The. B.B.C. Radio you're. Going to choosing all white children your 3 chill 7 between now and the 6 that will be hearing how hard it's been selected for the next phase of the rollout of universal credits will be explained in just a moment if you missed it the 1st time around I've been talking to foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt It's one of the 2 leadership hopefuls for the Conservative Party. And indeed the future prime minister so he had to say if you missed it the 1st time around. I his opponent meanwhile calling for a view on sin taxes on sugary drinks and fatty foods on the same day that counts research U.K. City is as bad as smoking when it comes to your chances of getting council would go more. Noisy bird in picturing in the picture a pick. Up and Speaking of animals on unlikely news molding Siegel's imprisoning pension is in Lancashire and want to motorists in Denver Colorado follow the data from Google Maps to avoid a road pleasure that didn't go well that's coming up an unlikely. Someone mentioned something about things not going to terribly well well I think they roll outs of universal credits has certainly had its critics but benefit claimants in heritage say they've now been left on the verge of homelessness because of the roll out of the new welfare system universal credit card it's now been selected by the government to pilot the latest phase of the controversial benefit system by 2023 1000000 households and you could be receiving benefits through the new scheme the government says extra support is being given to people in power gets in the universe versal credits working where we can have. Now for our reporter David Rohde SU joins us now just just remind us then David why Universal Credit is so controversial why the scales being piloted here in Oregon yes acid in jewels universal credit it's the biggest shake up of the welfare system here in the United Kingdom well for the last 30 years and the government has been trying to roll this system out for the last 5 years and what's been happening in the last 5 years is that every part of the country has receive universal credit and if you are someone who is making a new benefit claim for the 1st time the chances are you've been put on to universal credit for these 6 particular benefits that are rolled into one monthly payment and the government says this is a good idea because it combines the $6.00 benefits into $1.00 payment and those benefits are working tax credits child tax credits Jobseekers Allowance income support employment support and housing benefit if you've been claiming one of those benefits in the last couple of years chances are you'd like to be moved on to universal credit but this pilot inherit it now is taking people who have been claiming these benefits for a long time and putting them on to this new system for the 1st time ever and we've been speaking to people in how to get to have been on Universal Credit Jennifer Kay is a universal credit claimant inherited she told me because of complications and areas in the benefits system one month she could be paid over $500.00 pounds a month and the next month she could be left penniless and I'm paying a vessel credit that doesn't get packed like it taken out of a in a vessel credit to fill out a book and then knock at all think of one out you fear losing your home yeah I have it I. Oh you know that well yes and madge and it's not sort of an isolated case this is it I mean that there has been a raft of criticisms of the system but the government says that credit is working at I mean what's the evidence either way that there were there have been critics of the policy for how it's been rolled out critics have said look there hasn't been enough money dedicated to this particular policy the government says it has upped the amount of money it has spent on universal credit in recent years the evidence that universal credit is working as the government say it is this that the number of people employed in places like Harry gets an across Yorkshire is nearly record level so take care of it for example nearly 80 percent of people in her get who want to job currently have a job that is a record level and that is what the government is saying proves that universal credit is working it's helping people back into the workplace who previously would have been claiming benefits Martin step our lives inheritance been in and out of jobs in the last couple of years he moved from claiming jobseeker's allowance to claiming universal credit back in 2015 he told me the new benefit system is better than Sam's in beans or working a job and looking at the hours and thinking that's not going to be enough money for me to put food on the table whereas now with universal credit in the system they're going place now with the top ups and everything I can go for a part time job on an on going to be better off than I was on the old system so I mean therefore universal credit is for me at least proving to be a much better benefits to be on than than the old one and that is what the governments were hoping from the scheme but the political fallout is no doubt about it it's has dogged the government hasn't it yes it has and this is being a millstone the number of promises David Cameron and Theresa may have had to grapple with because it is something that has been such a huge change that attracted a lot of interest in Duncan Smith who was the man who invented universal credit he resigned over the policy back in 20 Samant. Then subsequent Work and Pensions secretaries have found it a very difficult task to try and navigate this process through the