I think they were probably a little bit more than two times. The first quid pro quo is when we met with president proshen co. Former president. The former president. What was your message . That if he would make the announcement that he would get trump would either invite him to the white house or make a statement for him but basically wed start supporting him for, you know that was the first quid pro quo, he can come to the white house, get a meeting with trump, if he announces an investigation. Correct. What was the next one . You have to understand, because this was a transition time, he was zelensky just won, he was president elect. And he the most the number one thing on their agenda was not even the transition, it was to get the inauguration because it was a big thing. To show the american backing of the new administration . Of course. He had no strength. Russia, i mean giuliani cancels his visit because theres a lot of bad publicity about it in the United States, you go have the meeting with the high level official in zelenskys circle. Whats the message you deliver. I told him very strict and very stern that several things, a, that he needed to make zelensky needed to immediately make an announcement that night or within the next 24 hours that they were opening up an investigation on biden. At that point was there any mention of withholding of aid . Well, if they didnt make the announcement there would be no relationship, not just it was no specific military, there was no way there was going to be assisted, pence wouldnt be at the inauguration and no visit to the white house, there would be basically, no communication. So how you told the top official in the zelensky inner circle fw they did not announce an investigation of the bidens immediately and get rid of some folks around zelensky who they believed were opposed to President Trump, that there wouldnt be any aid and Vice President pence would not even come to the inauguration. Correct. And what happened . What did they say . I called, rudy told him i dont think theres going to be an announcement and he said, okay, theyll see. Theyll see. Theyll see. And what happened the next day . I got called and said that they got a call from them basically they found out that pence is not going to be there, he got cancelled, they said that there was a scheduling problem or something. The day after you delivered that message. Correct. On the quid pro quo. Monday the 13th. And then after that, like i think on the 16th or the 15th, i dont remember the exact dates, they had because they were flipping out what to do, they didnt want to be embarrassed, they didnt know if anybody at all was going to show up, you know, but they knew pence wasnt coming, trump wasnt coming. How did you have the authority to say the Vice President of the United States will not attend the inauguration if you dont do what i say . I mean, thats what i was told to do. Who told you to do that . Rudy giuliani. This letter that you gave to the house, the first line in it, a letter from Rudy Giuliani to president elect zelensky says im private counsel to donald j. Trump, i represent him as a citizen, not as president of the United States. Quite common. President and private citizen are not the same. Hes making a very clear point that hes not representing the interests of the United States at large of American National security hes representing the interests of donald j. Trump. That was always the point. That was always made. That was always clear, he doesnt represent wherever we went he said i dont represent the government. I represent the president of the United States. So anything Rudy Giuliani wanted the government of ukraine to do that wasnt official u. S. Policy, that was a personal benefit to the president of the United States. Well, you know, when i was doing it i thought it was all and the same, but obviously now i can see what the situation, the way it is it was strictly for him but again i thought he was the our leader, hes the chief, hes the president and it was all about 2020 to make sure he had another four years and that is thats not how you personally viewed it, this is about 2020, to help him get the next four years . That was the way everybody viewed it. I mean, there was that was the most important thing is for him to stay on for another four years and keep the fight going. I mean, there was no other reason for doing it. Did the president care about corruption in ukraine . Youd have to ask him but as far as i know, the only thing we carri cared about, and we were the team, was to get zelensky or somebody to make the press release, an announcement into the biden investigation. Giuliani told cbs news that he never attempted to dig up dirt on political opponents, only gathering evidence to help in the defense against mueller and for impeachment. I think the mueller case was over already when he was doing that. Youre saying the president knew what you were doing. The president knew everything i was doing. How do you know that . Because i was with rudy every day, he spoke to him every day. You were with him when he spoke to the president on the phone. I was with rudy every day, i was on the phone with him every day. Ask the house congress, they have my records. I dont think my records would