Its like 90 Approval Rating. The campaign wants to see these pictures broadcast of them arriving to charlotte on air force one together, descending the stairs together, then shoulder to shoulder on this stage at this rally in the key battleground state of North Carolina. At the same time donald trump is also going to be in North Carolina tonight in a different city, in raleigh. And hes been tweeting out criticism of the Obama Clinton trip. His latest tweet says taxpayers are paying a fortune for the use of air force one on the campaign trail by president obama and crooked hillary. Total disgrace. To be honest this comes up whenever a president uses air force one for campaign travel. But heres how it breaks down. Its the same for everybody. Although the rules have changed some over the years. In fact, while president obama has been president the amount that a Campaign Needs to kick in to that total cost has been increased. So air force one is very expensive. It costs more than 200,000 an hour. Even for Something Like this, yes, the taxpayer has to foot the bulk of the bill. Part of that is because this is the only way the president can travel. For security reasons he has to use air force one. Because this is a campaign event, the Campaign Needs to kick in a big chunk of it. Its basically broken down as how much would it cost for the company to rent a plane this size for this amount of time. They need to reimburse that to the taxpayer. But this is an event, the first time the president will be on the campaign trail. For months the white house has been asked when is he going to get out there and campaign for Hillary Clinton. Were going to see that today. The question is, how hard will he hit trump and will he finally mention him by name, something he does very rarely . Donald trump is still defending the use of that controversial tweet that critics say is antisemetic. Whats mr. Trumps new line of defense . You remember first he blamed the media, then he lashed out at Hillary Clinton for stirring up the controversy. And finally the campaign has offered up an explanation as to who put up that tweet and how they got it. Donald trump firing back at critics who say the star shape evokes antisemetic imagery, calling the attack false and ridiculous. Trump single out Clintons Campaign which called his tweet blatantly antisemetic and part of a pattern. Donald trump says the former secretary of state is trying to divert attention of dishonest behavior of herself and her husband. The Trump Campaign has invoked invoke ed big got now says he selected the star, not the jewish star of david but as he called it a sheriffs badge. He said in a statement the image was lifted from an antihillary twitter user where countless images. Appear a appear. The same graphic tweeted by trump appeared ten days earlier on a message board filled with antisemetic conspiracy theories and neo nazi ideology. Why is your Fact Finding Department focusing on fiction and how a major president ial campaign can be looking at racest websites or antisemetic sections of Online Sources and using it to find content to share with the american public. Trump deleted the tweet, replacing the graphic with a circle instead of a star. There is no antisemetism in mr. Trumps body, not one ounce, not one cell. No apology from donald trump for offending jewish groups. Donald trumps critics say someone that that campaign should have known if you pair a six point star with money thats going to evoke antisemetic imagery. Mr. Trumps social media director, does she have any experience doing that . You said he was a former caddy for mr. Trump. This isnt the only misstep that donald trump has had in terms of putting out tweets. A lot of people with questioning wheres the oversight. With me now jeffrey lord. Happy day after the fourth of july. Right back at you. We were just talking about mr. Trumps social media director. He has taken the fall pr mfor m trump. He said he lifted the image from an antihillary twitter user. I have to confess im not a social media type. What i know about dan scavino, who i do not know personally. Hes a great guy. He clearly made a mistake here. When i saw this without knowing the controversy that is exactly what i thought it was, a sheriffs badge. I grew up in an era when the sixpointed star was used on tv in a Popular Series as the sheriffs badge. I might add on the democratic side they play fast and loose with racism and antisemetism all the time. Right this minute theyre dealing with antiisrael delegates on the platform committee. Jeffrey, jeffrey, clearly the trump people thought it was a problem or they would not have changed the image. Yeah. If it was really a six pointed sheriffs star it should still be there, but frankly its not. They changed it to a circle. I suppose thats sort of admitting its a problem. Really isnt the deeper problem jeffrey is that his social media director is a former caddy and dont quite know what hes doing . Everybody deserves a chance in life. Everybody has definite jobs. Everybody was once somebody. I was a bellboy for heavens sakes. Did you feel the same way they got i mean, all these other candidates with all the money and all the social media experience in the world are not going to be the president ial nominee. Theres something going on here thats working. Tara, you were saying . Yeah. I just cant. You know, when i heard this sheriffs star nonsense yesterday that this was the excuse, i looked at my husband, who is a federal Law Enforcement officer, by the way, who was very offended by the implication that a sheriffs star was what this was instead of the star of david. The first thing he said when he looked at that was, a sheriffs star has points on it. Thats not true. Most of them. Yes. Come on. Give me a break, jeffrey. Just stop it. This is one of the nonsense excuses this campaign is using to make up for their incompetence and the fact that they are running an amateur hour president ial campaign. Every single week you and other supporters have to come on cable news and make excuses for donald trump and his kpaif yobehavior. Why would you use a sheriffs star to insult an opponent . Thats an honorable symbol. It doesnt make any sense. Why put it over money . On a weekend when shes being investigated by the fbi i hear you. Let me just interrupt you two. Let me interrupt you two. Jeffrey, you bring up Hillary Clinton being, you know, interrogated by the fbi for 3. 