The next six months, the us will step up. Bill gates talks. That was bill gates, talking to the bbc. We will be hearing about what he has to say a little later in this programme. A signing ceremony takes place at the white house today at which israel will agree to normalise relations with the uae and bahrain. The move, brokered by President Trump, marks a historic shift in relations between israel and the two gulf arab countries. But it comes amid a crisis at home for the israeli leader, as our middle east correspondent tom bateman reports from jerusalem. This deal is delivering its rewards under the desert sun. And adds being filmed near dubai for is really pyjamas. Until now, it would have been impossible. In the uae, boycotting formal tiles with israel. Its very exciting and iam first israel. Its very exciting and i am first to be and i am excited to be the first israeli model to shoot here. We can come here with israeli passports and it is very exciting. But these israelis have other noises to make. For weeks, they have been coming, anti neta nyahu weeks, they have been coming, a nti neta nya hu protesters weeks, they have been coming, anti neta nyahu protesters at hisjerusalem home, anti neta nyahu protesters at his jerusalem home, calling anti neta nyahu protesters at hisjerusalem home, calling on him to quit. What do you think of your Prime Minister . Yeah. We dont know who is it, because it is looking like the country is not managed by no one. It looks like someone is busy with other things. We have a piece with dubai, and it is going very well. We want peace, but we want also piece along our arabs. Israel is deep in an economic and Health Crisis with a second lockdown imminent. This is a picture of the Prime Ministers probably happy to leave it home. Descent, division, there is real anger at his leadership. In washington, he can be the peacemaker, not the problem. This is a big change and a diplomatic achievement for israel, for the emirates and bahrain, trade and new links with the regions security and cyber superpower. A historic breakthrough, says mr netanyahu. Breakthrough, says mr neta nyahu. Compared to breakthrough, says mr netanyahu. Compared to last ce ntu rys netanyahu. Compared to last centurys landmark, us brokered east hours between israel and its arab neighbours. For palestinians, the gulf countries deal with israel is a betrayal. They think it breaks yea rs of betrayal. They think it breaks years of arab solidarity of their dreams of statehood. They go to pray, like hassan. Good iraqis and iranians soon be joining him . The iraqi people area joining him . The iraqi people are a muslim nation. Anybody from around the muslim world has the right to pray could these people be joining has the right to pray could these people bejoining him . President trump will applaud the strategy for the reason and signing session in washington. As mr netanyahu put spencer paper, his troubles at home are also being written into his legacy. Tom bateman, bbc news, jerusalem. President trump has dismissed concerns over Climate Change on a visit to fire ravaged california. Mrtrump again blamed poorForest Management for the blazes, which have killed at least 35 people. Blazes in california, oregon and Washington State have been burning since early august. Our correspondent Aleem Maqbool reports from oregon. It was like a journey into an eerie twilight zone. Few have been allowed here since the fires swept in with such rage. And though most people had scrambled to get out, with whatever they could, it was in this area that lives had also been lost. There were some we found wandering and bewildered, like larry. Ive lost everything except whats in that bag. Everything. And i didnt have insurance. Out of all the hosts had insurance, except for me. What made these fires are so lethal and record breaking is the high winds that came with them accelerating their frightening, destructive passage through vast areas of this state. We keep hearing from those who said they felt they were fleeing for their lives, and its only when youre on the ground and you see the destruction as weve been able to and the warped landscape here, that you start to get a sense of the nightmare that they were running from. Donald trump has been called a climate arsonist by his democratic challenger, joe biden, who blamed Global Warming for all this, but in a visit to california, to be briefed on the fires, the president himself, said the fault lay elsewhere. This is one of the biggest burns we have ever seen and we have to do a lot about Forest Management. Obviously Forest Management in california is very important. There has to be good, strong Forest Management, which i have been talking about for three years with the state so hopefully they will start doing that. This family has just been thinking of survival. We found them in a displacement camp. Theyve now fled fires three times, in three different locations, in the past week. My mom had ten minutes to get out of her place and she got the clothes on her back and the cat and that was it, and her house is completely annihilated, it wiped out everything she owned and. And, you know, thats what we heard, the same with ours. Were not sure as of right now. It