Pop singers one of whom had spoken about her issues with mental health. And there was great public discussion about the lack of psychological support for these young women who are often held to a possible high stompers behavior. Well the NATO leaders have their summit proper at a luxury hotel and golf course sidewalk from Hartford later today some cracks of a marriage in the alliance have been tense exchanges between President trumpet president Mark Crump Wild Turkey is at odds with the allies over its military action in North Korea despite the differences Prime Minister Barak's Johnson will insist that Britain's commitment to the alliance remains rock solid on the 1st day of the NATO meeting President Trump said he wants absolutely nothing to do with the n.h.s. 8 days ahead of the u.k. Election Mr Trump also said he could work with anybody in Number 10 B.B.C.'s defense and diplomatic correspondent Jonathan Marcus has been following events I asked Jonathan if President Trump still sees NATO in purely transactional terms yes I think he is much I think to this to the dismay of many of his NATO allies I think the problem is this Mr Trump tried to set a positive note at the outset he said NATO was doing a lot better there was more money coming in he obviously took personal responsibility for achieving that himself the problem is that the more he talked he raised the question as to whether the Europeans got a lot more out of NATO he said than the Americans did he raised the question marks as to whether Russia was really a photo op perhaps it should be a friend he still used this word delinquent about some of the NATO allies who don't in his view spend enough the 2 percent he said wasn't enough maybe it should be 4 percent he seemed to raise questions about a real is payments on and that's not the way the NATO budget works pretty kind said that if people weren't paying the 2 percent then maybe they should have to pay the back money for the years that they were spending less so all in all this sort of transactional aspect seems to be uppermost in his mind and this is something I think that particularly gets under the skin of the French president. Emanuel mackerel sitting next to Mr Trump yesterday he made it very clear that as he put it there were other ways of paying your dues he referred to the loss of life recently of French soldiers in the counterterrorist operation in Mali and of course I think this is also what President mackerel of France means when he says NATO is strategically brain dead I don't think he's saying that the alliance is dead in any sense but he it's really a plea that they need to start talking about the key strategic issues and not have this perennial debate all the time about contributions and about money well let's talk a little bit about strategy because it would seem that Turkey is really giving everybody in NATO a big headache especially when it comes to offering to to pull out or at least not support fully NATO policy in the Baltic states. Well absolutely and the Turks are really posing a 3 fold problem at the moment on the one hand as you rightly say they're effectively holding hostage a reinforcement plan for the Baltic region until they see as they would see it NATO allies come around to their view of the Kurdish fighters and Kurdish separatism Fex Turkey now to some extent that would mean NATO intruding into the internal security issues of a member state that's something NATO simply isn't going to do you then have of course Turkey suspicion to buy a very sophisticated Russian surface to air missile system which is an extraordinary thing for a NATO country to do the possibility if they don't get advanced American warplanes they might go to Moscow with a shopping list for aircraft as well that would be even more extraordinary then of course you have the Turkish basic position its intrusion its incursion into northern Syria something again which very much upset the French and indeed there's been a real dingdong between the French and the Turks over recent days with the Turks basically saying the French support terrorists are i.e. The Kurdish fighters Mr macron coming back today saying you know the Turks are fighting the people that the West was allied with against i.a.s. It's Lysis and that they have very different a different definitions of terrorism and it's very hard to see how this circle is going to be squared in the near term one thing to say I think in fairness in support if you like of Mr position is that of course in a way it's also a response to America's increasingly confused position in the region the view of many people that America is retreating from the Middle East region and I suppose that's one of the reasons why the Turks are basically doing what they think they need to do to secure their security interests because they feel the American presence is less certain and in any case of course as far as the Turks see it the Americans up to now have been allied with these Kurdish fighters who fundamentally the Turks see as their enemy. And just as a point of information people might listen to this a simple What does Turkey matter you know they're aware they're on the edge of NATO Why are is everybody so exercised about Turkey as a NATO member whoa whoa bigger contribution to star here actually me well look Turkey has very large armed forces if you want to simply count numbers that's important it's a big player in military terms but I think you said it yourself there way out there on the eastern flank of NATO buttressed up against the Middle East this is an important and crucial strategic