5 hours. Because of this mistake, because of this tweet, the attention is diverted away from that. Because of this social media director who has taken the fall for mr. Trump, were not talking about that. The Clinton Campaign wants to divert the attention. The Antidefamation League diverted the attention. If were talking about a misplaced tweet or being investigated for criminal actions by the director of the fbi himself, hello, and the first president ial nominee ever to be in that situation. I think were talking about things that are a little out of proportion here in terms of coverage. This is not the first time. If this had been a oneoff, maybe you could excuse it away. But this is not the first, second, third or fourth time that donald trump has gotten in trouble for retweeting things from a white supremacist white. Were supposed to be better than them. Why do you continue to support someone that keeps dragging this campaign into the mud in a way that is an embarrassment to the conservative movement . This is not the first time. What about when he retweeted from someone named White Genocide . Not once, but twice. Youre telling me that donald trump didnt recognize that name. Tara the Disgusting Things on social media coming from trump people to people like myself. Why dont you ever criticize okay. Im going to end the battle. Still to come in the newsroom, a fire rages and a country reels. Suicide bombers strike several targets in saudi arabia all in one day. Some people say its islam itself thats the real target. Been making dog chow for 36 years now. My dog girlfriend is 17 years old. Shes been eating dog chow from her very first day and she can still chase squirrels. A horrific end to the muslim holy month of ramadan has islam itself comes under siege from isis and those willing to die for isis. Suicide bombers launched three separate attacks in saudi arabia. The most shocking attack at the religions second most sacred site. After urging its followers to wage terror during ramadan, attacks have circled the globe and killed hundreds from orlando to europe to asia. Lets begin with Becky Anderson. While not all of these attacks have actually been claimed by isis, it was that chilling warning by the groups spokesman released by audiotape in late may calling for a month of attacks that has proved to be the precursor to so much carnage. One in five people across the globe are muslim and ramadan is meant to be a month of peace and reflection. This year it has been anything but. What do we know about this medina attack . My sources tell me this was a lone attacker. He was stopped by security personnel as he approached the exit of the prophets mosque. He was stopped and questioned and detonated his device. He killed a number of security guards. Were he to have made it into the mosque, he would have been among tens of thousands of worshippers. And the resultant carnage might have been the speck ltacular hor that isis have been calling for. While this is not the most deadly of the attacks during this ramadan month, i cannot over state the impact this attack on this missing will have had on muslims around the world. One saudi expert said what more evidence do muslims need than an attack at one of the holiest sites to say enough is enough and to weed out those who might be indifferent to isis. This marks the time for a concerted antiisis coalition with arab and muslim members at its core. It is muslims all over the world who are the victim of these awful attacks. I do have breaking news to share with you and its out of baghdad. Iraqs minister of interior has submitted his resignation. He did that today at a press conference. He cited a lack of coordination among Security Systems as the reason for his resignation. Of course that announcement comes following saturdays deadly attack that killed at least 215 people in baghdad. A truck loaded with explosives was brought into that neighborhood and exploded, killing all of these people. So the fallout has begun, ben. Reporter yes, indeed. It doesnt come as much of a surprise that there was going to have to be a scapegoat for these shortcomings of Iraqi Security that led to the death of at least 215 late saturday night in baghdad. We also heard in this press conference that the truck bomb that was used in this attack did not come from fallujah as many people suspected, but rather came from the opposite direction. It came from the east of baghdad. Its an area where isis does have a presence. But this underscores that the claims by the Iraqi Government that all the car bombs, all the suicide bombers that were plaguing baghdad came from fallujah and all that was needed was to retake fallujah from isis and those bombings would stop. Fallujah has been retaken and now they discover that the bomb came not from the west, but from the east. Overnight iraqi authorities executed five isis members. Their execution was accelerated as part of the governments response to the bombing. They say they have 3,000 people on death row, many of them isis members that theyd like to execute. But a new law has to be passed to accelerate that. The latest in the string of suicide bombings unfolding this morning in indonesia. Thats the country with the largest muslim population. Police say a suspected militant was on a motorcycle. He blew himself up. One officer was wounded. The attack took place in the southern indough muslim citizens in iraq and other places died by the hundreds. Muslims killing muslims supposedly in the name of islam. The bangladeshi Prime Minister is furious. She said what kind of muslims are these who kill others during ramadan. She went onto say anyone who believes in religion cannot do such an act. Their only religion is terrorism. Many americans wonder why the leaders of muslim countries dont do more to fight terrorists who are perverting their religion. With me former deputy chief of mix ga mission. Nice to have you both here. Colonel, these attacks in bangladesh, indonesia, iraq, saudi arabia, do you think they could unite the middle east to fight a common enemy, which is isis . Well, they have the theoretical possibility of doing just that. The Prime Minister of bangladeshs comments about this indicate a real need by islamic states to get together and to really fight the scourge of radical islam. It is a distinct possibility. A lot of countries tr tahave ta the talk. Now its time for them to walk the walk. Irans foreign minister said, quote, there are no many red lines for terrorists to cross. Also the United Arab Emirates minister of Foreign Affairs echoed those sentiments in his own tweet. The time has come to Work Together to save our religion and strip islam from these deadly criminal gangs. Is it possible that countries like iran and saudi arabia who bitter enemies could join together to fight a common enemy . One would certainly hope so. Lets remember that this great war against terrorism has been going on for well over a dozen years now. The principal victims in that war have been throughout that period muslims. One would have to ask, why wasnt this done years ago, certainly at the intelligence level and the security level, there actually has been significant improvement, particularly in terms of collaboration and coordination. When it comes to a unified effort of governments and their peoples, these governments have fallen significantly short. So the attacks near the mosque in saudi arabia, will that make a difference . Well, it should make a difference. This is the second holiest site in islam. Although its not clear, the attacker may have intended to enter the mosque, where as your reporter indicated earlier, thousands could have died. Keep in mind also it comes right at the end of the holy month of ramadan and just before the beginning of the haj when well over t2 million muslims will be collecting in the holy city of mecca just south of medina. They will be very exposed, collected in a very tiny space. The threat will be much greater and im sure the concerns throughout the muslim world today are what could possibly happen this. Colonel, is there anything the United States can do to pressure these middle eastern leaders to come together to fight that common enemy instead of just letting the United States handle most of it . Well, i think thats basically the idea that the joint chiefs of staff, the