Learning about his deal this doorman entered into with ami, American Media inc. , the Parent Company inquirer. Ami paid trumps former doorman 30,000 during the election to stay silent about the story, but the doorman would owe ami 1 million if he made public the allegations against trump. Ami has now released the doorman from that confidentiality agreement as the Company Comes under intense scrutiny from investigators looking into the way this company participated in a series of alleged coverups in the 2016 election. Michael cohen, president trumps former attorney, has pleaded guilty to paying two women using ami to suppress their allegations of alleged affairs during the 2016 election. And david pecker, chairman of ami, has been granted immunity by investigators to talk about the deals. With this investigation that is being aired by the doorman, the implications for trump more broadly speaking could be more important than the allegation itself because, fred, it raises the question about how many other individuals may have been paid during the campaign to keep their allegations silent. Thank you so much, sarah westwood. And this feud between the president and Jeff Sessions is now escalating. The president is responding to sessions pushing back that the department of justice wont be influenced by pushback. Trump wrote this, Jeff Sessions said he wouldnt allow politics to influence him, only because he doesnt understand what is happening underneath his command position. Highly conflict d bob mueller and his gang of 17 angry dems ha are having a field day. No collusion. Jeremy herd is joining me now. This feud is escalating as well. So what does this say about sessions and his ability to push back and this continues to go on between the two. Reporter yeah, thats right. We have heard the criticisms from the president of his attorney general for the better part of the year, but there are clues to be held for sessions fate. He pushed back against the president after the president said that sessions never took control of the justice department. Sessions issued a rare statement saying that he took control on day one and also that help wouldnt be influenced by political considerations. The other key part of this equation is on capitol hill where he talked about a replacement and being fired. Lindsey graham said there would be holy hell to pay if sessions was fire ld. This week we struck a different tone. Listen here. Clearly, attorney general sessions doesnt have the competence of the president. Thats an Important Office in the country. After the election there will be seriously new discussions about a new attorney general. Reporter the judiciary chairman Chuck Grassley said he would have the time to hold confirmation hearings should he need to do that. The same time, there have been several key senators like john cornyn who said they dont believe anyone can be confirmed by the senate in the current climate. This is a question that will have to be put on hold until after the midterms. Fred . Uhhuh. Jeremy herd, well see if the president cares to consult the members of congress on what would work or not. Thank you so much, jeremy. Thank you be. Lets talk about all this here with me now, a cnn legal political commentator, ken kuchanelli. Something sessions we all know, has recused himself from. But if sessions was fired by the president , would that give mueller ammunition to bring obstruction of Justice Charges . No, i mean, sessions recusal has gone, this is not widely known, his recusal has been much broader than anything suggested by the regulation in which the special counsel is operating under. So theres theres no real claim that hes involved in this. Frankly, the president s frustration is that hes not involved in it. And i also agree with the earlier comment that no one, and this just speaks to the politics of the senate right now, not the president or attorney general sessions, no one could get through that process right now. No one could get the 50 votes plus the Vice President that would be needed to be confirmed. Literally, you couldnt name a person who could pull that off. But does anyone believe that that is of a concern for the president . That his would be an emotional response . Hes frustrated and angry at his attorney general for not protecting him and his firing really has very little to do with him thinking down the line about the confirmation of somebody else and really more of a response of his disappointment with sessions, right . Well, think of it this way, the decision to fire attorney general sessions would mean that the acting attorney general for the foreseeable future would be Rod Rosenstein who this president has expressed greater frustration with than the attorney general. So i dont see that happening. And look, we have seen i dont think this is new. We have seen bouts of frustration by the president with the attorney general, the attorney general has taken a very handsoff approach to the russia investigation. You note the president in his tweet that said, no collusion. And hes right. So far theres no evidence of any collusion, certainly the russians meddled in the election, but no collusion. And that is where his frustration really lies is that that continues on without resolution. Right. That we know of, no collusion. It hasnt been revealed in any fashion thus far, but, you know, the personal attorney but this has gone on longer than water gate with no evidence. An investigation is going to take as long as it has to take. I think all the former prosecutors and attorneys will tell you that its just going to take as long as its going to take. And that rudy giuliani, personal attorney of donald trump, is giving almost like an ultimatum. Get it over with in the next 60 days or so or get it done before the november midterms. And that way in the view of giuliani, mueller will show that he is not being partisan. I mean, is that a reasonable challenge to even make . I think that if that is going to happen, and there are no signs of it, it would happen before labor day. And the department of justice and whatever people think about muellers approach to various aspects of this, he has not really defied general policies of the department of justice. And one of them is to not take action in front of the election. And that typically means from labor day to election day. One of the reasons the democrats were so infuriated and with some legitimacy about the pop, if you will, by jim comey, weeks before the election on Hillary Clinton, is that it violated that policy. And that was part of why it was such a surprise. But that really isnt an argument to hold any water in this case because the investigation is going on for so long. And that it continues in the midst of the Midterm Elections is really immaterial, though. Yeah. Well, that isnt how they operate, though. The way they traditionally operate is that once you get past labor day, we wont see any major action taken before the election. That is the expectation. Thats the expectation that mueller operates under. And so far similar expectations hes abided by. So its being argued is the investigation would be put on hold for a couple months and then resumed after the Midterm Election . No, just nothing no public steps. No indictments, no advanced trials, no plea agreements, nothing, including not closing the investigation until after election day. And the idea is to maintain the status quo for the two