piece of real estate this is where NATO territory meets the turbulent Middle East with all its problems you know population growth economic problems fundamentalist Islam all of the difficulties that we've seen unfolding on the radio waves and on our t.v. Screens over recent years so Turkey is a vital member of the alliance in that sense I don't think Turkey is likely to leave NATO it's just going to be a bumpy ride and when you reach out on this people who know a lot more about these things than I do who do raise questions about Turkey's continued membership but I think that's really it's very hard to see Turkey actually leaving I think they're going to try to weather this storm perhaps that one day president or one will be replaced by somebody a little bit less brazen if but I suppose again from the Turkish side people would say that these are fundamental security issues for Ankara and that you know if they feel that their interests are not being secured elsewhere they're going to do what they believe they have to do. And if we come back to the the Russian front if you will I mean what used to be called the Russian Front only no 5 years after Is NATO going to condemn Russia's annexation of Crimea is NATO losing a certain kind of sharpness in its in its view of its fundamental mission. No I mean governments have been very consistent in their position against the annexation of Crimea that's why there are sanctions against Russia if you think back to other things that the Putin's regime is alleged to have done the chemical attack for example in Salzburg in Britain you saw a remarkably united NATO response to that with more sanctions Russian diplomats also known as spy is expelled from virtually all the NATO countries and indeed from NATO itself but Russia poses a different kind of problem you know countries in the alliance like Poland or the Baltic republics with their history of a Soviet occupation obviously feel very bitter towards Moscow they see the military threat coming from Moscow in a much more obvious way perhaps than we do in Britain or the French or even the Germans but you know that the threat from Russia today is not really the issue of you know mass tank karmas rolling across into NATO territory what we're seeing by Mr Putin is a very skillful use of what limited power Russia has information warfare propaganda cyber attacks all of these operations you know hybrid warfare it's called by some people other people call it operations in the gray zone somewhere between war and peace operations which you can't necessarily say who exactly did it you know the banking system in a Baltic republic might be attacked by computer viruses or who did it how quickly can you say if you can point the finger with any accuracy what are you going to do in response is these kind of questions that need to increasingly is going to have to deal with regard to Russia of course we speak to experts on NATO in the West they say that often you know the divisions between the NATO countries or the presence of Mr Trump a great disruptor as he is I'm sure he'd probably be proud of that label that actually many ways makes things a lot easier for the Russians because there are all sorts of little threads that they can pull all sorts of little divisions that they can exploit and goodness the differences between Turkey and the rest of the alliance is very clearly a difference that the Russians are exploiting to the full. John markets the world of Korean entertainment as and shot once again this morning after the death of another star cha in heart was found dead at the tender age of 27 he had starred and several films and what was a fledging career fledgling film career but it was also a singer and it comes only weeks after the deaths of 2 k. Pop women singers Guha and sui earlier this year the band b.t.s. Took a month off saying that it was to let them enjoy their normal lives as normal 20 something young men will question is whether Mr Cha had a normal life as a normal young man Joining us now is a reporter and so Julie Yoon Hello Julie Hi Ron I think the reason we're interested is obviously because of the deaths of these these 2 young people women stars which are very unfortunate for China's family what kind of attention is this causing in Korea. So he is the 3rd young Korean entertainer to die in less than 2 months spent of time here in South Korea and it has truly exposed the painful side of working in Korean entertainment industry as young artists. We found out about death just yesterday so a lot of the things are has not been confirmed yet. But he was found dead yesterday and he was only $27.00. I think in terms of what we can say about his death is that it's in a slightly different line of the 2 female stars because he was starring in a t.v. Series called. The Premier just last week and a show was on air on a major South Korean t.v. Station giving him the opportunity to a broader audience so it he was definitely on the rise of his career. It's true he is an actor and he was very passionate about acting but he had a dream. I guess special boy band career as a member of surprise you in 2718 he was an actor group so it's slightly different for the Cape boy bands that we know it was a group but I think it really shows how. Korean entertainment industry approaches to young. Darling stars and how they really in some ways come on to tie their talents and the career was very short to surprise us career was very short but Chad continued on for his acting career and picked up smart small roles here and there he wasn't picky he starred in many independent