civilian leadership of the pentagon as well as the white house have had. You have them fight their own wars and have us assist them. We certainly can do things that will allow us to get the islamic states to come together to fight this common enemy. The opening that the United States tried to do with iran with the Nuclear Talks may actually serve to help bridge that gap between the different muslim countries. If we can use that as a unifying force, then we can perhaps indicate to them how to do this and help them as part of a condition of our aide help them achieve the goal of defeating isis. It really is our common goal. Still to come in the newsroom, cnn sits down for a one on one interview with the father of one to have bangladeshi terrorists. And could this be the symbol Hillary Clinton needs . Beyond has a natural grain free pet food committed to truth on the label. When we say real meat is the first ingredient, it is number one. And we leave out corn, wheat and soy. For your pet, we go beyond. Wait no my computer, no, wait, what are we running after . My stupid, old computer. Well if its so old, why are you chasing it . Is it slow . Weigh a ton . Yeah. Well you know. I know. Todays pcs are faster and lighter, i know. So why are we still running . I dont know. You know about it. Now do something about it. Upgrade to a new pc. Oh, charley horse, charley horse. Call for help, call for help. Help, help and good morning. Hillary clinton embarks on what you might call a trust building tour. Shell start her journey with a powerful democratic ally, president obama. Clinton will land on air force one. Shell disembark with the president at her side. Voters simply do not trust her. The latest poll shows more than half of registered voters dont believe she is honest and trustworthy. Welcome to both of you. So rebeck sccrebecca, this is k historic. Its been decades since a sitting president really delivered for a candidate. George w. Bush was too unpopular to campaign for mccain. This is sort of history making. It is. As you pointed out, its because these president s this recent history at least have not been popular leading into the election for their successor or would be successor. Were in a very interesting situation here where Hillary Clinton is actually very openly running as a third term of barack obama. Shes used sort of that terminology herself. And so appearing with president obama, flying with him to this event in North Carolina is of course very symbolic and sort of trying to make that theme very clear to voters that she wants to continue his legacy and thinks very positively of what he has accomplished. His favorability is still quite good. Thats part of her strategy here. But he is also sort of a legitimizer for her. As you noted, she is very unpopular, in large part because voters dont necessarily trust her. To have the president out there speaking on her behalf and vo h vouching for her could be a powerful tool in her arsenal. Remember this moment during a debate in 2008 between the two candidates . Listen. I dont think im that bad. Youre likable enough, hillary. Thank you. I appreciate that. So that was quite an uncomfortable moment. Does president obama really like her . Is this real or is this political . First of all, president obama made her the secretary of state in his first term. Clearly he believes in secretary clinton. Of course he believes that she can carry fort and move forward our country. Whats amazing to me is you look at all these trust issues. You showed me a fox poll, which i dont believe whatsoever. Weve had whitewater, travelgate, vince foster. It comes to nothing. The same as benghazi and the same as these emails. Clearly we know donald trump has a tremendous fraudulent past. Fraud university, which has created i would hope that rebecca, have you interviewed any of his former Business Partners . I would love some of trumps former Business Partners to get on the air. Lets hear what they say about Donald Trumps trustworthiness. Were not talking about Donald Trumps trustworthiness. Were talking about Hillary Clintons. Shell appear with joe biden on friday. Shes getting those democrats that democrats love, frankly, to be by her side. So some of that love rubs off. No question about it. I could tell you something. The people of america trust that secretary clinton will get the job done. Shell show up. Shes disciplined. I know her personally, carol. Shes a trust worry good person. President obama, his. Approval rates are up theyre at 51 which is really good. Still Many Americans dont exactly love his economic policies or his foreign policy. Will that matter . Well, usually in president ial elections well see that Economic Policy matters a lot more than foreign policy. And this could be an outliaeout. Hillary clinton is so stronger emphasizing her experience as secretary of state and because there is so much instability in the middle east that its making people feel insecure here at home. When youre looking at a president ial election, the major indicator of who is going to win is the direction of the economy. So do americans feel like things are Getting Better or things are getting worse . So thats really the point that barack obama together with Hillary Clinton is going to need to make, that things are improving for americans. But as weve seen and much of trumps success has stemmed from this economic instability and this feeling that not all americans have been a part of this economic recovery, there is still some angst about the economy and the country. So the degree of that will be a big factor in the outcome in this election. And those americans probably dont want another term for president obama in the form of Hillary Clinton. Im not so sure i agree with you. The fact of the matter is unemployment was over 10 with george bush. Now its under 5 . The economy seems to be moving fra forward in a very positive administration. Secretary clinton has the ability to move the economy forward to continue that path. I think the American People do feel that were going in the right direction. I think secretary clinton can move the current forward. Chilling new details about that horrific cafe attack in bangladesh. People now say they mistakenly identified one of the victims as one of the terrorists and that five gunmen, not six, carried out the attack. In the meantime, with an interview with the coowner of the bakery, he says employees described the terrorists as calm and that they handled their guns with ease. At one point people were hiding in the kitchen when the gunmen found them. There were some hiding in the bakery side there who were then brought out. The gunman came in here. They shot quite a few people. Then they went on this side to where the bakery and kitchen is. They found a couple of people hiding, including a. Japanese national who was apparently shot there. They brought our staff right here. There were all dead bodies laying on the ground. Lets go to bangladesh. Alexandra field is there. Reporter investigators say the killings happened within minutes of the time that the gunmen stormed into that bakery, shooting it up. Were learning now from that conversation with the owner of the bakery, from what he has heard from his staff inside the building, that pictures were being taken during the attack and at one point the bakery staff asked for the wifi password. These attackers