The company's A.G.M. Where the publishing of its accounts happens they prompted the Bridgewater and West Somerset M.P. In the deal grain jets to call the company to provide an honest accurate report of how it's doing financially Jonathan joins Pratt says they have made changes with their benefits everybody benefits from their patronage in the business is performance good thing is that the changes we've made are working so I want to be there to demonstrate that in the year end accounts hence the G.M. Back in February when I when I announced that we did take a voice with this overseas practitioners The good thing is that the work that we needed to do we've done we've executed very very quick and timely and it's working the Liberal Democrats newest M.P. Says he has burst Boris Johnson's bubble by winning the Brecon and run a ship by election Jane Dodds overturned a Conservative majority of more than 8000 just 8 days into Mr Johnson's time as prime minister it leaves him with a Commons majority of just one went out of the 21000 design a garden award has been announced at Taunton flower show Sally Laney and her team won the cup for that garden which is inspired by a charity in the county which supports people who are visually impaired Well we were asked to year ago if we do a garden celebrate Somerset site because they're just celebrating 100 years and they've just been awarded the Queen's Award as well which is fantastic so I really took their advice on how to prepare a sensory garden some of the sites colors yellow and blue so we've gone completely that Americans are learning the bumblebees only see or see best in yellow and blue as well so obviously it's very important insight as well B.B.C. Somerset Caroline in the soft inane It's 8 minutes past 5 and the woman now in charge of battling the British farming and the environment chairs Churchill's best place blend in Palace to make her fast speech the new environment secretary 2 reasons really as was speaking yesterday at the B.B.C. Countryfile live event she insisted brags it would happen on October the deal on our Dale and said while there was risks for farmers and reproduces they would also be opportunities I want to see all farmers released from the appalling complexity rigidity and bureaucracy of the c.a.p So we will press the head with a new system of support which rewards farmers for environmental stewardship on improving the health and welfare of on a ML's a cool and is to provide a stable platform for our producers to thrive and to seize the opportunities provided by bricks it to sell our fantastic food in new markets all around the world James small is a life stock farm on the mend pills in Somerset and a member of the N F U he's given his thoughts on her appointment Yeah it's certainly an interesting appointment given that she's from and that includes when I would have. Been constituent what she you know I'd like to think she's going to come but it will clean. All aspects of life. Certainly the farming community about what we're really going to need forward of every situation we find ourselves in said she said that there are risks of farmers if we leave E.U. Without a deal at the end of October that she said there are also opportunities what are your thoughts on that statement of course that we've been telling you now for over 4 decades or anything that isn't part of the NOR will be a disruption will be some risk that will be some disruption if we would leave without a new treaty. To supersede the existing one. But you know if this is handled right I think that there can be some great opportunities for British farming going forward the difficulty comes is farming is really long term we cannot make instant changes just on my own farm has some of the breeding cycles of like 3 to 4 years in time so we are making decisions now 420212022 outcomes so what we need to see is a period of stability we have a government that has got repacking British farming to ensure our consumers have access to a great standard food that is produced in a way that people want to say that we look to the future that's what opportunities there may be both domestically and into the export markets and what amputate would you like to be addressed I think for me at the moment it is about stability and taste although Brecht is by its very nature unstable a government can actually come forward and say well whatever measures or whatever happens out there we can put measures in place that will ensure that there is the ability there for the farming community and I think that's really important yet this isn't about long term planning right now this is about getting us over the short term period to ensure that we have adequate food to ensure that farmers are able to get in that businesses in that we're able to deliver what the consumer wants both in terms of food and in terms of environment then we can look at what we can do for the future when we start talking about what with all hopefully to start with talking in terms of public money for public goods but I think it would be remiss to look at that right now I think we need to get over the short term maybe 2 years something in that line that have a bit of stability let's have a better certainty during what is by next an uncertain time and then we can look to what we can do for the future do you can't do you feel confident with the new government we have in place these feel that they will probably take care reform isn't it comes to Baghdad are you confident in that. Confident that this government has as its number one point to achieve the outcome of the referendum which was to deliberate. I think that they have now got themselves a quite a short tolling period in which to ensure that the country is as prepared as possible. Because resilient possible. Unfortunately that the things that have been done now should have been done probably 3 years ago and I hope that they take seriously the importance of food and farming the largest primary industry here in the country into bedrock of the food in the food and farming sector with what are nearly 4000000 people employed and 114000000000 pounds the economy sort of absolutely vital that we don't have this reaction to farming and to the food supply and so that's why I want to see those measures been put in place now which is probably possible Winchell but we have to put the thing that's James. On the mend it holes in Somerset's and I'm sure we'll keep you posted on any more movement on anything that trees or video says about food farming or indeed drugs it. To only get a. Visit. To. They. Fall down. A bit there. And then. Let's. Go. To show that I get that. And. Then. Show. You. Just. Because. I love tonight he called out to find grounds for the sellers for me hiring Brad to keep it the night in a highly recommend I'll be honest I wasn't sure if I'm going to like it it blew me away I just thought she was amazing very strict back version of Lady Gaga as well but just truly she looks amazing in her kind of polished look but I thought she just you know she was such a stage presence screen presence as well so definitely we can being if you will. You know there were commendation. Thank you face and maybe some of that it's now 20 past 5 happy Well if you just joined us all your front of animals like I am this is right up your street if 8 this is all about some of the animal rescue center that appealing for