Hacklers singled him out. House republicans havent even called the bill. They wont even take a vote on the bill. They, they dont have enough energy or organization or i dont know what to just even vote no on the bill. [ laughter ] and then they are mad at me for trying to do things to make the immigration system work better. So it doesnt, it doesnt make sense. So im sorry, what are you yelling about now . Sit down, guys, im almost done. Come on. Sit down. Ill talk to you afterwards, i promise. Ill bring it back. Im wrapping things up here. I understand. So, see, everybody will start, im on your side, man, sit down, well talk about it later. Unclear what the hacklers wanted, harsh words from john boehner. Hes been president for 5. 5 years, when will he take responsibility for something . The kids keep coming, gary tuchman has been following some of them on their journey, reporting you wont see anywhere else. This is what he saw today. Reporter i want to give you a look here to give you an idea how open this is. There are police here. There are police all over here and nobody minds people are going across the river from here in guatemala into mexico. You can see this family of three, a mother, father and their little boy, they told me a short time ago, they are getting ready to go on the raft. The rafts are made of huge inner tubes and they will go from guatemala to mexico and hoping to get into the United States. Thats from yesterday, not today. Thats garys remarkable reporting we showed you last night where police tolerate the flow of my grants out of gut mall la. Thats the boarder between guatemala and mexico. Right above what happens to be a heavily used unofficial crossing, gary . Reporter anderson, i stand right now in mexico where its absolutely pouring rain. A torrential storm right now and this is the boarder marker, mexico, guatemala. I take a step and im one time zone behind and in another country. This is el carmen guatemala. This is an official boarder station where it is pouring now and where its done by the book, but if you want to cross guatemala into mexico not by the book, all you have to do is literally go below. Many people legally cross between guatemala and mexico, this is the guatemala side, the other side of the bridge is the nation of mexico. Most people do not have documentation to go from one country to the other, including the people that want to end up in the United States. So what they do is something youll not see between the United States and mexico or the United States and canada for that matter, not miles away, hours away, right next to the legal crossing, here are people walking across this river to get from guatemala to mexico. They walk, they swim, they also take rafts to illegally cross and what is amazing is nobody at the boarder station, the mexican officials or the guatemala officials seem to mind. They just let them cross. It happens all day. Were going to give you a look, go under this bridge to the raft area and show you what happens. Where you can legally cross, this is where you illegally cross under this boarder station. This is the raft and the inner tube, wood, we paid our 10, the equivalent of 1. 30. Well go along the trip. Hello. I go with you . [speaking foreign language]. Reporter what you should know is these people, they tell us they are not planning to go to the United States. They just want to go to mexico. You ready . Okay. Everyone here is quiet and you got to duck your head say so you dont get decapitated by the rope and we crossed the International Boundary and were in the nation of mexico. What happens when people get here who eventually want to get to the United States, this is standard, they climb on the rocks and trails and pathers and shelters. So many people that want to begin their voyage will stay. This is the easy part. People are very friendly. It costs almost nothing. To get to the United States boarder could take weeks, if successful and many cases they are not successful. For many people this is the beginning of the journey. This is the trail that guatemala, honduras, rocky, jungle like, steep at spots. The people in our boat, its not clear where they were going. Nobody wanted to tell us they were going to the United States. Some swore they were staying here in mexico. You never know. Once owe get into mexico, Serious Business begins and you have to look for shelter, help to get into the United States. Its watery, old people, young people navigating this, trying to make their way into the town of mexico. By the way, they used to over the river have zip lines like you see in recreational places. They were taken down by the Mexican Government not because its illegal but it wasnt safe. People were getting hurt, sometimes killed when the zip lines collapse. Once people get up the trail into the town, they figure out how to get to the shelters to continue their Journey Towards the u. S. Boarder. So these vans go directly to a town 20 minutes from here where there are shelters, where they can get advice, food and health care and you can see the people on the bus here [speaking foreign language] they are all going to mexico. [speaking foreign language]. Reporter he says hes going to the United States. Anyone else . [speaking foreign language]. Reporter the bus is leaving. If they are going to the United States, they dont want to tell us. [speaking foreign language]. Reporter but the door is reopened, more people journeying north. Gary, the point you left those people, they have around 16 00 miles left to travel. How do they make it the rest of the way . Reporter what many of these immigrants do, anderson is head three hours away from here. Its in spanish called the beast because it literally is beastly a freight train. They ride in between the cars. Its dangerous. They hop on while its going, hop off while its going. Many injured and many end up being killed and thats where they are heading, many of these people now. The train as of this moment is derailed. There is a problem with it. There is hundreds of immigrants waiting, hoping to hop on for a ride up to the United States when it starts going again. Anderson . Gary tuchman, appreciate it. Get out of the rain. A dangerous way many kids make it north. The risks are many as gary mentioned. Derailments like today but there is just one danger as there is not just one danger i should say as our carl found out when he rode the train. Reporter some calm it the beast, to others its the train of death. But to all these Illegal Migrants its a dream to wash dishes. We work, if youre born over there your life will be different, youre going to work in an office, go to a nice high school, go to a nice college, you know. I dont think were stealing their money or their jobs, you know. Reporter like most from Central American countries like guatemala and honduras, thigh will spend days clinging to cargo trains as they grind through southern mexico up towards the u. S. Boarder. Human Rights Groups estimate thousands have died falling from trains like this, some of them mutilated under the wheels. In route to the u. S. Boarder, many more have been robbed, raped, and kidnapped. The mexican authorities do little to prevent them riding, or to detour gangs from praying on them. So when i caught up with this group of migrants in southern mexico, i wondered why they were ready to sacrifice so much. Its really the american dream, you can make money and live better, help your people over here. Reporter he once worked in the u. S. Before being jailed on a drug and drunk driving charge and deported. I want to do things right this time and i dont want to get in trouble again. Yeah, were trying it. I dont think im a bad person. Reporter by next morning, hope has become apprehension as they wait by the tracks. Some smoke a marijuana joint to calm their nerves. I scramble onto the train, i tie myself on for safety. I got off at an unscheduled stop a few hours later, but i heard the train arrived without incident in the town. Its been a tough 12hour ride to get here, but the migrants face many more days of travel to get at the u. S. Boarder. This man has been giving migrants a free bed and meal for the last five years. Better experience tells him they will press on despite the risks rather than go home to poverty. [speaking foreig [speaking foreign language]. Translator it never ends but im sure they are going to make history. They are going to rebuild america. Reporter before they make that history or achieve their own more modest dreams, these poor migrants must first during vooif the train of death. Its extraordinary to see young kids, people of all ages packed on the train. What is it like to ride it and be on it . Youve ridden the ruoute severa times . Yeah, i have and every time it is terrifying. Its terrifying for a number of reasons. First you have to jump the train and for undocumented migrants and the safest time is when its actually started to move. That way they are not going to get hassled by police or by rail way workers as they try to jump the cargo train and that itself is a feet because the migrants will tell you how they run alongside the train, get ahold of the railings and sometimes they feel this piece of air that drags them underneath. You see a lot of migrants jumping the trains but certain key points along the route, there are migrant hostiles, migrants mutilated who have lost a leg or both legs or an arm because they have fallen under the train and then of course, one of the biggest problems and that is gangs. The guy we heard from in your piece, hes ridden the train many times and hes not the only one. There is a lot of people who have done that. There are a lot of people there. In 2010 when i was talking to people familiar with the situation, they say 30 of the migrants trying to get back to the u. S. Are returning. They may have arrived from the u. S. And been deported and trying to get back again. This guy elvin, i stayed in touch with him since 2010, facebook, the occasional phone call, hes ridden the train again another four times. He has a number of reasons to get back into the yiunited stat. He has a family in the United States. He has a baby girl. Hes desperate to get back to see her and hes wanting to earn cash to send back to his family in guatemala. Incredible story. Thanks. Quick reminder, make sure to set your dvr and watch 360 whenever youd like. What rick perry is saying about the claim the Obama Administration may have manufactured the climb about the crisis and visiting the boarder, may be a photo opportunity. Last night we talked about politics, we showed president obama complaining about political post touring and defending his kedecision not to visit the boarder and Texas Governor rick perry there with the president yesterday who once defended using tax money to educate undocumented kids hinting at conspiracy theory. Tonight in our keeping them honest report, a look at the president s distan for photo ops and he cant provide evidence for. I want to start with the governor. This was him last month talking about the boarder crisis and in his mind a possible, just possible reason for recent influx of