clearly wanted to be in communication with the outside world getting the message out that their mission had been accomplished. Chilling new details. The bakery was under siege for 11 hours. All the attackers are bangladeshi, all well educated, ranging in age from 18 to 20. I spoke to one of the attackers father. I dont know what to say. I have to apologize to all those families on behalf of my son. I want to say i dont believe that my son has done it with his own conscience. It will not give anything any message to this family. I want to say that i just want to say that whether theyre listening to it or not, this is not my sons conscience. Hes only 18. Reporter tributes and Services Continue to be held for the 23 victims of fridays attack. Still to come, a few weeks before athletes start competing in the rio olympics, Scientists Say they found super bacteria in the water. One month from today, the opening ceremonies will kick off at the rio olympics. Now a scary New Discovery in the waters of rio de janeiro. Scientists are calling it a super bacteria found in city sewage along with hospital sewage is released into the bay where athletes are already training. Reporter it is just incredible. Not only have they found it in the bay, which we already knew was polluted where the sailing event is taking place, but even on some of rios most touristy beaches. They need to study what kind of impact this will have on the health of athletes, but also they need to let both athletes, tourists and beachgoers know about this and be warned ahead of time. The marvelous city, stunning views and golden beaches. But you might think twice before you splash in. Lurking under rios waters, raw sewage and now what scientists describe as super bacteria. Researchers at the Rio Federal University tested the citys beaches for a year and discovered high levels of the dreaded super bug. Drug resistant bacteria that have been turning up in hospitals. We believe that true hospital sewage, it goes to the municipal sewage and it gets to the bay or to other rivers and it finally gets to the beaches. Reporter the highest levels found on the shores of the bay, site of the olympic sailing event a month from now. German pajegerman sailor says y over cautious. Every time you get some water in your face, it feels like there is some alien enemy en entering your face. I keep my nose and my lips closed. Reporter Authorities Say athletes and visitors will be safe. And the sailing arena has internationally acceptable levels of bacteria. According to rios water utility, half the homes in rios state are now connected to the sewage system, up from 11 . Of course the waste Water Treatment plants are not prepared for the super bacterias. Its something new. Reporter and something the utility says it will look into further. But Scientists Say the super bug is also washing up on some of rios most touristy beaches which are already deemed too polluted to swim in by authorities a good third of the year. This water right here isnt treated. Its supposed to be for rain runoff. It stinks of raw sewage and it dumps right here on the beach. Now, when rio won its bid to host the olympics seven years ago, one of its major promises was cleaning up its water. They said they would work to get 80 of homes connected to sewage system. But every time we ask the mayor and the water officials, its Still Standing at just 50 . This means half of it ends up right here. Hillary clinton trying to increase her likability by hitching a ride to charlotte with president obama on Board Air Force one. This will be their First Campaign event together ever. Well hear from clinton first. Shes going to address the National Education Association Just about 45 minutes from now and then shell hop aBoard Air Force one with the president. In the meantime, in Raleigh Donald trump continues to fuel veep speculation, this time teaming up with rumored pick senator bob corker. Michelle kosinski live in charlotte where clinton will be holding the big event with the president hours from now. Good morning, michelle. Reporter this appearance is a long time coming. As long as weve seen Hillary Clinton on the trail, the white house has been taking questions, when is president obama going to endorse her, when is he going to get out there . We know hes been eager to get on the campaign trail. Today kicks all that off. Of course, the Clinton Campaign is wanting to get as much out of this as they possibly can. The pictures theyll want to see of the both of them arriving in charlotte on air force one, walking down the steps together, appearing on stage shoulder to shoulder in this rally in a battleground state. I cant tell you how many people weve talked to since weve been here. On both sides they dont know who theyre voting for. They dont really like either candidate that much. Thats what we keep hearing. Thats why both sides want a piece of this. At the same time, later on today were going to see donald trump in North Carolina, also in a different city, in raleigh. Hes going to be hitting Hillary Clinton as weve seen him doing. This morning he was criticizing the obamaclinton appearance. Listen to this, saying in a tweet, taxpayers are paying a fortune for the use of air force one on the campaign trail by president obama and crooked hillary, a total disgrace. He is right about taxpayers having to foot a big part of this big bill for this kind of travel. Air force one we know costs about 200,000 an hour to operate and taxpayers do have to pay a chunk of that. Normally this would be something that would be official travel for the president , but because this is campaign travel, the Clinton Campaign does have to kick in for it. The way they average it out is looking at what the campaign would pay if they chartered a plane of this size for this amount of time. The exact numbers, though, the white house likes to keep that a secret. The white house doesnt like to row veal exactly how its broken down, but you know theyre going to face questions about this today because of the way this has come up. Were going to hear more about that a little later on, carol. Michelle kosinski live from charlotte, North Carolina. As donald trump prepares to rally supporters, his campaign is dealing with the fallout for that treat that critics slammed as antisemitic. Hes laying the blame at Hillary Clintons feet for what he says are, quote, false attacks. Cnns Jason Carroll is following that side of the political spectrum. Good morning. The men at the center of the debate is not just donald trump but the campaigns social media director, daniel ska vino. Within the past hour he weighed in with a tweet. He said for the msm, the mainstream media, to suggest i am antisemite is awful. I probably celebrate holidays with my wifes amazing jewish family for the past 16 years. Hes the one who is responsible for putting out that tweet. Scavino says he chose that off Sheriffs Department shapes. He also says antihillary he said he got this image and it was lifted from an anti hillary twitter user where countless images appear and not sourced from an antisemitic website. Now finally we have this man weighing in on this particular issue, adding another wrinkle saying, look, my wife is jewish, theres no way i am an antisemite. There is his picture. I think what youll hear from trump critics, look, we understand trump has jewish people in his