You know I rarely rarely like to chew you know when you consider the source of like a source of sunrise and holding back the yes and stars and songs like that fairground even you know and you think well you just think that that was over it's time and it's not going to release anything else and then he comes out with a song like that simply red come out with the sunlight How cool is that truck I would definitely go out and buy the player you know what ladies and gents it's been great this evening you know we've been talking and says strawberries. Conley and d.c. Radio measures such. Ladies and gents It is 12 minutes past they you are listening to me call sitting in for Jim ain't Fos the taking you until 9 o'clock now some of you may know cars are spoken about also before my mom's got this little dog little positive teria Tilly man's and I was saying to me a friend just recently I said you know I think in the corner we're tele and he wants to meet you know or call a many corners are you going to tell him what it's like because. Cos she's been there she's been a labor of love to train she rarely has but usually when the front case is left open chill run out into the into the road and everything I tell you what this is no where there's a lie one time she ran out and chased a u.p.s. Fan off the street and I was running behind and nobody helped me because they were too busy laughing at the size of May run after the dog run and after you yes and as soon as the gates open she is gone but yes that I I left the gates open by mistake . From case opened by mistake when to see him on sale she was the underdog ran out I just noticed the case over as I know now and you know she stopped literally on a penny 10 drowned and came back to me and I classed as a corner with the dog I had no treats on me whatsoever it's a bribe and you know what a made absolutely great picture and about pictures in the studio now a new photography group in the north of. Veiling the new project called exposed which is from an ongoing project with rather the residents of club more it's a collaboration between Emma case who is behind the red Liverpool f.c. Project and Catherine Monaghan who as a filmmaker where with asylum link Mary side as well as other projects and they both join me now welcome welcome Catherine. So tell us a little bit you don't want to put the headphones on. Your. Feelings. Now so tell us about Xpose with the idea confront is a collaboration as and yeah so we've been working with the great now for nearly 6 months I think so it's a partnership with open I gallery and. Lindsay one of the members of the great approached my club more which is the community center and asked if they could have sort of a photography group and so they approached open eye and they approached us then and so we started working with the grape it was all a bit we didn't really know what we were doing. With your time frame between all at once so we would meet with them every Wednesday afternoon and we don't you meet them for 2 hours so it's a really short period of time so the 1st couple of months was just like getting to know. Day. And then we would start teaching them bits about photography we would start bringing photography books in talking about composition and just techniques things like Yeah it was it was really nice and just getting to know each other and then lots of cups of tea. Chatting. With lots of yeah and then open I said would you put kind of a work in progress exhibition together for kind of December and so this is what this is and this is your background as well as. It is yeah both of us really but we've never necessarily worked in this way before with the group so it's kind of new and also you can't plan it how is the group responded to I think very positively actually which is so nice because it's always a bit nerve wracking not thinking Is this actually working is it meaningful to them like are they getting out what they want from the group and I feel like we've had some really positive feedback like I think they're always trying to make us know how important it is to learn which is really nice like the like always telling our . Boss I suppose I try and so like so positive things like We love it we want to do it more and it's really nice to know that that's how they give us an example of the kind of work that thrown out at the moment so when we 1st started because we didn't because it ability level was really different so some people are really interested and have maybe like a day s.l.r. Camera some of them just had like an i Pad And so we gave them disposable cameras so really kind of cheap 7 or you know in ones Wow And just said show just ones that you get in the soup Yeah yeah I just said Go and show us your life or your week and so when we got the chemist back we didn't have any expectation but because we've been talking to them about composition and you know framing a photograph and maybe just maybe behind a photograph yet they more than just a sunset like there's more to it. And so they ended up bringing the cameras back and when we got them developed we were just like he's really you know. And so they're going to be quite a big part of the exhibition and then we were trying to decide on a name when we for for the like the title and Lindsay I think we're all having a cup of tea and Lindsay just sort of tried to get something of a back and then just went ordinary maybe like exposed and we all just looked and when you are kidding may give just done it in like a 2nd and then we just did a big brainstorm to me about how what that means to different people because this is very vague and we didn't want it to be too specific because there are different needs within the people in the group as well like some of them are more focussed on the technical