was sumers town that id visited earlier. The signs arent good. For all the politics, at the heart of this disaster are hundreds of thousands of americans who faced fear, displacement and loss. Aleem maqbool, bbc news, in gates in oregon. Lets get some of the days other news. Spains Left Wing Coalition government is due to unveil legislation designed to address the legacy of the dictatorship of francisco franco, who ruled spain for 36 years after winning the civil war in 1939. The mayor of the us city of rochester has sacked a police chief and suspended two city officials over the suffocation of a black man arrested in march while suffering a psychotic episode. Tighter coronavirus restrictions are being extended in portugal from today after a sharp rise in infections across the country. The number of people from different households allowed to gather is being halved to ten and the consumption of alcohol in public spaces is banned, as well its sale after 8pm. The portuguese government ordered the changes as daily cases have soared by around 50 to over 600, a level not seen since april. As coronavirus cases rise in the uk, there is an increasing demand for testing. But many people looking for tests cant find available slots to have them. Its not where the British Government hoped to be as the winter approaches, as mark lobel reports. Britains coronavirus testing system is once again under strain. In the uks worst affected covert covid hot spots, some are finding no tests are available. I went online, the system cast. Crashed. Leaving some doctors and nurses just at home, affecting hospital operations and patient visits. Testing lavatories are building up capacity for the winter, but with some tests reportedly being sent to italy and germany for processing. This spike has come a bit earlier than was expected for the winter months. The issue is a lack of capability to perform the analysis in the laboratories, so we analysis in the laboratories, so we might have a bit of a bottleneck with staff and the amount of equipment that is currently being used. The 200,000 tests being carried out daily are not enough, as requests mount up on care homes and as schools and universities return. Ministers have told people not to ask for tests if they do not have symptoms to prevent they do not have symptoms to p reve nt a ny they do not have symptoms to prevent any undue strain on the system. If you have symptoms, come forward and get a test. We are dealing with the problem of people having to travel too far, and we are putting in the extra resources to deal with that. But in contrast to the british policy on testing, anyone in france can get tested for free, whether they have symptoms or night. One deputy mayor in paris who spoke to the bbc, has been encouraging just that. If we only had to test people with symptoms or contacted people, it would be simplerfor sure. Contacted people, it would be simpler for sure. Simpler, but may be more dangerous . Maybe more dangerous. In parts of the straighter, the barrier for testing is much lower, even a hint of mild symptoms or proximity to anyone suspected of having them is enough stop and tests are easy to reach. And in south korea, scientists have been able to identify and isolate asymptomatic cases through mass testing. Boris johnsons pledged to a million tests by october, and eventual testing for those without symptoms, but his mouth rollout plans have been criticised as unrealistic, with prostration at the failure to meet current demand. Mark labelle, bbc news. Mark lobel, bbc news. Here, a proposed law giving borisjohnsons government the power to override parts of the Brexit Agreement with the European Union has passed its first hurdle in the house of commons. Mps voted it through to the next stage with a majority of 77. Ministers say it contains vital safeguards to protect Northern Ireland and the rest of the uk if negotiations on a future trade deal break down. But critics, including a number of conservative mps, warned it risks damaging the uk by breaching international law. And well have more on that story in our Business News in about half an hour, so do stay with us for that. Stay with us on bbc news. Still to come, having fun in a small space the german telephone booth thats been transformed into a mini nightclub. 30 hours after the earthquake that devastated mexico city, rescue teams still have no idea just how many people have died. A state funeral has been held for princess grace of monaco, at the church where she married prince ranier, 26 years ago. It looked as though they had come to fight a war. President trump has dismissed concerns over Climate Change on a visit to fire ravaged california. Mrtrump again blamed poorForest Management for the blazes, which have killed at least 35 people. 