Well with the. Now being removed. 29. Should be getting back to normal. In the center of the city. 57. Sometimes pursuing fun can lead to a. Bit of difficulty if you eat yourself to a scam so all faults are so much fun to be had on the Internet. Going to websites posting on forums that you could be laying yourself open to a bit of a scam bit of a fraud and in a few minutes from now hearing from somebody who's involved in the fight against fraud in Nottinghamshire and if you have a concern about online fraud being contacted by a bank or somebody pretending to be a bank or the business awful story the other week on B.B.C. Radio if you were woman who lost so much money because the calls that she was getting were so convincing apparently from a bank that she did exactly as I told her to and ended up with most of her life savings being lost and you hear that story think wow I hope I would never fall for that but of course the woman involved if you have asked her before the attack on her she don't worry I'm ready for fraud I know how to spot it don't worry I'll be safe and that unfortunately the scam still to so good at what they do she got snagged in their traps or at least not because Fiona price is the fraud and cyber protect office are not into place and will be talking with you about how to avoid fraud in a few minutes from now here on B.B.C. Radio not here and I mention that we got a letter tried to turn you know get going with this fully after half past 2 but just a way of teasing you and that with no clues no fanfare very little. I . It's to see if you can identify who is responsible for this letter. A letter that's 10 years Chris based on a letter taken from a song and so you have to identify singers and song. That's what I'm going to give you for now more clues to help you on your way after half past 2 but from just that . Was it and what is it I did 678-3434. This is always a. She said. She said. Get me a me. Something clear cut. Me a make stuff. Is something you. Don't get. C Don't give me don't give me that you should know. That was boy's own song called normal boy on B.B.C. Radio not in Cup you get the answer right already 2 letters entertain your comeback to that after half past but well done rich and. Mark and Joe and try to get that's right and so in quickie shop today you're very sharp today and I like that especially after all that you've been through in the last 10 days or so Christmas and New Year you have every right to be feeling a little bit. Doubt and of course that's a dangerous feeling to be true of paying attention to the world around you can get caught out a couple of people here who want to guide you away from any sort of fraud or cyber crime that fewer and Kirstie if not you should please help if you hide from it give a nice Christmas feeling of yeah yes it was lovely thank you good reviews I've been so if you you can spot a scam e-mail a mile off and I would hate to think so yes. Because the last time I see Christmas and they are relaxed and recharged now back into work and 1st day back at work they throw you on the radio. Well before 10 am was an issue yeah. Well you could see here I will talk a bit more about the world of fraud and cyber crime in just don't know that more about the pair of you could both not I'm sure last is working for the police now you know What's your routine to police then Fiona we Somebody who are interested in this is you going to school and you have always been interested in sort of emergency services and I went to private sector for 4 years before joining the Peace I went to fraud and then joined nots peace and only an organist when I shouldn't for all that we are what. You are your teenage years. I am honestly I didn't really know what I wanted today and I just sort of fell into it and I joined a company and I was just sort of in general Christmas if this into opportunity came for. So I took it and that's kind of our family of 4 and here I am I can see this is a sort of job where the more you learn about it the more your hair curls all the sorts of things that go on as it were and so hot that really does get you yeah I've got 14 years of fraud experience which is like mean thoughtcrime which is a new world that I'm really getting exposed to and absolutely loving at the moment . Roles where they just want to get that protect message out there and try and how all this with the knowledge that we've created over the years so if you've been passing on some of your knowledge to. Yeah we're sharing knowledge and skill just trying to get that protect work I think that's the same question if you can say how did you come to be doing this that was rather unusual job yes I was in the private sector as well so it wasn't a 14 yes and I've always worked in fraud areas in that time say I'm away for a credit card company and spread myself crossed so many fraud areas and ended up doing some form of quality assessment on it as well for different areas so. I'm kind of got bored beyond if they I wanted to get more broad knowledge and not further help the general public and do it in a different way to what had been doing in the private sector which is why I don't really like I am listening I am you might be thinking well you know I've got this weird e-mail I think it might have been afraid of people got an experience I want to share please do feel free to get in touch I travel 3 knots is the 1st word I just give a little bit of your story I think we've all got stories of attempted frauds and we all think we would be above it we all think we would know better and then things happen I was telling people the other day I got an email from purportedly T.V. Licensing and there was a massive one is it was yeah. I went to the B.B.C. And it's a known thing the biggest disciplinary matter if you don't pay T.V. License and you've got T.V. On the B.B.C. They might be saying so I say this like I said I pay monthly. I thought it could just be that for some reason there wasn't quite enough money in the bank cover to the end of the month perhaps I did miss the payment and I followed the link but it was in that wrong. When it was so convincing it looked absolutely right and it had a license number and of course I didn't go up stairs and find my license and check that it was the right number it looked like that's probably my T.V. License Luckily the thing that gave it away to me was it didn't offer me the chance to make the one payment it said you will need to create a brand new direct debit and I still thought I was on a minute. When I checked and I realized that I had missed much more likely locally you did realize because