family, but you have to look beyond your own family and beyond your campaign and look at how images like this could possibly be perceived. Just to be clear, the social media director pulled the image from an anti hillary site and then fashioned his own and then he says here is the problem with that, cnn found that very same image on a website posted some ten days ago, and that website definitely fed into antisemitic ideology. This is something that the campaign is going to have to try to square off in some way. Jason carroll, thanks so much. With me to talk about this, douglas brinkley, cnn president ial historian and john avlon, cnn political analyst. Welcome to both of you. Job, this tweet, is everyone making a mountain out of a mole hill here . I dont think so. This is about more than this specific tweet. The issue is not whether donald trump or his social media director are antisemitic or racist. I think thats an unfair accusation. The upped lying issue is that so many things from donald trump and his account have tweeted from, have come from these absurd corners of the internet that are these tlurry of antisemitic and racist means. This is the kind of swamp they keep fishing from. If a disproportionate number of your supporters are racist or antisemitic, then theyre responding to something youre saying, and theres a deeper degree of responsibility that comes from that, in addition to the fact that they keep retweeting these unhinged accounts. There is direct responsibility to that account that needs to be taken into account. Doug, has this ever happened in president ial races past . Not the tweeting because i know it didnt exist, but you know what i mean. Sure. There are always problems that come up that are dealing with race or antisemitism. I edited nixons tapes recently, and nixon was a wellknown antisemite who would say horrible things all the time. You have political seasons, jimmy carter famously mentioned he had lust in his heart in a playboy interview and he got excoriated for that. Theres constantly these kinds of things coming up. However, john is exactly right, the Trump Campaign seems to be attracted to these white supremacist, antisemitic places on the internet. Where they got this from or not, somebody in the trump camp should recognize that most Jewish Americans recognize that as the star of david and not a sheriffs star. At the very least, bad Communications Director not thinking through the ramifications of just throwing stuff up there. Its part of the problem i think of the internet. We tend to just kind of quickly without thinking unleash things out there on the public. And were always either trying to rain it back in or bottle it back up. Thats true. In fact, john, i just want to lay this by your viewers, dr. Ben carson who is a trump supporter, a surrogate. He sent out a tweet saying shoeshl media provides a great platform for discourse but we must be careful with the messages we send out. Dr. Carson seems to be saying there was something wrong, there is something to apologize for. Will it work . Look, donald trump, you live by the sword and die by the sword. Donald trump has used social media enormously successfully, particularly twitter through the course of the campaign to create unfiltered views. The problem southbound a pattern of retweeting people who arent just picking up images who are supporters online, you have to go deep to find these antisemitic and racist sites that are fixated in hating hillary. If youre going fishing on those waters, dont be surprised if you pull up ugly stuff. Hillary clinton flying on air force one with president obama landing in an important swing state, North Carolina. Shes trying to build trust and likability through president obama. Will that work . Its going to help her tremendously. North carolina is a state that brum was able to carry the first time he ran. Thats a big deal, if she can make up playing to North Carolina. I think obama is going to be the super surrogate, not bill clinton. I think he has a Third Campaign in him, barack obama. His legacy is at stake. If you bring limb in to College Campuses or into cities like columbus or cincinnati or orlando, and particularly in the Africanamerican Community where barack obama has a 95 Approval Rating, he could really be a significant person in this campaign if he gets behind Hillary Clinton in the right ways. He also has a genius of getting under Donald Trumps skin. He knows how to say the right things like ignorance isnt cool, just little jabs that seem to hold up. Obama now has a public Approval Rating fairly high, up in the 50s. Right, 51 . John, donald trump is also going to be in North Carolina. He announced that on saturday. Hillary clinton announced her trip the previous thursday. So is donald trump trying to, like, take some of the focus off president obama along with Hillary Clinton, both getting off air force one . Maybe. Look, North Carolina is a mustwin for donald trump. The problem is, the demographic map in a lot of these Southern States like virginia and North Carolina that have become swing means its more difficult for republicans to win. In the past, they could have taken it for granted. Not so anymore. Particularly if Hillary Clinton picks tim kaine from virginia as her vp nominee. The democrats need to peel off a couple more swing states and the republicans are in deep electoral map trouble. Hes going to have to deflect all he can, but hes fighting fires within his own party as well. As doug pointed out, the fact that president obama has an Approval Rating over 50 , thats double where president george w. Bush was at this point. He could be a very powerful surrogate as doug just said. Douglas brinkley, john avlon, thanks to both of you. At the top of the hour, interestingly enough, fbi director james comey is due to hold a news conference. No word on what exactly hell talk about. There are several possibilities. The conference comes amid an alarming spike of suicide bombings involving isis. Then theres the investigation into Hillary Clintons use of a private email server and whether she or her aides broke the law. The fbi interviewed clinton over the weekend as you know. The fbi director expected to talk at the top of the hour. Of course, when he does that, cnn will carry it live. Still to come in the newsroom, smoke billows into the air after suicide bombers strike across saudi arabia. This one of islams holiest sites. Now other nations join the outcry. The muslim holy month of ramadan is in its final hours and it has been scarred by violence and terror all by plil tants claiming to kill in the name of islam. Within a 24hour period, suicide bombers launched three separate attacks in saudi arabia, a key u. S. Ally and the spiritual home of islam. The most shocking attack at the most sacred site, the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad. At least four people were killed there, isis again the suspect, urging followers to wage terror during ramadan. Attacks have killed hundreds from orlando to europe to asia. Becky anderson, the managing editor of cnns bureau in abu dhabi. One in five people across the globe who are muslim, ramadan is meant to be a month of peace and reflection. This year across the muslim world and beyond, as you pointed out, it has been anything but. While not all these attacks have been claimed by isis, it was the chilling warning by the