photography side of things whereas others are very much about the community and how they want to share their stories with others and try and use photography to encourage people to get to know each of them all and get more involved in the community and the importance of the community so it was nice to be able to let them explore that in different ways and so we had this this brainstorm to source they will how can we explore this and they really have done that like they've looked at so many different things and it's really nice to see that unfold a study is in the exhibition now you say that the residents are all different levels and stuff and he began as I mean come the 2 of you cope with the amounts of source of residence that a commentary on how do you go. And if we can as where you thought I'm going to have to take them step by step all the way but we had that lady that never came back it was not even of you know like she was actually aimed at like the older generation 60 plus so that we do have a few memorandum younger members there which is nice because it brings a different dynamic to the process and to the levels it's great because a sounds almost like he charting the chronology of your community yeah yeah yeah definitely and I think just in the group they've kind of. Given Us experiences Well I think both of us walking into this kind of scared to be able to to make sure that we were giving the right to the grave but also we've come out of it they've given us so much and that's why I like about this exhibition and the idea of exposes that I think people don't appreciate maybe that you can learn so much from other people and their stories and how these are just people living in the area that people pass by and have no idea how much they're helping that Lindsay's she's to give her all and have time to helping others and it's so nice to learn that from them like I'm inspired by them and seeing these photos you can see little bits of their lives and realize that there's actually so much she can you can take from just taking the time to get to know that that's lovely You spoke about the emotional impact on yourselves what about the emotional impact on the residents. It's funny because the other week I went for a cup of tea with Jane before the session and you know this is one of the members and so she's just like sat me down in Africa. And. Other biscuits are regular forgotten from folks like that and she just said Emma I'm watching everything and looking at everything differently so that even when I'm watching the telly like I'll see a scene and I'll be like I know that they're trying to tell me other things by the way I shot the lie and so I go actually really emotional because she said I would never even thought about that before and so they're just it's like it's just opened up. A lovely she said once and she like fired by all it was really nice because she didn't really come along with any intentions I think. I think yeah if it said I'll come along like it was fun and she came not really expecting to get that involved and then her husband was quite into photography I think and she said that for years he tried to like show. You know other and she just didn't get like passion but through the group I think it's been really nice to see how she's developed her own style and. It's really a right to work sounds like because you know I was opened up the road recently I went to a motorcycle shop within the when the there are all these photographs from the 2nd World War Of all these people of motorbikes from from that era all in uniform all in uniform like home uniform from different countries and a set piece of the guy who runs the shop how how did you get all of these photographs and he said you know what he said these these older soldiers the common and they say my family and so interested. You can have those photographs and it sounds like what you guys are doing is actually making the emotional impact and why that's why the community family is and also it's really important we did one session where we just all got to share some think about each other so we got to talk yeah just talking and listening to somebody and giving somebody that chant phone time to chat and it's just maybe we don't get the chance because everybody's busy everybody so really busy Catherine the 2 of you have got in the virtual rows How do you actually Mario in the virtual roles so that you can. I don't. Like a lot going on and people want different needs and have different questions it's good to have like. Respond to things and you know. Them. 6. 6. 6. 6 You can. Say. It's you know what ladies and gents I have gotta hand it to our Chrissy on Jade because they have chosen some Stallman's songs but save and supply your way so oh my gosh I don't want tonight to end my just because the robot said and then for all in the Met them it later on. I might just say if we can go on till 12 no that's not going to happen some storm and songs also Vlado for you in that we've already played as well and talking about storm and things I am joined in the studio by our case on Catherine Monaghan we've been talking about their photography project Xposed include more bringing communities and residents together guys thanks so much for part one and really appreciate Now we spoke about so much within my fair segments can you let me know sort of what's happening in hands of Netware. With other agencies or. By 3 month relay Yes I get freelance photographers and say you might have one project that lie. Asked maybe 6 months or you might have a project there is a couple of weeks sometimes you end up doing lots of different things like I sometimes shoot a wedding or to. Have a very involved shop. The best. Use is a really good thing to take. From color everything you see