undocumented immigrants. You either have an incredibly inapt administration or they are in on this somehow or another. How do you move that many people from Central America across mexico and then in to the United States without there being a fairly court nad t lly coordina . We just showed you, a train. A conspiracy to bring about a situation thats done little for administration except make it look pretty bad. In any case, governor perry offered no facts to back up that hint of conspiracy, not then, not ever. However he did Say Something with kate baldwin that aired this morning on new day. On this latest crisis, i have to ask you governor you said last Month Administration on this issue was incredibly inapt or in on this somehow, after your meeting with the president , which one is it, governor . I dont know. Thats the reason i asked that question a month ago is why havent we had any more action out of this administration . And, you know, again, the president has come to texas. The president was grace shows and allowed me to give him my insight on this and i appreciate that but the fact is, he still hasnt acted. Actions are really important in this process. But words are important here, as well, as youre saying as you think republicans believe the president s words in talking about the dream act previously, that has sent the wrong message to Central America. So words do matter in this debate. Do you really honestly believe as you said in the interview last month that the administration might be in on this somehow . Youre suggesting there is some kind of conspiracy here. No, what im suggesting is that this administration and their words and their actions or the lack thereof are part of the problem. I think youre putting the words of conspiracy in my mouth, which i did not say. No, you actually said the word i hate to be conspiratorial. And i hate to be conspiratorial. I hate to be conspiratorial. I did not say i was. All right. Let me just explain how this works. In english when you say i hate to make unfounded accusations but it means youre making an unfounded acquisition or i hate to make up stories i cant back up but it means youre making up a story you cant back up. That seems to be the case. The president , his explanation for not going to the boarder, listen. There is nothing taking place down there that i am not intimately aware of and briefed on. This isnt theater. This is a problem. Im not interested in photo ops, im interested in solving a problem. So what is strange about that is much of what the president does is create yeah photo ops. He does it on the campaign trail and as president of the United States. In fact, earlier on that trip, on the trip he was on, he had a photo op at a pool table in denver and thats just one of them, take a look. The president meeting with regular folks in regular places. Those are photo ops. He does plenty of them. Some are goofy, some selfserving, some political. Others for more than that. President rallying the people who put a pan man on the moon and calling on the soviet union to tear down the wall and sending a message to the perpetrators of 9 11 and this president comforting survivors. You can call each and every one of them photo ops. None of them had to go to the locations. Regan could have spoken from the oval office, bush from the situration room, president obama could send the fema director, they like all president s knew being there, simply being there would focus attention on something that deserved attention in a way that only the president s can. Joining us is henry and documentary film maker of undocumented which area on cnn. Congressman, you said this will be the president s katrina moment. Is that how you see his trip to your state and was it a big mistake for him not to go to the board sn boarder . First of all, leaders will handle a crisis different, this is certainly a humanitarian crisis. I talked to the young kids coming across. When you talk to somebody like a 9yearold from honduras for 14yearold from el salvador and you see the pain and the hunger and the fear that they have in their faces, i think somebody should take a personal look at that. Number two, you know, certainly we got to thank the boarder patrol for doing a great job and my area is a very poor community. Its a boarder community. We dont have a lot of money but the churches and nonprofits have been working so hard to provide humanitarian care and leaders should be able to see this firsthand. Congressman, i understand someone from the white house called you up angry you were criticizing the president publicly. What did they say . Well, let me put it this way, i thought we had a very constructive positive conversation. Im still calling for the president to come down to the boarder. Apparently he didnt do it on this visit but the door is open for him to go down there. My community leaders, my churches and other folks have asked me why did the president not come down to the boarder . Thats all im asking. Im not asking for anything else, come down to the boarder and just see it for yourself. If its not important, then why is he not why is he asking us for 3. 7 billion of help . I want to be supportive of the president on that funding. I got to push you. Can you give any detail, i know you dont want to say who called you, did they yell at you . You said it was constructive dialogue. Clearly, they are not happy at you being on television talking out. Can you say anything they said . Well, you know, let me put it this way, they are very smart. They will not yell at a member of congress. There