House of Commons and the current Work and Pensions Secretary is Amber road she's tried to reset the policy and the government says when it comes to how to get that they are very much listening to what's been said by local people in her a good jury in this pilot and they will make any changes this is necessary the hurry get Tempe Andrew Jones is a minister in the current conservative administration he says he'll monitor the pilot whilst it's taking place in his constituency I think it has been a positive thing but I also want to make sure that the rollout is handled carefully sensitively and make sure that people are benefiting from the rollout so I look at Universal Credit as a positive thing we've had it in heritage since 2014 we want to the very 1st areas in the country and I have followed its rollout very closely that means meeting with the Job Center meeting with people claiming that that benefit and also meeting with employers and how that's how we get M.P. Andrew Jones a minister. In the current conservative administration his thoughts nice to hear from him by the way of rhetoric that we're getting on. David thank you very much for that the next phase of universal credits being rolled out in the Harry gets and doubtless We'll hear more on that over the coming weeks let's get the latest on the roads now. What can you tell us David. Pretty good busy through Scarboro on Filey road around the Queen Margaret's road lights like the bears on the outer ring road around Clifton Warren some busy traffic as well on the road around the hacks the road roundabout and very slow on the M one south of the M 16 down towards Dushan $41.00 a car get out or down to a broken down vehicle but accident and incident through both how to get in there is not a lot to worry about between the tour on the Essex Fire on the $50.00 the only 3 star break in the A 658 up and down Paul bank. Very very. Seems to be. 15 minutes. Of the next prime minister. And you can hear what he said to me. How myself I it's baby sea radio your so you're beginning to become a bit more A familiar with the. 2 I was going to front runners but there's only 2 in the contest the band hoping to be the next provide a minister in the Conservative Party leadership contest Morris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt Well tomorrow here in Yorkshire back on the hustings to give local Conservative Party members that chance to hit what they have to say and grill them on the various matters bus Johnson still viewed as the front runner. Thinks he's beginning to win people over perhaps persuade more conservative members that maybe he's the right person for the top job he says his skills as a negotiator and experience as an entrepreneur mean he's best placed to sort out a bricks it deal well I got to tell him one of the if you. Scott. Well who actually is a supporter of Jeremy Hunt who is quite clear about his standing on the no deal he didn't protect the wonder no deal but he's not afraid to go for a deal rather good will and the deal breaks it would be disastrous for farmers so is Jeremy Hunt listening Absolutely and he's been giving me very useful and important advice and I've been meeting farmers up and down the country and if you're a a sheep farmer for example exporting a lot of lamb to the E.U. And it would suddenly get whacked with a 40 percent tariff that's pretty serious and that's why it's so important that we choose as prime minister the post person who is most likely to get us a deal and I'm a businessman by background. We negotiate it's you know a way of life for us when you set up your own business and I think I'm the best person to do that but we have to be prepared for an ideal situation as well and so precisely because I'm thinking of those farmers in Yorkshire and across the country I announced a 6000000000 pound package at the start of this week just to show that we will be prepared for any eventuality and those figures are just looking at those already where I mean you're both both you and Boris Johnson a promising lots I notice that Chris Patten a former chairman of the Conservative Party says your tax and spending pledges are making the Labor Party look like fiscal moderates your own chancellor says he's saying there's the don't add up there's no pot of money at the Treasury 26000000000 pounds is already earmarked for the European up evil he's calling it well 26000000000 pounds is in Mark 4 No Deal resilience and he's right and I've been very straight with people that the the other things that I want to spend money on the N.H.S. And the education system I'd like us for example to be the 1st government to abolish illiteracy because nearly quarter of our primary school leavers can't read or. To the right standard but the extra money for that would have to wait in a no deal situation because you can't spend money twice that's a pretty basic rule for anyone who whose pays their bills in their life and so on I believe that very strongly so. No double counting here and that's why it's so important to choose someone who has a prospect of getting a deal but we also made a promise as M.P.'s not just me but all of us who are M.P.'s We said that we would give the decision on whether we're going to stay in the European Union to the British people and we would implement whatever they decided so it's not possible to get a deal that we can get through Parliament we have to honor that commitment and I've made it very clear that I will but Parliament's not going to go from there the elderly. Well that's why it's dangerous to promise a hard deadline of the 31st of October because it doesn't matter