26 hong kong democracy activists are to appear shortly in court to face Illegal Assembly charges after participating in hong kongs annual memorial on the Tiananmen Square crackdown. Amongst the defendants are well known figures such asjoshua wong, the owner of apple daily, jimmy lai, and lee cheuk yan, chairman of the alliance in support of patriotic democratic movements of china. We can now speak to mr lee cheuk yan, live from hong kong. Thank you for being on the programme. Just talk us through what will happen today. Thank you for having me. Today the Hong Kong Government is prosecuting us, for me personally holding an Illegal Assembly and also inciting and also participation. So all of us are also participation. So all of us are being now going to appear in court, and what government is now seeking to do, what we heard from our lawyers is they want to tra nsfer lawyers is they want to transfer into the District Court so that the penalty can be heavier. It is very obvious that hong kong is our government are trying to show the loyalty to beijing by, firstly, prosecuting us, which is enduring the fourth this year, the candlelight lighting ofa year, the candlelight lighting of a candle in it should be but not be a crime june four. They want to show loyalty to beijing by prosecuting us, and now seeking a heavier sentence. I think this is a show to the world that the Chinese Communist party is trying to narrow down the freedom that we have enjoyed in the past and total suppression of one country to system, our system of freedom. Now, these Illegal Assembly charges, and you, joshua wong and others are among some 2000 i believe that are being charged and tried on this basis, is this separate to the new security law that was introduced not so long ago . June four happen before the National Security law was passed, but the National Security law shows you that in the future we do not know our condemnation of Tiananmen Square. I party rule and democracy china would be seen as so called subversion under the National Security law. Therefore it is a threat, and forjune four, the candlelight vigil, which we have been doing this for over 30 years, it is very obviously showing to people in hong kong they are not going to tolerate any more defiance, and we are really affected as an organisation and our future of the candlelight vigil in the future that whether they will use it in the future to clamp down on us. Then obviously this time round they are already trying to seek a higher sentence, heavier sentence for those participating in the candlelight vigil, and we want to condemn the massacre, which we have been doing for 30 yea rs. We have been doing for 30 years. What do you think will be happening to you, joshua wong and others who are facing these charges today . wong and others who are facing these charges today . I think it would be very naive to believe that we can so called get away with participation or holding a meeting because they use the covid i9 to ban a rally and we still come out to light a candle, which we believe we are of course exercising our constitutional right. The problem with now in hong kong, the prosecutor is really trampling on constitutional right on people to express freely, and so we are not optimistic, maybe it will be inevitable in the centre, national future, but we still continue to hope. All right. Inaudible, we have the right to do that and we have the right to condemn the Tiananmen Square massacre. Antifa being on bbc world news and we would keep a close eye on what happens today. Thank you for being on bbc world news. Bill gates has told the bbc hes confident the United States will step up in the fight against coronavirus. He admits his country has made mistakes but believes progress can still be made. He also addressed the increasingly thorny issue of a vaccine. Hes been telling the bbcs larry madowo about the impact of covid i9. So the pandemic has reduced food distribution, raised prices of food, you cant move around and seek out Economic Opportunities in the same way. And so its a gigantic setback that represents over five years of progress. The first time that that number has gone up since it has been seriously measured. Lets talk about vaccines. Already, some of the richest countries, like the us, like the uk, lots of other western european nations are already putting in money so they are first in line when a vaccine becomes available. Is this the best way to handle this . Well, the vaccine work, the r d piece, including the expensive trials, the rich countries, particularly the us, have funded that work for a lot of these companies, and so if the companies who are doing it on a break even basis, they can afford to do it because of that us and other money. For the research side, that is good news. For getting the money to buy the vaccine, for the poorer countries, that has not yet coming together. The us hasntjoined those meetings, even though its normally with hiv and polio and so many things the leader in Global Health. And so, as yet, we still have to pull that together, and here, of course, there is this huge benefit, even though the rich countries, that the epidemic wont keep coming back. So the plan to have lots of factories and the plan of how we allocate it, including money for procurement for the poor countries, that is still, despite some good work by europe and others, we still dont have enough to support that basic need. Is this surprising to you, though . Because President Trump has always been about america first, and he has pulled out of the World Health Organization in the middle of a pandemic, and he has been more recently talking about how well the us has handled this compared