like some independent. Online t.v. Series and now he was starring in a major network t.v. Show so it wasn't exciting time for him. But what you're saying is he was on his way up he wasn't the kind of Justin Bieber of Korea or or anything like that. You know so I think a lot of the fans and just Korean public in general when people read about the news I think people have noticed this change but you know if it was a he wasn't in fear he was in like a p.t.s. Member or he was in one of the back pain but it was someone that people might think that they've seen on t.v. At one point or on the Internet. You know so it is sir. You know people be doing all sorts of things and drawing all kinds of moral support but the family wants some want some peace and so on but is it going to change is the way that young young stars in Korea are managed going to change as a result of all this. So his agency was very quick in terms of releasing a statement about the tragedy yesterday and cautioned against speculating about the circumstances of his death and how his family wants privacy. There has been a lot of debate and discussions both online and offline about the need to change to call Sure in South Korea not only within the entertainment industry but abroad like the pressure that young people face every day and especially in entertainment industry where people are exposed to tremendous psychological distress you know they're angry or and movement is scrutinized both on stage and off stage around the clock and make New Year's hate comments bumbler them everywhere they go especially when it comes to private lives. But for a child case he is latest Instagram post was just 2 days ago the day before his death and he a load and it's a picture with a I don't cope don't catch a cold everyone so on that pose dows of the fans have been leaving comments expressing their dismay but also. The heartbroken ness that they are facing right now so I think in like in South Korea we are still trust this thing. Yet another young talented artist dead but I think moving on and we should definitely talk drop or about this tragic chain that we've written lanced and we haven't seen any comments from the government yet but hopefully something will come out of it. Julie thank you thank you. Well the Turner Prize has been well and truly disrupted their prestigious prize say 35 years old has been awarded to all 4 of the shortlisted artists it was a decision prompted by the artists themselves Mario Lawrence Hubbell Hamden Helen comic can tie a shiny who will now split $40000.00 pounds the result was announced by Edward n. And full of British for get a ceremony at the tonic a type or a gallery and market at a time of political division in Britain and conflict in much of the world the artists wanted to use the occasion of a turn a prize to make a strong statement of community and solidarity. And have themselves into a collective. Was . Incredible. The Chile felt such a shared commitment to action social and political classes should be recognized at the present time they have unanimously agreed to a wounded the $29.00 team Turner prize to the collective. 38 by the 3rd nominee. I've been speaking about it with Susan Mansfield the former art critic of the Scotsman I asked Susan if she could remember anything similar in the history of the town a prize to my knowledge I don't think there's been one I think if anything it shows us that the Turner Prize can still surprise us I think we had possibly thought that it had passed that point but no in fact here we are surprised again that they're going to share between 043 artists. It would seem that the artist fairly put the arm on the committee though didn't they because they wrote a joint letter that they said they wanted this prize to be a collective statement of commonality a multiplicity in the solidarity at the time of political crisis if you're on a judging committee and you get a license like that it's a bit of a face or isn't it I think it is I mean I think you know it kind of goes against the nature of petition or a price and I think you know obviously in the past there always has been one winner I don't think they've even shared it between 2 artists so yeah they're being asked to do something very unprecedented and then they've got to decide whether they're going to do that or what you know whether they're going to go against that that actually choose someone and it would appear that the the artists I mean fairing this summer I don't know this for a fact but it would appear that the artists decided they were a group after they'd all been nominated you know so they they land of each other's names as nominees and then and then somehow this letter. Was produced the very interesting response is that it is absolutely is and it does look as if that's happened I mean I'm not aware of them being particularly connected before they were nominated for the price and I think it's interesting that they're saying they want to do this kind of in response to the particular moment that the political moment and I guess this is the 1st time there's been a turn a prize announced a week before general election so that's possibly in everybody's mind just wow. Let's talk about the individuals can sound was talk about all 4 of them give them each other moment ask him Aereo is 33 comes from Columbia and he has produced a series of paper about a figures which probably represent a globalised workforce Have you any experience of Mr Maria as work knows a great deal apart from what I've been reading and experiencing. I gather that he took all these fi