are Instagram. Yes it's a real mixed bag usually And so you're just a freelancer so sometimes the work as well isn't in the same city so you might travel and stuff now Emma you mentioned the right project there lead on just during the break you want to give us like a quick overview of what that's about so yeah it's a community archive project and I'm collecting photo I say fans for a taste of Liverpool Football Club so if you've got photos up in your attic. From the seventy's or eighty's follow in the red and then I'm scanning them and turning them into a digital archive and also there's an exhibition on at the moment at. And failed which is disposable cameras again but I got 9 fans to go over to Madrid and take photos for the Champions League final So there's an exhibition there the one star when it's on now and right down and see it now and so there's a website read put traits dot com. And there's lots more in the pipeline but yeah there's not enough time now to residents and club more that you've got to use the supposable cameras how they develop England in their skill set and source of them fast or is that a form and to help them invest in more source of sophisticated equipment we've we've done quite a few sessions on sort of the technical aspects of photography which was quite full on because I just like to. Answer in the security it's like it's cool. Fusing for ourselves like yeah we have to practice to sort of get your head around it all and it's not mathematical and I think for some of them it can be quite daunting so it's about taking it like a good pace but they would get in it get it and it's about keeping up Asbos as well and in the future but yes this definitely a style that we've seen come through with these disposables which is really nice because you think they're just going to like seeing that earlier photos a lot of them are just sort of. Not really thought about whereas in these ones you can see a real sense of purpose in the photo and the framing and the subject and the lighting and it's really nice nicely that they can they can do that and with the disposables there's no barrier. Actually matter if you don't know the technical aspect it's literally about just going out and having fun and if you see something that you really want to take a photo of you go for it so it's actually you know a little little 6 year old you could give it to a 60 year old yeah it really really doesn't matter and they'll be the same image quality as well so there's a nice light consistency that it's not like if you have a really good camera and they have a person just has a phone camera there's no sort of discrimination I suppose like everyone's got the same quality camera it's nice you can't really see any background there there's just they're all the same and we sort of chosen to have them all mixed together so that you actually don't know who's photos and who's Yeah which we thought would be nice way to show that it's more about the group as a collective and how they come together as a group not just individually and how they help each other out with a photographer a great source of the team where. That's there however is there anybody that's thought out here you think has got a natural you know. It's hard is there because I think they all are bringing is so I did it and I think yeah like there's one woman who is really always saw you on the. I think she's more like technical and she's got a camera and she's got some really nice. Photographs that are quite professional and then there's someone like June is just sort of really getting an idea. She's enjoying herself and showing maybe a story just from a photo and then yeah I mean I've always knows it but I've also got like Bob He's a painter really we did a session where we painted over a photo is and then everyone enjoyed a kind of creating this big thing on a mirror where he's written he's like a spoken word like he. You know we kind of gave him the freedom to come and bring their own bring their own thing as well so it's just been really nice to watch everybody and also teach each other things like Bob Yeah the one he's been leading the the painting and that they really get involved in helping each other with different light techniques and with Dave and his poetry it's really really I see what you're what your method for maybe coalescing something. In the my stuff or the nicest possible way to actually participating actually feel I can do that from the beginning who initially feel that they can that is we could actually how do you persuade them to actually well the other the other week I think I had like 3 jobs like other jobs on that weaken it was quite stressful and I remember feeling not very confident and I tried something new on one of the jobs I'd never done before and I actually wrote a post in the group just saying. We all don't feel confident and some also learning you know we're all still learning and sometimes winning it you know even when we're in a job where we've been paid for sometimes we're just winging it and so. Confidence has to kind of come from maybe just a little things I'm. Going to have to wrap it there unfortunately book can you tell us just very quickly when's the exhibition going to be on file where the tickets where can we get this free and anyone who can just turn. For as long as you come in and can say. 7 Yeah at my club more which is on my denying. And on Wednesday the 11th of December on how long does it run for and it's on the exhibition is until February from Monaghan case thanks so much for joining us thanks so much for letting us know beautiful beautiful story that is most projects really love the idea of bringing communities to get us out also is going to be carrying on next year so anyone that wants to get involved in the area