groups spokesman released by audiotape back in late may calling for months of attacks and jihad that has proved to be the precursor to so much of this. While not the most deadly, i cannot overstate the emotional and psychological impact the attack on the prophets mosque in medina will have on muslims around the world. A saudi source telling me this was a lone attacker stopped by security personnel as he approached the exit of the prophets mosque. Just as the call to sunset prayers was ending, he was stopped and questioned and detonated his device, killing a number of security guards and injuring a number of others. Were he to make it into mosque, he would have been among tens and thousands of worshippers. The carnage would have been the horrible propaganda that isis have been calling for. One saudi i have just spoken to, suggested this ought to be a watershed moment. He said what more evidence do muslims need themselves than an attack on one of the holiest sites to say enough is enough and to weed out those who might be indifferent to the extremist militants and their actions. Lets remember that its mostly muslims who have been killed in these terror attacks over the past few years, perhaps not in this past month, but 97 of those killed in terror attacks since 2005 are muslims themselves. Carol . I know during the first eight months of 2014 alone, and im just talking about iraq, 24,000 civilians have been killed or injured by attacks. Thats just incredible. Becky anderson reporting live from abu dhabi, thank you. Now lets go to iraq where the nations interior minister resigned citing security failures after saturdays truck bomb that killed at least 215 people. Ben wedeman in bagdad. Hi, ben. Reporter hi, carol. Not really any surprise that somebody is going to have to take the fall for that bombing that left 250 people at least dead. Mohammad raban in a Live Press Conference saying hes resigning because of shortcomings in coordination between the security services. Now, the government here in the aftermath of that bombing has been scrambling to try to do as much as possible to assuage mounting public anger over what is widely perceived as the failures of the security services. Theyve beefed up security around the city. The Prime Minister has ordered the immediate discontinuation of the use of these completely bogus bomb detection devices that have been used for years. And ive seen it just the other day, by private and Government Security services in the checkpoints around the city. They also overnight executed five members of isis. That makes 37 in the past two months. They say theyve got another 3,000 people on death row that theyd like to execute as well if they can just pass a new law facilitating that. Carol . All right, ben wedeman reporting live from bagdad this morning. Thank you. Lets talk about all this. Cnn military analyst, Rick Francona is here and former u. N. And state department official. Welcome to both of you. David, i want to start with you. Did you hear what Becky Anderson said. These attacks on the mosque in saudi arabia might be a Tipping Point, might be the thing that craws middle Eastern Countries together to fight a common enemy. Is that possible . It certainly is possible. You would hope it galvanizes the gulf countries with the fight against itis. They have been helping up to now but they can do a lot more. The attacks that have happened over the last few weeks are very tragic, but they are not totally unexpected. When isis is backed into a corner, they do one of two things, either they do terrorist attacks abroad or seek to attack new cities and towns they have not attacked before in iraq and syria that they seem to think are vulnerable. I think we can expect isis to continue to do both of those things because isis has lost a lot of territory in iraq. They went down from 33 of iraq to about 15 now. So they are in a way backed in a corner. However, they still have a stronghold in mows all and we have to watch to see what happens with respect to the operation to take back mosul. Exactly. In light of the huge terror attack that killed 215 people, i think the government of iraq is stepping back saying maybe its not time to retake mosul. Right, colonel . I think so. The dismissing of the interior ministry falls right into that. They have to reassess what theyre doing. We talked about this before, carol. The residents of bagdad are more concerned about their own security than this eventual, inevitable fall of mousal. The government will eventually go back and retake mosul. Everybody thought with the fall of fallujah and the ridding of isis from anbar province, that the security in bagdad would improve. This is what Prime Minister abadi was telling the iraqi people. Weve seen in the last couple days thats just not true. I think theyre going to step back, reassess what theyre doing. I think david is right. Isis is going to continue to do this because this is success for them. Theyll continue to undermine the Iraqi Government just like theyre trying to upped mine the saudi government. This is typical. It is typical, david. I ask you, here is a suicide bomber that blows himself up outside a mosque. It could have been awful, could have been terrible. What is saudi arabia doing about it . What are they doing . Well, saudi arabia, they have to maintain their own internal security. I think they have a pretty good handle on that. Obviously theyll probably make additional changes to their security procedures. They also need to be supporting the effort to take out isis in the places where its very strong in syria and iraq, and they ought to be contributing more to that effort, including perhaps contributing sunni soldiers who could assist perhaps on the ground. It may ultimately take a ground force to push isis out. And i think the bombing in bagdad is very interesting and very telling about the strength of isis to continue to do attacks. Remember, when i lived in iraq and bagdad in 06 and 07, we had tens of thousands of u. S. Soldiers there and we still couldnt prevent attacks like this. Well continue to see attacks like this in bagdad until isis is completely pushed out of iraq. Thats why saudi arabia needs to get involved. But instead saudi arabia is bombing yemen, right . And its not targeting isis terrorists . Isnt it targeting Houthi Rebels backed by iran because saudi arabia is more afraid of iran than isis . Thats their big rival in the gulf of course. They are involved in yemen. They are contributing to the u. S. Led coalition. We talked about Ground Forces with the saudis for a long tiechlt i think david is right on there. Youll need a ground source to go in there. What were doing on the ground in syria is not working. If youre going to need a ground source and need saudi troops to do it, the saudis have one requirement, that we go in with them as well. I dont see that happening in the current environment. Hell appear with tennessee senator bob corker later today in raleigh, North Carolina. Hes said to make his vp pick public next week. Well keep you posted on the subject of Hillary Clinton, she is due to speak to the National Education association at any time now. After the speech secretary clinton will embark on what you might call a trustbuilding tour, starting her journey with powerful democratic ally, president barack obama. The optics surrounding this will be powerful. Clinton