight and start your message with the word leads takes a challenge to a standard message Trade see our previous scene a taste at the b.b.c. You can slash local radio previously b.b.c. Radio late. So sit back relax and To. The. Great Chain there Jamaica. Here on connections on b.b.c. Radio Leeds hope you're all doing well please stay tuned I'm on I'm going to be with you through till 8 o'clock today next couple of hours loads of brilliant music coming your way but let's talk politics 1st you can't have failed to notice there's been an election on after weeks of campaigning the conservatives want to come comprehensive victory it's not thing doesn't have seats from Labor across the country and for West Yorkshire seats as well Jews Bre key flea Cone Valley and Wakefield across West Yorkshire the Tories actually held 5 seats while Labor successfully defended 13 but Wakefield was the biggest scalp of the night which Labor lost after 87 years old and on to that seat while Wakefield has a say 87 years had been in control of Labor since 1932 but the man who snatched it was Tory Imran Emmott Khan he defeated the incumbent m.p. Mary Korea craved by 3358 votes and he also becomes by my reckoning the 1st Yorkshire conservative m.p. Of a South Asian background according to his online profile Edward Kahn was born in Wakefield he's of Pakistani ancestry born to a Pakistani father and an English mother well obviously we had reporters out and about covering the election and our political reporter Kevin Larkin actually spoke to Mr Ahmed Khan after his victory it's the same round how does it feel to be 1st conservative m.p. Since 1000 votes when you wake up it's a wonderful feeling to be terribly Hundley there's a great deal of responsibility the people of Wakefield are put in me and I dedicate myself and every part of my purpose to fulfilling the trust they put in me why do you think you won tonight. I think the people Wakefield for too long. Well taken for granted I promise to listen and to give voice to them I promise to serve them by my platform was all very my own very simple understanding of representative democracy that I believe if they put their trust in me to represent the people of Wakefield I think that's why. And what's your 1st priority Whitefield my 1st priority is to keep trust with the people Wakefield they have wanted me and they want the country and they said in trying to 16 subsequently to get but sit down the 1st thing I must do is to keep faith with the people of Wakefield and the people united kingdom and get back sit down get Reg's it on the motto that we kept hearing again the again didn't we joining the election campaign now is Imran Amad gone and I believe he is the 1st Tory m.p. And he is now the new Wakefield m.p. Elsewhere in the county in West Yorkshire there was good news for Bradford's 2 existing South Asian Labor M.P.'s. On a moron who say who retained their seats in Bradford West and Bradford East respectively Now my colleague Ahmed spoke to not show who as I say maintained her seat for Bradford West and he began by asking her how she felt about a victory it is very very humbling and it's a huge honor say yeah a skirt locally say they've a very germy coat when he decided to step away from the leadership of the party in woman taking the party the next general election what you feel about them but I think Jeremy has taken at decision he will take me lightly and I think it's the right solution to take and what can we expect from you for next 5 years holding this government to account trying to give addiction the food banks locally trying to get investment into our local n.h.s. Into our police into our schools at 45 to 45 local schools have had cuts in my constituency and I predicted further cuts and I want to reverse that trying to be working really hard to try to hold government to account and respect for best actor and in Iran Hussein also held on to his Bradford East. Seats with a huge majority so I Congratulations all of them and we will have to see what's they come up with policy wise we will definitely hold them to account for you let's have some more music is coming your way a bit like the more music this is called enjoy. a wonderful gorgeous track Mishra. The voice is and it's from the film and they'll have a great sci fi vibe to that one enjoyed it now we just chatted about the political victories across West Yorkshire South Asian heritage M.P.'s in our region we had from these retained seats in Bradford West and also the new conservative m.p. For Wakefield Iran and with Khan who's unseated the labor m.p. The sitting Labor m.p. Is the labor m.p. . 