if it's me or Boris parliament successfully change the law against the will of the government to stop or No Deal Breck's it in March and they will try to do that again and if that happens that is out of the control of of anyone if their prime minister but I hope they don't take no deal off the table because you know as a negotiator the best way to get the right deal for this country is for the other side to know that you're prepared to walk away Boris Johnson's promise to support the rural community and their deal bricks it's an area with price support inefficiency payments whatever they may be we've got a real problem in this particular part of the world with social care it's a huge part of the budgets of North Yorkshire County Council what are you going to do for all of North Yorkshire. Let's talk about social care as you mention it Jules I mean as health secretary I got a big extra funding settlement for the N.H.S. And my next job was a 10 year plan for the social care system because I think a basic principle of a Conservative government should be that every single older person in our society is treated with dignity and respect my own grandma lived till she was 100 and you know she was well looked after but I remember the extreme discomfort of losing one bodily function after another and in that situation you want to know that your loved one is being properly cared for and so I do think that councils need extra money and I've said that I think that's one of the austerity cuts that went too far but I also think that we need personal responsibility as well and I think we need to encourage people to save when they're younger for their social care costs those last few months of your life which can be very challenging just in the way that we say for pensions so we need to create incentives so that people put aside just that little bit extra money when they are younger. They are US foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt's one of the kind of that's full of the Tory party leadership there at the hustings tomorrow in Yorkshire Boris Johnson in Yorkshire as well and we'll be reporting on that next week the site of some of my songs so you may be see because this sounds today I'll be demonstrations dismantles. This is. The great. People. At this year's show. So. I'll see you know the Sawyer scored the show. All 3 days of the great isn't. Your station for the radio. Radio. On. And maybe to be honest. With. In. Some. social media. Facebook is still working. So this won't stop a paddling. Rather than a total old global outage we're told the Facebook is who appears to be specific to certain features. Uses a reporting that you can't post photos Well I say uses. Says it's not working Jerry because that still he says is a case that clearly there's no working. It is pictures on Facebook of them what will we do as well. As well their well. Yes and Instagram is the drama still working well if there's a teenager in the year they probably need a hug right. Now. David who is working has the latest on the road what will we do with this society crumbles down around our knees and that would make. The July 24th the end of civilization and. My stuff working account of Facebook been on about for years the M one southbound south of 41 it can get towards 40 flushed I queuing following only a broken down vehicle or lens have now reopened a 593 skipped in road closed due to an accident involving a bus and a car from the junction Rippon road who ran towards a new part roundabout that blocked as over literally 5 minutes ago is a very heavy and very very slow between the roundabout and the at the junction lane expect delays as a result of that we're already very very very very slow on the bank at the moment and for really really busy that everything else thankfully seems to be coping quite nicely no major headaches be travelling through North Dallas and traffic through 1st equally civilized very busy if you're traveling into went out of Scarborough on the I 64 bit of and beyond that coping quite nicely so just to recap if the line skipped in or through. You know from the new park roundabout across towards rounded lane due to an accident involving a post and a full of 15 minute that's not going to be a good place for that but in the marketplace all. Right thank you very much indeed B.B.C. Radio. Now than we've been hearing this. Or maybe this. Well yes I'm told. Is the appeal you had. It's been roughly the few fathers in Pickering people are so angry they've been taken to social media well that's before it crashed clearly to voice their opinions The problem is the P. Yes this is a this is on Facebook and this is lots of people talking about it and so what are the people you've heard talking about what's the general consensus that they want to have people feel I just think Ana Montes maybe Don and I because you've got I think it was about 11 o'clock on a nighttime when I was mechanics we had noise 5 are so heavy so I don't know so the theory is looking for love to wreck and while yes I think probably it was a one point. So we took a far to think of. It was Cheney Yeah. On top of the roofs of it to be hands or a pinhead on a pickup model to me now we don't know really what it was. I hear a guy say is a video on your friend's Facebook and the one on top of the chimney breast there but that one looks like it's got the little crowd yeah that could be the male could I think is the male has the crown. Say that like kind of try to. Find that one but yeah that's one on top of the roof where the down money drive for that I'm sure the pay had I'll be fine I don't think anybody will.