a lot of people haven't been really nice and yeah so what happens if you follow this through the set of a new director but what then happens so if you follow the link to start going to direct I bet you could just write that bit of payment that you're giving to foster so simple as that is to simplify or if by clicking a link just dating you details you could just be giving them the tools that they need to go even further. And there's also the risk of downloading malware and viruses to the device that you're writing from I think not only say so even just even though I think I got away with it I could still have something just by clicking a link so that's where you'd need to have a bit of virus on your computer you've got there even on the way about face no matter what device you've got people think quite protective of various device manufacturers and that's not the case you really do need to protect your device by having my web texting and antivirus that sort of thing because the trouble with this subject is you start to talk about the details of this and people get really scared at and it's like they don't want to hear this is the unknown where I would and that's why where in the job we are live at that protected by new balls that been created this year and I thought this year 2011 was from last year and say nothing and please take it very seriously. We have already for victims and this is the gap that need offending to create that when the victims as well as giving them the protect advice that they need to be forward from being a victim and knowing how to protect themselves. Could Talk about 5 crime often you know well here in the Bible well OK it's not anything we can do to keep people safe from it I think is a good thing but very much to the human fight but fighting crime in the studio B.B.C. Radio T.V. I had a ball from fiasco in custody a couple minutes after the from the Kaiser Chiefs. That was the Kaiser Chiefs and 22 minutes past 2 on B.B.C. Radio hoping to keep you safe from that fraud and cyber crime it might be that you got a tablet or a mobile phone for Christmas and you've got into this brave new world of handheld devices and as you do all sorts of things many many people are starting to realize how brilliant they can Bay photographs and. Distant relatives staying in touch text messages at the touch of a button but it doesn't mean that there are people out there who are trying to abuse the system maybe take some money off you put your difficult position if you're in a price and Kirsty Jackson here from the team should police talking about this world murky waters indeed and murky waters interesting because there is one of these things called Fishing is that they do ph I guess yeah that's right Alan say what that is is as we briefly touched upon it with the T.V. License this variations of how you can be fish and it's quite a lot of really. Good emails that made it out to try and trick you so the trick is is it to take 5 takes that by and verify all your contacts say if it's something that you think you need to look you think it's from your bank make sure you verify it for means that you know to be genuine for a contact number you need to be genuine or free contact information you know to be genuine don't just go through links and contact information from the email and that's one of the things you can do to protect yourself there is this idea that you should always phone the bank yourself rather than take an incoming call and then give information over the phone a verify every time and with phishing emails and they can really scare you as wow so you can get threats we've had recent ones of if you don't pay this from say and will throw acid in your face I mean that scariness of overfishing is that it's almost bought like Yeah and but these are sent our mass and if they refer to them as sextortion emails where it worth it will threaten to expose things that you do personally and that you potentially been washed through in your home and it says you know if you don't pay this once and generally generally it's free because that's been indicated that it's a phishing e-mail right so we start to get into these terms or Bitcoin is a form of payment and there are frauds does use basically a kind of hides money and it's not as straightforward as transferring money is that need the same sort of for. Print right on line cash OK describe it so that if you get an e-mail that threatening in some way but says if you paid the money through Bitcoin you'll be all right yet or else we will hear you know you just get one of those they aren't personal to people they understand. Yeah it's a trick I've heard the sometimes they have a pop one of your password to them yeah generally it's the also That's not I don't know if you know your password so what that's from is from a data breach say you can actually find out if you've been victim to they have breaches online have I been pawn dot com That's P.W. And day and you put your if you put your e-mail address in that you can actually see if you've been involved in dates breach or that's the way you can check to see if that's how they've got hold of you past would generally they are old past with same as long as you're changing your passwords he said I'm secure keeping them separate is the best way to be forward the well this is an Irish world for many trying to get passwords to think about what's important and the risk on law is if it is compromised what is going to compromise you and the impact of that data should that happen so your field is cyber protection and then if you knew your fraud as it were stuck to your genuine but you you don't know what. Was the difference how do you see what you do has been different from what caused it or so we tend to deal with things there are moral. Enabled by telephone for example has to do with stuff that's just all just fly Right right yeah and so our deal with them a massive scam that we've seen in the Maimane is bogus police offices and people are receiving telephone calls you know they're in the comfort of their own home and they're being told that their banks corrupt and they need to go and withdraw money from the bank check that it's counterfeit they're going to send what they say is a Korea to someone's house to collect this money. You know from the scam people are losing their life savings going to soon as people receive Of course. And it's a police officer the going to do anything that you know they're asked today and so it's just really really important like host he was saying to always verify you all you know the telephone calls that you will receive in yeah it's