to any other nation. Would you agree . Well, the us has made a lot of mistakes. You would expect it to have the least deaths and we are among the worst, because of what happened with the diagnostics and the way that we let it come in without having lots of testing and quarantine. So whatever we have done wrong today, you can still see were the country with the longest wait time for the tasks, that really shouldnt be the case. But the Us Congress Allocates the money, and they have maintained the money for all the Global Health activities malaria, polio, hiv. And, so as i talked to the congress, i think there are a lot of people in both parties who think that having i of a supplemental bill care of this international response, which is humanitarian, its strategic, but also, from a purely selfish point of view, thats the way that you bring this to a close. So i do think at some point, you know, here in the next six months, the us will step up. It has such a great, proud tradition of helping in Global Health. The distractions of the domestic challenge of the epidemic have made it slower to do that than i would have expected, but the congress, you know, they care and they like the two organisations that would make sure this money is well spent. Alright. Finally, theres been a lot of misinformation around this covid period, including about you. Theres a lot of conspiracy theories that are getting shared around. What you make of that . I dont know. Im worried about those rumours. I am surprised to find myself, as a big supporter of vaccines saving lives, to sort of being attacked from almost the opposite of that. Ourfoundation, our proudest work is the number of children who are alive today, tens of millions, because of the Vaccine Coverage that weve been a partner in increasing in every country of the world. Bill gates there. The coronavirus pandemic has devastated the night life of cities all over the world. In some places, pubs and restaurants have partially reopened, but most nightclubs are still shut. Thats certainly true in berlin, but there may be an opportunity for people to express themselves on a very small dance floor as the bbcs tim allman explains. Benjamin isa benjamin is a man with a plan. In that plan takes the shape of a dozen no longer in Service Telephone booths. He calls it the telly disco. One square metre of your entertainment. Translation the price for one night is 1500 euros. It is a business that makes people happy. For the princely sum of 2 euros per person, you can dance the night away. Well, for a few minutes at least. Throwing shapes, cutting a rug and generally having a good time as long as you dont suffer from claustrophobia. Time as long as you dont suffer from claustrophobiam is super. It is great. The best thing i know. Translation we can party any time. More than one person is allowed inside at one time stop it seems to fly in the face of social distancing somewhat. For a bit too much for some. Translation once i got stuck in there, it took a minute to open up. It is terrifying for now, there are only a handful of telediscos, but in the age of telediscos, but in the age of covid 19, it creates an escape one phone booth at a time. Tim allman, bbc news. They have it. All the innovative ideas coming through in response to covid 19, the pandemic. We will have more on that in our business coverage covering up around four minutes time. The latest on brexit of course, but also i will be talking to the chief executive of the company in discussions right now. All that to come in a few minutes. Hello there. We had the warmest september day on monday since 2016. For many, it was a case of blue sky and sunshine. It was a beautiful september afternoon. Why am i showing you jersey . Well, it was jersey that had the top spot with 31 degrees. Not far behind was charlwood in surrey. That was the highest temperature across mainland uk, with london hot on its heals with 29 celsius. And the reason being, this area of High Pressure centred across europe thats allowing this southerly flow to drag in some very warm air all the way from africa. So were seeing temperatures unusually high for the time of year, but things will change subtly as we go into tuesday with weak weather fronts bringing some showery outbreaks of rain to start the day. Its going to be a relatively mild start, however. Double digits quite widely across the country. But there will be some rain, not the heavy, persistent rain that we have seen, and it will weaken as we go through the afternoon a little. More cloud into south west england, maybe south wales and north west england. Cant rule out an odd isolated shower as we go into the afternoon. But we keep, for many of us, dry, settled, sunny conditions, light winds and plenty of warmth to go with it. Temperatures again quite widely mid to high 20s. We might see 30 degrees perhaps nearer to east anglia through tuesday afternoon. Things changing again, though, as we go through the middle part of the week. It stays largely dry. Theres no significant rain in the forecast, but it will turn noticeably cooler. That is because High Pressure will stay with us, but its going to be centred across the north of scotland, and as the winds swing around in a