87 in the city well also victorious was Imran Hussain now he is the Bradford East m.p. And he retains his seat with a huge majority as well he spoke to John Ahmed reports on and this is what you have to say yeah of course I mean it's mixed reaction you know of course I'm delighted that the people of Iraq for Least of all the trust and confidence in me again but of course I'm very disappointed with the emerging national picture which is an emerging national picture and I've obviously not seen the new of the last few hours so I don't know what the full picture is where it's highly likely now that we will have a conservative majority go naturally are very disappointed. I mean it's a disappoint you that Mississippi How disappointed are you I mean of course very disappointed you know of course we are you know I mean I believe you know we've a personal decision for Jeremy you know I think again this search over the coming. Hours and you know with a day or 2 there will be obviously discussions that are not I've not seen that yes I'm not going to. Comment on that but like I said there is room for reflection now one space for people to have conversations and funny of a comic spec you from even the next 5 years you said you were in this is when you say I will go visit Peter lever come expect from him and I say the m.p. For the next 5 years what can I will continue to fight because now I think what we've had a swift had a general election looks like a Tony he will join our team Tony government I represent the constituency reference to percent of the children live in poverty I represent a constituency where schools are underfunded we have a hospital lies on the 4 lead we have people the number of people are homeless is increasing we have more working families and for votes No actually I was going was going to address star in accordance with the wild pledges we've been seeing and I think my job now is to hold our government to account and scrutinize them and to speak for the people I represent. Iran Hussain the newly reelected m.p. For Bradford East we now have 3 M.P.'s of South Asian heritage in West Yorkshire in Milan Amad Hussain the conservative you elected in Wakefield and of course national on him on his own in Bradford West and brought food east so we will be scrutinizing that with keen interest over the coming months it is 21 minutes past 6 here on b.b.c. Radio Leeds I might be wavy through till 8 o'clock tonight loads of great music coming your way and get this we're going to see the one and only Shah Rukh Khan a little bit later can you believe it a very special interview to the with the one and only. Coming up about quarter to 7 you do not want to miss that the man is fabulous and he will here in the interview ever humble an Ev a brilliant so do not miss that for now let's have a little bit of a good sing and sauna this is the top. Just saying so and. Bedi hit on b.b.c. Radio Days 25 minutes past 6 loads of brilliant music coming your way and let's have a listen to this this is not good thing I'm mumsy stranger 2 legends from very different times really I mean recent times how about collaborating fantastically enjoy. 6 going. On. That. Book baton. Rouge. When that was. Done. Lovely stuff that's a bit of a nut. Here on b.b.c. Radio Leeds this is connections. I'm going to be with you through till 8 o'clock today loads of lovely music come anywhere and we are going to hearing from the one and. Shah Rukh Khan very soon but of course you can't get away from the politics this last few weeks the campaigning has been absolutely relentless we do now have a new government it's all a been about Bragg's it let's get Briggs it done has been the mantra really from the conservatives they are now the party in power well it's the conservatives have today tonight confirmed that the government plans to bring its Bragg's it withdrawal Dale back to the Commons before Christmas which isn't very far away labor on the other hand is preparing itself for 5 years of opposition Well one aspect of a new house will be an overall increase in the number of black and Asian M.P.'s our reporter NASA has been having a look at. Polls suggesting that there will be a conservative majority when all the votes are counted after this election of December 29th the conservatives on 368 seats on Labor way down on a 191 Friday the 13th on historic day in so many ways one of the 1st voices to react to the landslide win for the. Conservatives on b.b.c. T.v. Was the home secretary pretty Patel We want to get Brett sit down you've heard the prime minister say this get it done before Christmas introduce the legislation and get moving and powerless and then of course speaking about the priorities n.h.s. Education law and order police officers something obviously that I'm working on points based immigration system the conservative win was based around a huge number of voters switching from labor like this from the Midlands. According to the. People to vote for consulting a very good. Tory this time is very good Shane you know best from each so I'm really happy. You want to do it the Brits. Are all off now so don't think this retained his seat. And says the Labor Party has to do some serious soul searching what we need to do is to. Have an overview of the entire thing and to ensure that we know we can to piece together various policies that we can put forward in a solid run a 1st go at the next general election. We also need to be a strong opposition to the debate as shifted to who replaces Jeremy Corbyn So could it be Lisa Nandy the we get m.p. And daughter of an Indian academic I'm seriously thinking about it I've never said that before because in all honesty I'd never have met before but this situation is now incredibly stark constituents who woke up on Friday morning with no sense of hope about what the future is going to bring it is without doubt the most diverse Parliament ever $65.00 elected M.P.'s are from an ethnic minority background that is up from $52.00 last time as large parts of the country turned from red to blue here's Professor Armand