will fly to North Carolina on air force one, disembark with the president at her side, but it may not be enough. Some voters simply do not trust her. The latest fox news poll shows more than half of registered voters do not believe mrs. Clinton is honest and trustworthy. So how to cover come those numbers. Drew westin is author of political brain, professor at Emory University and political psychologist. Voters have been aware of Hillary Clinton for 30 years. I think most of them have made up their mind about her. How can she change perception at this point . Thats part of the problem is that shes had this perception for a very long time. If i were advising hillary, which im not, but if i were, i would give her some, what sounds like very simple kind of stupid advice which is, whenever youre asked any question at all, even a question about trust, just tell the truth right from the start straight from the heart. An example, if shes asked, what do you think about this trust issue . Why dont Americans Trust you . Id tell the truth. Id say, you know, as the first lady in the 1990s, no first lady had ever been treated like that before. Frankly, it hurt, and ive put up defenses and put up calluses. It makes me, when i get one of these attacks like this bogus scandal about which email did i use you really think thats going to work . You know, i think if voters were to see her answering directly to questions. The email thing is a good example. To give you an example of that, if i had been Hillary Clinton and i were answering that erks mail issue for the first time, i would have said, look, can you see this credit card on television . Yeah. I would have said, look, this is my business card, this is my personal card. Its kind of hard to tell the difference and i dont think that theres a Small Business owner in the United States who doesnt get it that you have to keep one email for your personal stuff and keep another for your business stuff, and occasionally youre going to screw up but youre not going to screw up for the big things. Yeah, i screwed up, but i would never have screwed up on something big. Okay. Well see what she says today in North Carolina alongside president obama. No official word what exactly hell be talking about, cnns evan perez is live at fbi headquarters. Any hints, evan . Reporter carol, so far no hints from the fbi as to what this press conference is about. Its not very common for the fbi director to do these. We know there are several bigticket investigations on his plate, starting with the Hillary Clinton investigation, the investigation into her private email server. She was interviewed over the weekend on saturday for 3 1 2 hours at the fbi headquarters building. This is where the investigation is managed from, carol, which is pretty unusual. A judges ruling will make it harder for drug kingpin el chapo to stay imprisoned in mexico which means he could get closer to exdags. A lawyer familiar with the process says if el chapo is expedited to the u. S. , we may not know about it until hes already here. Cnns nick valencia live with more. Reporter good morning. One of the two injunctions to delay the expedition process filed by Defense Attorneys last week has been dismissed by a federal judge. This essentially removes a speed bump in the expedition process. His attorneys tried to argue the statute of limitations against the Drug Cartel Kingpin had expired. A federal judge didnt see it that way. Since his recapture in january 2016, an endless back and forth between el chapos attorneys and mexican prosecutors. The Defense Attorneys have two legal options. One is to exploit double jeopardy or argue the crimes hes being charged for in the u. S. Are the same in mexico and he should serve out his prison sentence in mexico. The other is this injunction case trying to go to a federal judge to get them to constitutionally review the process of expedition. The Cartel Kingpin has gone through Great Lengths to try to evade justice. Youre about to see how far those lengths are in clips from this documentary set to air at 9 00 eastern tonight. Around midnight on february 17, 2014, El Chapo Guzman wants a snack and sends a guard out to get it. Mexican marines get lucky. He was grabbed. He was arrested and he cooperated. This is the house where the guard says el chapo is hiding, but when they got to the front door, they got unlucky. Not only is this a steel door, but its several inches thick of reinforced steel. So they had to try to bash it in, and they were using a battering ram. Ordinarily what happens is, as you batter the door, the metal heats up and softens and you can get in. Not this door, each come part mtd is filled with water. This door diptd heat up. It took almost ten minutes to get inside. Thats all the time the king of tunnels needs. Looks like a bathtub, right . Check this out. A signature el chapo tunnel. And down he goes. The Cartel Kingpin wields incredible power and influence which is how he was able to remain on the run for so long. Despite all these efforts to stall or delay the expedition process, experts with the criminal Defense System in mexico tell us its just a matter of time before we see the Cartel Kingpin in the United States. Chilling new details about that horrific cafe attack in bangladesh. Police say they mistakenly identified one of the victims as a terrorist. Only five gunmen, not six, carried out the attack. That brings the death toll to 23. In the meantime, during an interview with a coowner of the bakery, he says employees described the terrorists as calm and proficient with their weapons. Lets get right to cnn alexandra field live in dhaka where the attack took place. Hi, alexandra. Reporter hey there, carol. We are learning new details about what happened inside the bakery on friday night. Police say many of the victims were killed within minutes of the attack. Five attackers storming that restaurant between the ages of 18 and therapy mid 20s, from upper middle class backgrounds, all educated. I sat down with the father of the youngest attacker. He says he cant quite bring himself to believe his son carried out these acts. He had these words for the families of the 23 victims. I dont know what to say. I apologize to all the families on behalf of my son. I want to say i dont believe my son has done it with his own conscience. I dont know, it will not give any any message to those families, but i want to say that i just want to say, whether theyre listening or not, this is not my sons conscious decision, this cant be. Hes only 18. Reporter the holy artisan bakery was a popular spot among expats and locals. A communal table everyone in the restaurant would share. The owner of the bakery says he was there just before the attack started friday evening. He left but was on his phone with some of his Staff Members as that horrendous attack unfolded. He said some hiding on a rooftop and some in the kitchen where a gunman soon discovered them. There were some hiding in the bakery side there and wore who were then brought out. From what we know, the gunmen came in here, shot quite a few people. Then they went inside, on this side to where the bakery and the cafe kitchen is. They found a couple of people hiding there including a Japanese National who was apparently shot then, and they brought our staff out over here by which time our staff saw they were basically all dead