clockwise direction, that means more of a north or north easterly over the next couple of days, and that means a notable difference to the feel of the weather in scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England and, in particular, along those north sea facing coasts. So that could drag in a few isolated showers and maybe even some mist and fog. Here, temperatures 13 to 17 degrees. Head further south, though, we mightjust see those temperatures peaking at 25 celsius thats 77 fahrenheit. High pressure is not going too far away at all. Another high moves in, keeping things very quiet indeed, but noticeably cooler as we go through the week. So no significant rain in the forecast, but temperatures perhaps falling down to where they should be for this time of year. Take care. This is bbc news with the latest business headlines for viewers in the uk and around the world. The Trump Administration raises the pressure on huawei, by restricting its access to us products. The backlash of arm holdings 40 billion takeover by American Firm nvidia continues well be speaking to the boss of the uk chipmaker to find out why the deal makes sense. And a unique business with a creative payment structure. Well be hearing from the new start up which is paying its staff in shares rather than cash. Lets start with latest on the trade war between washington and beijing, with the Trump Administration increasing the pressure on chinese tech giant huawei. From today, companies around the world will have to stop shipping products to huawei if they contain Us Technology. Those that want to carry on selling, will need a licence to do so from americas commerce department. This is because washington believes huawei is a National Security risk. Lets go to our Asia Business hub in singapore, where Sharanjit Leyl has more on this story for us. Well, thats right, sally. You pretty much set it. It is the worlds biggest maker of mobile phones and telecoms equipment. It has had its fortunes foiled by the Trump Administration. Essentially, starting today, huawei wont be able to access components that have Us Technology in them, it wont be able to buy these from anyone, including non American Firms. This covers all sorts of things that are really vital to huaweis businesses, like semiconductor chips, the camera lenses, displays for top selling mobile phones, even printed circuit boards. Huawei has actually been stockpiling all kinds of chip inventory is, essentially, we are told, since the end of 2018 inventory is, but it isnt known how well stocked they are and how they continue to churn out the products, based on what they have got. Analysts suggest someone have got. Analysts suggest someone that could look too low and alternative components, but that would make their fathers competitive and far less high performance. We know this trade and Technology Battle has come in part due to huaweis so called links to the chinese state, even though its founder, ren zhengfei has denied any of huaweis technology could be used to the Chinese Governments advantage. Those National Security concerns have long bothered the us, and those tensions have escalated even further under president donald trump. We know it got a lot worse after huaweis cfo, when onejoke was worse after huaweis cfo, when one joke was arrested in canada, the ceos daughter wang found joe. All of this is leading to a lot of concerns and really suggestions that huawei was my days as the Worlds Largest wylies days as the Worlds Largest loan and telecoms maker could be over. The latest on the battle between washington and china. Lets take a quick look at how the asian markets are faring. Australia is at the top, pretty much flat. Hong kong, up 0. 5 , japan down 0. 6 . In terms of focus for market watchers this week in. The fed is meeting, the Us Central Bank will start its two day meeting from today. They will be having people listening about the future of growth in the worlds biggest economy. Quite a big week for markets this week. Lets talk about technology. Us tech firm oracle has confirmed that tiktoks owner has formally proposed it become a trusted Technology Partner to the video sharing app. Full details of the tie up have yet to be disclosed, but the aim is to avoid President Trumps threat to shut down the chinese owned service in the us, over National Security concerns. We have a theme here, havent we . Joining me now from new york is daniel ives, whos the managing director of wedbush securities. Does oracle have it in the bag . Given the choices, microsoft was only there with the algorithm was only going to buy this with the algorithm. And a partnership with oracle is the only option, otherwise the plug gets pulled on tiktok in the us. Why do you think that oracle is going to come through . I think it wasjust microsoft and oracle. Microsoft wa nted microsoft and oracle. Microsoft wanted this as an acquisition with the algorithm. Once the Chinese Government is about of the table, it was really a partnership with oracle, that was the only choice. Now it is threading the needle, because you need approval notjust in the us, but one on the board as well that beijing approves of as well. I think right now they are backed against the wall and within the