menand from King's College London it's just a real sort of seismic. Speaks to the fact that the sort of political map of the u.k. Is big redrawn and the bases of support for each of the 2 big parties are being redefined and that's really a profound moment I think even if it secure a majority of just what we would have left the European Union at the end of January now there's absolutely no doubt about it by the start of February we will no longer be a member state of the European Union so the election over new promise to Boris Johnson is under huge pressure to deliver in the next 5 years all he too may face the raf off the. Thanks to all reports on honey for that report interesting times as they say coming up on our weekend I get a pre Christmas break wait and see. The gorgeous voices of good comes out the maiden Sinan Solomonic this is. The minute they came in. With. You have that. Full of. Pain let me. Oh oh oh oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. The books . This is connections Your see round up delicious the round up of music and chats and from South Asian communities across West Yorkshire I'm going to be with the brutal 8 o'clock today in the 2nd hour of the show coming up by the way we're going to be talking about a new soup kitchen type initiative which is being launched by members of the Muslim community in Leeds and it's doing some fantastic work it's actually been launched today just in time of course for Christmas so loads of festive goodwill spreading out from West Yorkshire from all faith communities and people from all backgrounds which is very lovely to hear so we'll have we'll be talking to some of the people involved in that after 7 o'clock today and of course. Were to round up with our good friend and he's going to be here my correspondent my guru of all things musical and drama and he will be joining us at about half past 7 today and talking of arts and drama and film and all things wonderfully Bollywood Well Shah Rukh Khan has been talking to the b.b.c. Yes he's been talking to talking movies Toma Brooke about his accomplishments his recent career misfires and his legacy and it is a big legacy is it not also about what he wanted his legacy to be for future generations the one and only s r k said he wanted to pass on a culture of immense hard work with a lot of humor and without trying to feel that she worked hard now he's well known as an e. For his fantastic work ethic well in the interview he did say he he wants to wear success like a t. Shirt and not like a tuxedo and that's his message to up and coming future I want to be as well let's have a listen to the. Road to the biggest good listen oh really. I mean all right I just simply love him I'll pick a legend in the room. I can't explain this is because this is the only major mission right not what was done by him. And it had a really big round of applause a shot of a was there one role that you felt really define you as an actor I was taught when I joined the film industry when I met people here who looked at me and said you know the greatest as if you have as an actor has that you are. And I can put you in any role that's not true. He didn't know better at that time but. There's no accounting for taste I didn't think of myself as someone who could be a typical Hindi movie star so I somehow got into you and with that you know I should play some bad guys and maybe then I'll be accepted. You could be moving and successful with your career but in recent times a couple of your films haven't really done so well why do you think that is effort goodness happiness doesn't a good film make you have to tell a good story I think we just made bad films it's as simple as that I'm the employer of the audience and if I can make my boss happy I'd be fired from the job so the couple of times last 2 years I've been fired from the job. They want to give me a chance again I think I'll come back. I'll get my boss on my back now I'm really really wanting to work as actions but I don't think I've really made it to the alpha male category his I my 6 pack as for you nothing that makes people look feel that I'm the macho guys so that's one thing you know and before you speak very little walk into a room shoot before you say hi. And then you know ride a motorbike high speed hair flying and the glasses and chew gum What do you want your legacy to be in terms of what you pass on to younger generations if I can pass on the culture of immense hard work with a lot of humor if you can wear your success like I always say like a t. Shirt not like a tuxedo that you worked out you enjoyed yourself give a few good laughs and if it makes you a star so be it wear it on your sleeve wear it like a piece shirt if it doesn't make you a star at least you tried and you worked out enjoy yourself let me ask you I heard that you don't think you're a particularly good dancer is that right I'm such an income pope I have 45 left feet I'm really pathetic Of course they save me the choreographer's but I think there's a little that I was not in the way I'm doing that must come out come on time no no no no no no no no these steps any Tom Dick and Harry can I. Fantastic talking movies with brick one and I really sure we can ever humble ever fantastic and the b.b.c. . To terms with the makes sense I think when you can watch that full programme on b.b.c.