donations to help a charity that is them further away from home I think it's fair to say Somerset and also animal rescue based in Wincanton helps people here in the county but also support a dog sanctuary in Sri Lanka this is probably animal S.O.S. Project and Kim is on the line now from animal S.O.S. Hello hello there so Kim you're overseeing this project from Somerset to Sri Lanka How did this come about well I know leaders from from Somerset and also animal rescue we've been friends for quite a long while we went out to Sri Lanka together quite a few years ago and we were absolutely horrified but the state of the stray animals Sri Lanka has a huge Street dock population and cats as well as about 3000000 strays living on the streets most of them are in horrendous straits they have no hope of any help because they just suffer they get run over they get maggot wounds and Schumer's and cheekbone diseases and also you know they're hungry they don't have access to clean water so you know every day is fragile for them and there's a lot of suffering a great deal of suffering which you won't see here because you know we don't have stray dogs here suffering on the streets without any cancer so it is quite a shock you know when you see this as an animal lover when you see this level of suffering for how do you go about trying to rescue these dogs and cats how many are there that you actually managed to rescue Well we before the charity was founded we sort of went in there and just sort of took some to the vets for their own money and you know then we could find homes for them we bought some over and. And basically try to get them adopted over here because you know the ones that we left behind subsequently died because it was never ever happy ending and we really wanted some happy ending so I founded the charity as a registered as U.K. Registered charity called animal and so I should run that was in 2007 we managed to raise money over 2 years it took a long while actually to become operational because we didn't have any funds we took 2 years to raise money to get some land in the selfish run Korea and then this is for our animal centric so we so you know we need to have a base because if not if you treat these critical cases they need somewhere safe to recuperate some of the old dogs some of the Blind Dog some of the disabled animals ne to have a safe haven that's what they really want the most so we got the land and we really have been operationally Sri Lanka 20 years now and we're looking after $1600.00 rescues is probably the largest animal sanctuary in the region. And this 55 cats the rest are all rescued street dogs that we have nursed back from the brink we have over 200 disabled doc is to a lot of them to actually walk again after some rehab because some of them it just got fractured. Bones you know pelvis and leg fractures so they do actually recover with some way have. A lot of the animals that we do have at the site recall actually survive on the streets they really have suffered so much and they're very frail with obviously nursed them back to health a healthy Juan's the younger ones we try to home but homing is is is not easy over there so you know we have this massive sanctuary with lots and lots of animals it's very expensive to run because obviously the more animals we can't you know we have to to obviously pay for change and we have to resit and thence we do outreach programs you know the weekends where we go a new Turkey's new training. this is the best way to suit of reduce a so hiring and then i ask about that yeah absolutely because of see fickle the huge number of dry is in the ones you're program yes it is new strings a big part of all work we go out there and basically put post does out a few days before hand we go out you know a truck and to basically we picture up a tent and we also free a spy a new turned we vaccinate docs against because officers this rape is in traditional a lot but you know this still the risk of rape isn't a so we also free angie rabies vaccinations we give out free leads in colors because a lot of the low kusa quite pull out they call a forward you know the sort of luck trees it weaken our pets here so a lot of the docs have was put around then next and when they grow it almost decapitates the doc the of had some awful case is a the song she with the doakes that base that you almost been decapitated where the was actually grown into the neck so we give out free lades in collars and we give education no brochures about how to care for animals light you know don't dogs and cats need water and around that dodged and around you know how to the basic needs or of them and so we do the new sreng as well as office lee given a lifeline and and you know best me treatment to doakes and caps are literally don't on the straights now i'm we get i mean their requests that week at you know or a basic lady just beyond dog capabilities i mean we just get dozens and dozens of request every day about dying animals well over the on of the city we can't help the mo but a chair because you know were so stretched as it is and we're on your small charity a close eye on that i you know you as or psych use round work she to my of cough siren you going to need animal of us to hope a in some us that know what well we can lead to an the the reason why lists helps assam are she's because she seeing the suffering 1st hand i'm plas she does have a fall me you know her rescues grow quite a large area there and wing cancian And what we do which really does help the project is to do shipment twice a year basically everything goes down to Somerset where it's actually loaded for the Can China then obviously goes goes to Sri Lanka It takes about a month to get there but what we try to do is get as many supplies that we really need out there to help save the charity money and what we need the most obviously is food because fading 1600 cats and dogs every day playoff we feed the starving strays in the area because we can't check them all in but if we can just get them a male one meal a day. And it breaks your heart actually because a white fraud to what they know the sound of out to 2 and a white walk in the channels by the roadside haha for buckets of food to arrive so we try to feed them as well so the aim of the shipment is to try to ship as much talking tough food I mean it's mainly dog for example we've got more dogs and cats out that because the dog food is very very expensive they have been eatin food in Sri Lanka I mean we do cook the rice and fish gender you know as the main meal but some of the very sick weak dogs in the disabled dogs we're not to give to 3 meals a day so if we can actually try to ship twice a year some dried food out and some tins because the tins office late last longer so we can get the very sick dogs the critical cases some of the wet food that really does help and we also we also ship some supplies like convalescence a pool convalescence supporters like a complete food for very very sick animals because we get a lot of dogs in with fractured tools so they can't actually ation to we operate so the Qabalistic support is basically a powder it's made by real cannon that you mix it with water and then you can squirt that down with a strange quirk that down this road is a complete nutrients that they need to sustain them to keep them alive. They can to weaken so to build them up to operat