next 48 hours, that is key to get this deal done and green lighted by the us white house. And what would this bring forward oracle if it went ahead. Its a feather in the cup, sort of a crown in terms of the cloud backbone. And helps them get more deals as they go against microsoft stop it really comes down to its a quagmire. For the us, they recognise they cannot be sold in terms of tiktok. A partnership with oracle critical the boxes in terms of National Security issues and essentially be a big brother making sure there is no backdoor data to beijing. And for the white house, is this a win from their perspective . think it is a partial win. I think it is a partial win. I think it is also a partial win for china, because at the last minute, by then putting those export rules, that basically stopped tiktok from being sold. And i think by dance is a winner as well, bytedance, making sure teams and tweens can still access tiktok. Lets get some of the days other news. Staying with tensions between the us and china, washington has ordered border officials to block shipments of clothing, computer parts and other products made at select locations in Chinas Xinjiang region. The move is the latest by the Trump Administration to put pressure on china over its treatment of xinjiangs uighur muslims. The us said the sites use forced labour. The german car maker daimler, which owns mercedes benz, has agreed to pay 1. 5 billion to resolve Us Government claims that it designed its diesel vehicles to cheat air pollution tests. The firm was investigated for installing software to evade emissions laws in 250,000 mercedes cars and vans. Daimler called the deal an important step towards resolving diesel proceedings, but denied the claims. Lets now talk about a major takeover deal from monday, which saw uk based computer Chip Designer Arm Holdings being sold to the American Graphics chip specialist nvidia for 40 billion. Nvidia has promised to keep the business based in the uk, to hire more staff, and to retain arms brand. However, arms co founder, hermann hauser, described the deal as an absolute disasterfor cambridge, the uk, and europe. Were now joined from california by the ceo of arm holdings, simon segars. Simon, thank you for being on the programme. My pleasure. There is a lot of concern about this sale of arm from softbank to nvidia. Wejust mentioned the co founder and his comments. What you have to say to reassure people that arm will remain in cambridge . Well, i think before we actually announce the deal, onlyjust yesterday, about 29 hours now since we announced the deal. There has been a lot of speculation about what might happen. And the actual intent, all sorts of conclusions were being drawn. Since we made the announcement, what we have been doing is being able to tell the story, what the intent is, what we do plan to do, and i think what we have is a very strong selling plan that will see Arms Technology being enhanced, the Business Model being maintained, and growth in cambridge being sustained, and a number of exciting investments that nvidia are planning to make into cambridge and the uk. But promises and reassu ra nces and the uk. But promises and reassurances from you and also from those in charge at nvidia are very different to a legally binding document that commits nvidia to keeping on holdings, its headquarters and jobs in cambridge. Why you not pushing for a legally binding commitment . I think there is again, a bit of a misconception, that it would be impossible to sayjust shut down operations in cambridge, lift up on a friday and start in some other location on a monday. Our business, our technology and the way we develop it does not lend itself to that kind of movement. Our company has been built up over 30 years now. There is an enormous amount of knowledge ingrained in the heads of the people that work for us in the way we develop things. Our whole approach towards design. Its not something you can replicate somewhere else. In 2016, when softbank acquired arm, those legally binding commitments were made. Nvidia is making very strong commitments to the uk and is very happy to sit down with whoever in the government to put that into some form of framework. We are 29 hours in, discussions are starting, but we evolved plans. If you had a legally binding commitment from nvidia, maybe it would result in an easier process in terms of uk competition regulation in terms of what europe thinks about this . You say softbank had to do that in 2016. That commitment is ending in september 2021, only 12 months away. Just give us your take on your thoughts on being owned by aus your thoughts on being owned by a Us Technology company in the midst of this difficult relationship between china and the us, when it comes to technology, just my two top stories today about highway and tiktok stories today about highway and tiktok huawei. How to remain independent in this war between the us and china when it comes to technology . Picking up on your first to technology . Picking up on yourfirst point, to technology . Picking up on your first point, the to technology . Picking up on yourfirst point, the original offer on the table made by softbank has allowed nvidia to run and we are completely