be in the impeachment unless they validated and proved it that, you know and what did you i mean, what did you hear did you was there anything you heard Rudy Giuliani telling the president on the phone that was significant . I heard the president ball rudy out on the golf course one time because of something he went on tv and said back during the mueller case. It depended what the conversation. Its hard for me to sit here and remember every conversation. Giuliani has come out and said youre lying, he says the words youre saying are coming from your attorney and that your attorney is leading you down the path of Michael Cohen. I take that as a threat from him because of what happened to Michael Cohen and he knows im nothing good or bad to say about Michael Cohen. I know weve met a couple of times in our past but we dont have no relationship. So i mean, but were two different people. Michael cohen was his attorney. They had their own relationship and i have no comment on that. And i had my own relationship. In terms of who knew about what you were doing in ukraine, did Vice President pence know . Of course. Because his office has said he was unaware of you know he met with zelensky after not going to the inauguration but he wasnt delivering a message of a quid pro quo. Look, again, like i said, im not here to debate. Im here to get the truth out. I got my records. How do you know that the Vice President would have known what giuliani was up to . We would speak every day. I knew everything that was going on. I mean, after rudy would speak with the president or come from the white house i was the first person he briefed. I mean, we had a relationship. We were that close. I mean, we were together from morning tonight. I mean, he took me i mean every interview he would do i would be sitting over there while he was doing the interviews. So giuliani knew everything you were doing. Everything. Youre saying Vice President pence knew . I dont know if the Vice President knew everything we were doing. He knew about the quid pro quo. In the conversation the subject of ukraine was brought up and i told the president that our opinion that she is bad mouthing him and she said hes going to get impeached, Something Like that, i dont know if thats word for word but she was you said at a at the table. Correct. Where the president was. Correct. His reaction, got very angry and turned around and said fire her, get rid of her. Youve been described, the position you ended up with, with giuliani, youve been described as a fixer for giuliani on his efforts to dig up dirt on the bidens. I dont know what you call a fixer. If the president of the United States tells them to meet with you, anybody will meet with you. Everybody you met with knew you represented Rudy Giuliani and by association the president . I mean, it was more than that. The protocol would be when i would meet example, when i first met a close aide to zelensky head of the intelligence. So when we first met he was the first person we met in the zelensky camp. When i met him, the first thing i did is i said i represent Rudy Giuliani and im going to put him on the phone. I put him on spoker phone, and rudy at that time told him that i represent the president of the United States and that everything i say, that to be taken with that authority. Rudy giuliani said on speakerphone to the man who now runs ukrainian intelligence that you represent giuliani and the president . Absolutely. The president directly. That you represent the president. Correct. Thats why they spoke to me and thats why i got out of there alive. You can say with 100 certainty that everything Rudy Giuliani did in ukraine was done with the president s blessing, whether or not he had foreknowledge or was told about it afterward but giuliani and the president were in frequent communication. Beyond frequent, several times a day. Rudy wouldnt do anything without the president s just like i wouldnt do anything without rudys. The argument made by republicans during the congressional hearings was not only that the president cares about corruption in ukraine, so this wasnt about a personal benefit for the president but that zelensky himself has come forward and said i didnt feel any pressure, there was no quid proquo, youve met with a whole host of people in the inner circle. Thats a total lie. Theyre still i mean, theyre still rocked to this day, theyre still not recovered and i dont know when they will. You have no doubt they felt this pressure, this was this was a oh, my god, of course. Existential threat. The main reason my life was threatened because of that. I mean so why do you think zelensky says there was no pressure . Theyre in an awkward pressure. I understand them. Im not here to call them out. The awkward position is, if zelensky says whatever he actually feels he still got out he still needs aid from the Trump Administration . Obviously. And he listen, my opinion is this. You know, loyalty goes so far but i think theres a lot of people in the Republican Party that dont agree, theyre good people that dont agree with what hes doing but theyre scared. He gets away with everything. And especially with attorney bill barr on his side and the Justice Department, i mean a lot of people are scared. They dont want to
