W M B B C commentary more except I let's hear about the Asian Disability Network right now a disability campaigner says that there needs to be much more support for British self Asians Shanny dunned is from the West Midlands from Warsaw and has set up the Asian Disability Network and Shanny was born with a rare genetic condition osteogenesis imperfecta which is more commonly known as possible owns and he says that not enough changed over the years feel strongly that there needs to be more support more awareness around disability within Asian communities and Shanny is on the line right now Shani a very good evening. Very well thank you and how you tonight thank you let's start the beginning why did you I know I explained a bit there are not enough changed over the years and it's been more support more awareness why did you decide to set up the Asian Disability Network. Well quite simply I'm 31 now get through with this conditional I am way I've never felt represented in society as an Asian woman or with a disabled woman and you know both the 2 of them my encounters how it twist except all identifying yet and still in 2018 then in our representation of that. And you know growing up I didn't have any Well model to look to it was a very isolating time and I don't want the next generation of the children or or adults growing up to be in the same position and I wanted to create at the point of what to whether you are a parent of a child who has an impairment or a condition or you yourself you have a condition PEM or you acquire one you have too much attention and you have you know a group that can support you that might have been through some of the same things as do you. Because as you can imagine disability has a must've negative stigma within Asian communities and I really want to change that . How exactly what exactly does ISIS What is it what provide short so we're current and online on the platform with plans that charged events across the U.K. So as I mentioned really the support network you know so from a growing there's nobody else I could speak to I didn't know one the person in my community that had a disability or looked any different and I'm 310 so I looked every different and I live in a world that isn't designed for me and you know I am very close with my my coach and my ethnicity I think and job a book I was always different and you know as I've grown up of come to to to my time to something really cool enough coming to my own but you know then getting a day hard enough right and then you go to these are the things going on so it's a it's a really it's a tight knit support now what I need to siphon out can spy school. To come and talk because you know generational to choose have read informed the community on how to deal with disability and that isn't necessarily always right and I also feel that service provided by the N.H.S. Don't always understand cultural issues and disability why I get it together yeah that's going on online and it sounds like you have a great network that you set up there as you said for for support and also get Wenna south as well talking of awareness how are things going to change then for the British South Asian community because you saying that not enough really changed over the years in terms of attitudes and I think you know disability you know cost why does so I think it's very awkward to talk about it and I think it's one of the most. All quick characteristics to let people openly talk about gender now where you used to be to be subject so I thought you know disability is definitely having a moment in society brilliant coverage of the Paralympics helps us to have the conversation but we need something more for our own community and I think one of the biggest fire is language so when we look at mental how we don't even have words to describe some conditions right that's the biggest barrier to how you know how we can overcome this if we don't even have the white language so I know we've got a mammoth task going to hand so you know it's more ask about everybody if you want to help if you just want to educate yourself more if you want to be more competent abound you know.