bodies lying on the ground. Reporter the scene of so much bloodshed, still blocked off, still under heavy guard as investigators continue to do their work there. The owner of the bakery says he hasnt been back and he isnt sure if he can bring himself to reopen another restaurant. Carol . Alexandra field reporting live from bangladesh. Hundreds of people dead in terror attacks in bangladesh and across the middle east. Unfortunately this is not something new. If you take a look at just iraq, the United Nations estimates at least 24,000 civilians were killed or injured in iraq in just the first eight months of 2014. Muslims killing muslims, supposedly in the name of islam. The bangladeshi Prime Minister is furious. She says what kind of muslims are these who kill others during ramadan. She said anyone who believes in religion cant do such an act, they dont have any religion, their only religion is terrorism. Still Many Americans wonder why the leaders of muslim countries dont do more to fight terrorists who are perverting their religion. Dean, you devoted your life to talk about all things muslim. You could be doing something else. You were very successful in other careers. It just comes up. I view myself as an activist against injustice, whatever it might be, if its against antisemitism, homophobia. Islamophobia is on the rise. Its caused a backlash by groups such as isis. In my writing, my point is to make it clear the number one victim of isis is muslims. Anyone who does not submit to isis. As a leader, Prime Minister of bangladesh, Prime Minister of turkey stated islam leaders. These are muslims. Why dont middle Eastern Countries get together and fight that common enemy. Put boots on the ground within their own region and get rid of these people perverting their religion . On the battlefield, there should be more. The iraqi forces are having some success there. In syria, theyre having fighting there. Could there be more . Yes. I spoke with many muslim friends in the middle east, they dont feel theyll be motivated to have troops on the ground. They say america and the west wanted isis to be a counterbalance to the iran influence in iran and iraq. So you have these arguments, that doesnt make any sense whatsoever to me. Some of your friends in the middle east think isis is an american creation . At least a western creation at first that got out of hand. Theyre not saying now what theyre doing is what they intended. They say it was to be a counterbalance, the shah influence, the way saddam influence contained the influence in the region. Still they go, its your problem, you created it, you should get rid of it. There are arab coalitions bombing there, saudi arabia, turkey. Theres no doubt boots have to be on the ground to fight them. Were seeing the success in iraq. The hardest thing is finding ideology. Its not bombing. Thats going to be online working with the muslim community. Lets talk about saudi arabia. A suicide bomber blew himself up right near where the Prophet Muhammad was born. Wont that send a message to the sadie government that they need to put boots on the ground. Actually where tefs buried, not where he was born. Sorry. Thats okay. In any event, it should be before this. 200 muslims were killed in iraq over this weekend, children, families, walking to celebrate the end of the sunset. In march 200 muslims were killed, sunni and shia. People say theyre just killing shia. Isis killed sunni clerics, they bibehead them from not submitting to isis. The number one victim of isis are muslims. Theres a war by isis against all of our faiths and people without faith. Is this the Tipping Point then, because there were attacks in bangladesh, attacks in indonesia, iraq. 215 people died there. So is this the Tipping Point . You would hope it would be. In nye heart i want it to be. I wanted it to be a year ago as muslims were getting slaughtered on a daily basis before they could do what they did in paris and brussels. We need a concerted effort by muslim countries and uniting muslims in this country being on the lookout for anyone trying to radicalize young muslims. Its not happening on mosques. Its happening online. Dean observe dalla, thanks so much. Thanks, carol. Ill be right back. Ep being terrible at golf for as long as i can. New patented ensure enlive has hmb plus 20 grams of protein to help rebuild muscle. For the strength and energy to do what you love. New ensure enlive. Always be you. Creating the Childrens Health insurance program, so that every child gets the health care that child deserves to have. Now eight million kids are covered. Thats the kind of leader she is. And the kind of president shell be. Im Hillary Clinton and i approve this message. All right. In just about three minutes we expect fbi director james comey to make some sort of statement about something. I wish i could be more specific, but i dont know. He could talk about any number of large things, like what happened in orlando at the pulse nightclub. He could also talk about Hillary Clintons email controversy. As you know, the fbi questioned her for 3 1 2 hours last weekend, and he could also talk about isis, of course, because with all the terror attacks going on across the middle east over the weekend and tell us whats the latest with that. Were going to keep you posted and take this live at the top of the hour. Lets talk about something good or maybe lucky. The Mega Millions jackpot making history. Cnns Christina Alesci joins us now. How high is jackpot . I dont even know. 449 million. Back in january we had a bigger number of 1. 6 billion. This unvariably will get people to go out and buy a ticket. Your chances are slim. We talk about this all the time. One in 259 million, thats your chance of winning. You have a better chance of dying after being struck by lightning or being stung by a bee. My personal favorite, you have a better chance of being struck by lightning while drowning than winning the lotto tonight. Putting it into perspective sauch cheery analogy. Its not going to stop people from buying tickets. Americans love lotto. They spent 70 billion buying lotto tickets, somostly scratchoffs. Thats more than entertainment combined, more than sports tickets, Movie Theater tickets. If you do win and beat the odds somehow, there are two ways to take the payout. You can either do it in a lump sum which is actually less money, or you can get it over a 29year period. Most people opt pour the lump sum because they think they can do a better job investing the money than the state can which is probably true after speaking to some of my colleagues that are watching this very closely. I bet they already have their tickets. I bet you do, too. I dont yet. Going to run out and get one right now. Christina go thank you for joining me today. At this hour with berman and bolduan starts now. This is cnn breaking news. Hello everyone, im john berman. Im kate bolduan. Looking at the podium right there, waiting to hear from fbi director james comey any moment now and well be completely transparent, were not exactly sure what well be hearing. We dont even know what topic he plans to address. Keep in mind this comes three days after an investigator sat down with Hillary Clinton for 3 1 2 hours discussing her use of a private email server while secretary of state. Sat down with means asking questions for more than 3 1 2 hours. Loretta