months before the election. Blue the president s not on the ballot. I understand that. Right, but we both know this all affects the election. Its been a major subject of discussion. And frankly, impeachment is something a lot of the democrats are running on. So i still expect that policy to be respected. Mind you, i would rather see action taken because i think on the russian collusion front, the only action that is going to come related to the president is the acknowledgment there was no collusion. And even though there was meddling by the russians. Ken cuccinelli, thanks so much. And still ahead, the president arguing against his own impeachment saying if hes kicked out of office, the stock market will plunge and, quote, everybody will be very poor. Is that a real concern facing investors . Plus, the pope is set to address thousands of catholics this hour in ireland after referring to the Church Sex Abuse scandal as a failure. Listen to what he told fox news. Ill tell you what, if i ever got impeached, i think the market would crash. I think everybody would be very poor, because without this thinking, you would see you would see numbers that you wouldnt believe in reverse. Cnns senior economics analyst steven moore is joining me right now to discuss. So how much of that do you agree with . Trump says everyone would be poor. Hi, fredericka. I think we have to start with the truism that the market sure has liked donald trump in the white house. Since the day, remember, that day after the election, the market went up 700 points and its been on a nice ride ever since. I mean, stocks and equities are up 40 since election day. So that is about 5 to 6 trillion increase in wealth. So that is after inauguration. Then what about talk of or a potential for impeachment . So my point is that these policies that trump has been putting in place are very promarket. And proinvestor. And if we had look, i dont think impeachment is going to. I think the possibilities are pretty remote but he brought it up. He said if the scenario is such, everyone will be poor. So im saying if we did start to go through the impeachment process, i think it would be negative for the markets and distracts from it distracts from trumps ability to move forward with a lot of the agenda unfinished. Whether it is an infrastructure bill, immigration reform, which is a trade agenda, transportation, all these issues still need to be resolved. And it could of would grind the legislative process to a halt. So i think on balance it would be a negative thing. Now once of the things i would like to mention if i may, im old enough to remember, as i think you are, when bill clinton was under impeachment. And the it was interesting, by the way, the market had been on a whirlwind, upward climb during bill clintons presidency in the last few years. It didnt take a sizable hit. And the market did not fall during the impeachment process. And i would make a further point that one of the reasons the republicans got nowhere with the impeachment under bill clinton is because the economy was doing so well. The stock market was roaring and people said, why do we want to remove this guy . The economy is doing great, hes doing a great job. And i think that would be the reaction of a lot of americans under donald trump as well. You see the economy has being a potential deterrent to any action of impeachment here. Not necessarily. What i am saying is when things are going so well right now, and by the way, the report just came out a couple days ago that the economy is so far this quarter growing at 4. 5 . Thats a very rapid rate of growth. Im just saying, is this the right time to be pursuing the impeachment of a president when it comes to the economy who has done a phenomenal job . This has been a pretty tough week, though, for the president. No question. Right. And even with friends and close allies who now have these agreements, immunity agreements to share what they know. How, if at all, do you see that impacting the economy or impacting the prospects of the president s agenda as it pertained to the economy . You know, so far this process hasnt slowed the president down. As you were just talking about with my friend ken cuccinelli, this is an investigation going on for months and months and months, but it has not impeded with the legislative process. What im saying is if we move to a period of actual impeachment, then that would become disruptive. And i think it would be problematic and the markets would react negatively to that. How negatively, i dont know. One of the points made on cnn which is a valid point, i dont think donald trump will get removed from office. But if we her, mike pence would become the president and would follow many of the probusiness policies that trump has. So it wouldnt be that disruptive in that respect. All right. Stephen moore, always good to see you. Thanks so much. Have a great saturday. You, too. Happening right now, pope francis set to address tens of thousands of catholics in ireland. We continue to follow pope francis papal visit in ireland. Pope francis arrives as the Catholic Church is reeling from a sex abuse crisis. The pope is expected to enter a stadium for a concert. As many as 70,000 people are expected to show up for the concert. And speaking at a dublin castle, the pope offered simp tympathy. Translator the failure of the bishops and priests to adequately address these appalling crimes has given rise to our rage. And humans a source of pain and shame for the catholic community. I, myself, share those sentiment. Joining me right now is cnn senior vatican analyst john allen covering the popes visit. Good to see you. So the pope addressed the abuse scandal earlier today. Weve had a lot of catholics on the air here at cnn, and many of whom have said, this is a step but its not the answer. So what might be next for the pope in addressing this or the Catholic Church overall in addressing this . Well, fredericka, i thought maybe the best reaction, and this was before the pope spoke today, actually, the head of the theology faculty at the National Seminary here in ireland, thats where they train future priests. Its a place called minuth. They had a piece in one of the irish newspapers saying the irish Public Opinion was not going to be convinced by anything pope francis said until he addressed the elephant in the room, which is accountability, not for the sexual crime of abuse but for the coverup. We heard the pope mention it today, but he did not add me concrete details of how the accountability will be achieved. Most people today believe the church has strong accountability systems for clergy who sexually abuse minors. And we now know that applies to the for instance of top church including the former cardinal in the United States. But what does not have equally as strong punishment, equally strong accountability for superiors such as bishops who turn a blind eye. And that is what we are waiting to hear from folks. And that seems to be what people say they are longing to hear. Meantime well were talking, were seeing live pictures of the festival of the family where the pope will be performing. Performances taking place right now on stage. Overall, its taken, what, four decades now since the Pope John Paul who visited ireland. Why so long . You know, what what explains the big gap and then the crowd size that is quite sizable at this stadium and in the street the crowd has no