committed to fulfilling obligations made. We will be hiring hundreds of more engineers due our facilities across the uk. In terms of a future of arm and nvidia and i think its an exciting proposition. This is a company we have known and worked with for a very long time. These are not two strangers coming together. In light of covid 19, it could only happen because of the death of the relationships we all have. We have been focused on generating Computing Technology and licensing its as well. The values in the technology we have, the engineering talent we have, and our Business Model. An given that nvidia are paying 40 billion to acquire this business, that be a lot of value to disprove by changing the Business Model, and itjust doesnt make any sense. Great. So as ceo, it is my role to ensure customers will be satisfied that we will be able to operate the business in a neutral way, and i am very confident we are going to be doing that. All right, simon segars, thank you for doing that. Chief executive of arm, holdings. I wish we had more time to discuss the economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic has sent a shock wave through the finances of millions of families across the uk. An estimated 730,000 jobs have been lost since lockdown, and many of those made redundant are now claiming benefits for the first time to cover the Household Bills as they search for new employment. Our Business Correspondent sarah corker has been speaking to a family, where both parents are now out of work with children to support. So, how close is this to the city centre . Life of this family has dramatically changed. About there. Both pa rents, changed. About there. Both parents, michael and karen, lost theirjobs in retail in the east midlands. They have moved back to liverpool, where they were originally from, to look for work. Today they are helping daughter isabella moved into a student house for her final year at university. Of three know the months ahead will be tough. , this is the first time i have ever been without a job. That in itself was a whole new experience in terms of getting used to. You remain optimistic, but it gets tough. It gets really hard. Michael has 20 Years Experience as a senior retail buyer. His furloughing in march, redundant in july, buyer. His furloughing in march, redundant injuly, so far he has applied for 65 rollers. How challenging has it been looking for a job at the moment . You begin to question yourself and say ok, i have my passion for what i do, i have a lot of experience, do i need to retrain . Ami lot of experience, do i need to retrain . Am i in the wrong industry . I cant afford to sit and wait back for his two stabilised to the degree where thejobs stabilised to the degree where the jobs start stabilised to the degree where thejobs start coming stabilised to the degree where the jobs start coming again. I may need to go do something entirely different. Isabella is facing a different challenge. Searching for part time work in bars and searching for part time work in bars a nd restau ra nts searching for part time work in bars and restaurants as she studies. Just over the last couple of months, i mean i was applying for 2 3 barjobs a day, just hospitality websites and you might hear back from one or two of them and then even then they cannot guarantee the hours. They arejust, you know, there is nothing really there for us. One of my biggest concerns for isabella is i cannot financially support her in the way i have been doing. And you talked a bit about savings only last so long, you are now having to navigate the benefits system. Yes. And that has been quite stressful. We will need to start to apply for benefits. We have never claimed benefits. We have never claimed benefits in the whole of our life, not even the child benefit. So, you know, you try to deal with it day to day. There is no one to talk to anymore. I found that so distressing. It took us one hour to nine someone to explain what the differences were. And as the furlough scheme ends in october, recruiter is one of a second wave of job october, recruiter is one of a second wave ofjob losses. It is not coronavirus a proposed law giving the uk government the power to override parts of the Brexit Agreement with the eu has passed its first hurdle in the commons. Mps backed the internal market bill by 340 votes to 263. Ministers say it contains vital safeguards to protect Northern Ireland and the rest of the uk if negotiations on a future trade deal break down. Were nowjoined by laura foll whos a fund manager at Janus Henderson investors. Good morning, laura. Nice to see you. It has got through the first hurdle as it were. There is more to come in the house of commons on this. Give us your ta ke commons on this. Give us your take on this latest twist in the brexit story. I think it was largely expected that vote would go last night so i would expect too much of a Market Reaction this morning. But what ido reaction this morning. But what i do think is that you are starting to see the shift of the market back to brexit having being understandably very much on coronavirus for much of this year. Brexit associations as they come to a head are starting to get the market potentially