a mean trick isn't it you just use that assumption that people if they hear the words police officer will play along I should point out that we did check but Fiona's and Kirsty's passes the photo ID on their own yard held passes and that's quite important somebody knocks at the door and close to something they should have a fight or they believe in vats. Carry and be I mean I wouldn't I want to not seem to place passion I actually look like I know you've got something around your neck with the logo want to go. Yet I wouldn't know what I mean more than you would know that my B.B.C. One is just a real that aluminum a dog with you yeah yeah you know I have wonderful people especially I talk to Ed not so especially for you know with the age range that she seems to have to deal with so does it help if people get in touch and tell you even if maybe they think well it's a bit like now I didn't get called and I managed to get away with it even if you want to know about that yeah yeah definitely even if people haven't lost money and never realized they still want to know about it we ask the old fraud is reported through action fraud I mean can you do you know if the phone Ole and online as well . In the few minutes if that's OK that's fair to price and Jackson try to keep it for fraud and cyber crime and $29.00. For David is trying to win a fight about headlines. Which will be on the run shortly after the show madness it's House of. That was madness and House of fun trying to die minutes to 3. Updates on the news headlines now I'm Alan Clifford and a man has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill in South well this morning Lincolnshire police are treating a house fire which killed 3 people near Boston as murder and Nasim scientists a pioneering research into non chemotherapy treatments for blood cancers cloudy afternoon temperature around 5 Celsius into the searing it's not generally dry some clear spells cold and frosty nights temperatures down to 0 Celsius cold frosty then to start Thursday mainly Dr Fine tomorrow spells of sunshine areas of cloud but cold for Celsius tomorrow is high. All traffic moving nicely around not seeing him at the moment no problems on the major routes Brian Clough off way towards V.M. One is doing fine a bit of work going on in Sutton this afternoon could be Folly Road to attempt a large sum roadworks a Kirkland close also Stonyford road the basic So to H. Look out for work going on at Mill trail walk the M one is doing fine after some earlier minor problems but there is a speed restriction of 50 miles an hour in both directions from Junction $24.00 not to himself to $25.00 for Nottingham a restriction of 50 miles an hour so look out for that traffic and travel on B.B.C. Radio Nottingham. But I gave an early play outs to the letter for letters entertaining and a few people to say well done to Neil and how cool Robin would feel trees are in top Valley I'll play the letter and again the radio and all sing and in a few minutes from now where we're stuck in the middle of her conversation about cyber crime and fraud the people who are trying to get money from you by pretense by pretending to be somebody else betrayed to be a bank or even a police officer they. Do that by the phone they might do it via the Internet and emails and even text messages I get messages the same as emails here. Also is we're communicating all of these ways where you could be targeted somebody text in what was the name to the name of the website to check if you've been hacked and you've been sorry have I been pawned dot com and the porn is P W and. Those who know their computer speak will understand why that is it's kind of odd P W E D port and it has nothing to do with born. But it is to do with the porn in a chess game but we'll leave that conversation there for now. Making it worse rather than better I. Tried to mention that again what's more before you guys go and staying in touch with the world of fighting cyber crime and fraud you pair Kirsty and fearless in quite proactive and you make use of social media yourself so if you have Twitter accounts where you can be posting the latest news yes a 1st cyber crime you can follow is not cyber crime and what we do is we a day when there's a threat or a scam that we can put out them we think it will be showing as well say as we're following and especially at the Christmas period love a device for the poor and how to make you devise a. Advice and password to close on that back home as well so your act not cyber crime but about you know if you're on Twitter or Twitter as well Yeah mine's at Knott's fraud cops and it says similar to coast years where we put out any sort of trends of scams that we're saying as well as. Tend to put them out a Facebook page as well Nottinghamshire police Facebook page night so couple of Twitter accounts worth following and some of the information exists on Web sites as well you know you can type in. Some detail of a concert. You had your last of find some so this is a fraud this is a scam. But it's as I was saying earlier it's the one where you don't think it's a scam that's the problem all the time you think it's a scam you fight but they can be so good so convincing if you ever got close to being caught yourself. I have actually when I was quite young actually say it was before I even did this job one of my cards was claimed but that was years ago now yeah I'd like to think I am quite good at spotting these types of things but anyway anyone can be a victim and that sort of why we're so busy and they weren't as well this is all anyone can be a victim you know people people feel for wish when they fall for this type of thing and they really shouldn't because as you say they're so convinced then. They you know they use they use the threat and then they panic people as well and once you know you want someone to panic you not thinking straight and that's when you're going to fall for it and it will be in the middle of something you might be in a training session that you just quit taking a phone call that you receiving and that could be with the phone call that you fall on because your mindset isn't to say because you're in a rush to get back your your wiser days be quickly to fix this phone call and you let your guard down so it just takes that back you know you think about that phone call and how you can have every Fiat always like that you verify and or a way of contact that you know you're one of the piece of advice I've heard is if you get a phone call from your bank apparently you're not sure yeah phone them back but triumph over a different phone because