and you have seen market potentially and you have seen for example stirling weakened slightly over the last week or two is the focus shifts back. And as his political argument goes on in the commons but also in brussels as well and ireland, the public of ireland the republic of ireland, do you think those working in Financial Markets have to think about now that there will be a no deal on the 3ist there will be a no deal on the 31st of december . I think most commentators think, agree there isa commentators think, agree there is a chance of no deal, but it is a chance of no deal, but it isa is a chance of no deal, but it is a majority minority chance. It is generally seen a deal is in both sides interests and particularly at a time, your piece before me talked about the economic fallout from coronavirus author when we get to the end of the transition period at the end of december, unemployment is likely to be rising here and in europe with economies on both sides of the channel having a very difficult time. Given it is in both sides interest is secure a deal, that is what i assume and that is what the market assume will likely happen. That is not to say there is no chance of a no deal but there is less than 50 of good to talk to you. Thank you for getting up so early. Really appreciated. When you are starting up a business and cash is tight, how do you pay your staff . One app maker, called blueheart, offered to pay them with shares in the new firm rather than salaries. As the ceo of blueheart explains, this got the firm through the critical first few months until it could afford the wage bill. At the start, when you have got no Financial Resources, how on earth do you get people to work for you . And for us, that was given people shares in our business. When you start, you want people, you do not necessarily have the Financial Resources to compete with what they are getting elsewhere, and so people are getting extra incentives. Giving somebody a percentage of your company so that as the company succeeds in growth, the rewards they get is in the percentage ownership of the company. From our early product, we were super successful, and in six months, we raised £8 million, and so we have gone from zero salaries to small salaries are close to market salaries in about a year, and we will continue that success in the future. The Technology Sector is where this is most appropriate, and the reason it is because the growth part of the debt company is super exponential. It will go very good very fast, and infotech is kind of the perfect space for that. Many of those are on our website to look at. September is usually the time for a wardrobe refresh. But for the fashion industry, everything has changed. The coronavirus pandemic has moved Fashion Shows online and sent collections into storage for another year. New York Fashion Week is now under way with no celebrities jostling for position on the front row of the catwalk. In fact, some of the big designers have also stayed away. With retail in crisis, why carry on with the Fashion Shows at all . Were nowjoined from new york by dominc madori davis whos the luxury reporter at business insider. Lovely to talk to you. Should fashion go ahead . I think eve ryo ne fashion go ahead . I think everyone is really seeing now if perhaps digital might be best, but also, i mean, nothing can really replace in person shows, and so i think now people are starting to experiment to see if this pandemic does go on for a few more months, even years, can this be a viable industry still . How concerned are the big names in fashion about the current pandemic, and how are they being impacted . The pandemic has impacted pretty much every single step of the supply chain. It is a very, very big issue in terms of even from where you get the products to importing, exporting. When the pandemic hit, the factor is shut down, people should not get products, people could not produce things, and so this is a very, very serious issue, and especially as we see Different Countries handling it differently, like a luxury rebound in china, has that rebound in china, has that rebound hitting the United States yet . We have to see. There is numerous factors into this and i think everyone is really just watching to this and i think everyone is reallyjust watching to see how this unfolds. Absolutely. We will keep a close eye. Thank you for being on the programme, live from new york. And thank you as well for your company, and wraps up the show. I will see you very and wraps up the show. I will see you very soon. And wraps up the show. I will see you very soon. Bye bye. Take care. Good morning welcome to breakfast with Louise Minchin and dan walker. Our headlines today testing times Health Leaders say nhs services could be at risk because staff cant access coronavirus screenings. Those living in parts of the West Midlands are banned from visiting other homes as new restrictions come into force. How many more people are out of work . How many more are claiming benefits . The latest unemployment figures are out in an hour and will tell us how things have changed for millions of families. But how much are Government Support schemes masking the true picture . Never has so much been owed
