Welcome back. Youre watching cnn to our viewers around the world and the u. S. , thank you for joining us. Im natalee allen in the United States. The outrage remains but the violence has waned in ferguson, missouri. Who are you . Mike brown. Demonstrators took to the streets of the st. Louis suburb friday night, but the protests were peaceful. The funeral is planned for monday for michael brown, the black teenager fatally shot during a confrontation with a Police Officer. A grand jury has begun hearing evidence in the case. Our Stephanie Elam joins me now live from ferguson. We just heard from captain ron johnson. Stephanie, what is the feeling there and what was his report . I think overall, natalie, when you take a listen, it was a successful report because things moved in the trend we have seen all week getting better. Listen to what he had to say about last night. Tonight once again foot traffic copied to be reduce along west florissant avenue. We had to respond to fewer incidents tonight. There were nom molotov cocktails tonight, no fires, no shootings and we did not seize a single handgun. Again tonight, we deployed no smoke devices, no tear gas and no mace. And again tonight, no Police Officer fired a single bullet. And also whats noteworthy here, as well is that there were zero arrests tonight up till this point. A change from where we saw from wednesday night when there were 47 arrests. I believe there were seven last night. The night before that six. Really moving down to no interaction. Moral positive interaction between the police force and row protesters and people from the Community Just out on street for sort of a it felt sort of like a block party, not as exciting as that but the energy out there was way more peaceful and much more calm. Natalee . Some people who came into ferguson who dont live there who came in from other parts of st. Louis just to show support. What did they have to say to you . Thats true. We saw i spoke to a white couple who came here from another pat of st. Louis. They just wanted to show their support and said the reception had been very strong for them as they were out walking around. Both told me they do believe that racial profiling happens and that they need to do something. The one thing they were very clear on is that race issues arent going to get better unless we Start Talking about them in america. They say this is not a problem thats just key to st. Louis but they said that has been reverberating under the surface for many, many years now. And it just finally bubbled over here. They werent totally advised this has happened but wanted to get out there to show support for the idea that if we could start working together as americans that maybe things will continue to get better. Thats what they wanted to hear. They said the reception out here was totally fine when they came out. Of course, meekal browns public funeral will be held on monday. That will likely spark more discussions. Whats expected from his funeral we know about . Right. We do know it will be in the late morning on monday. And we know that it is open to the public. We understand that the sanctuary can hold 5,000 people and theyre setting up overflow rooms, as well because they do expect such a wide ranging attendance for people to come say goodbye to this young man. If you think about it, this community hasnt had time to digest the loss of mike brown or to mourn his loss. And so there are a lot of people who have been waiting for this moment to actually reflect on the young man at the center of all of this activity over the last two weeks. Monday we should see that happen and cnn will be there. And we hope for quiet weekend until then. Thank you, of knee elam for us live in ferguson. We turn to iraq now. We want to warn you the video youre about to see is not just disturbing to see but also to listen to. It was taken during a horrific mass killing at a sunni mosque in iraqs deia la province. Suspected shiite gunmen fatally shot at least 70 worshipers and wounded at least 17 others. Sunni lawmakers blame shiite militias for the attack and have now walked out of talks aimed at creating a unity government in iraq. Were covering the story throughout the country. Anna coren is following developments in the north of the country for us. We will go to ana in a moment for the update on the fight against isis. Lets begin with jamana kaurn a couragea. What the fallout be as the country tries to unite under a new government to bring together the shiaen an sunni factions . Natalie this sort of attack was reminiscent of the sort of attacks that we used to see in iraq back in 2006 and 2007. At the height of the he cantarian violence. Whenever you see an attack like this here, theres always fear that this could reignite that vicious cycle of attacks and counterattacks that really drove the country to the brink of civil war back in those days, days known by iraqis as they call them as the dark days of iraq. Now, on the political scene this really complicates matters, too. As you mentioned, the sunni lawmakers, a number of main political sunni parties in parliament announced they are walking out, not taking part in the government negotiations until the. He were traitors of this attacking are arrested and brought to justice. After speaking to lawmakers last night. Theyre saying this is not an isolated incident that this is the late laest in a series of incidents they say targeting sunni civilians and no one they say has really been brought to justice and they have had enough they say that they have a duty to their constituents that they have to stand up right now even though this could really complicate the political process and the government formation process. And its really not clear right now natalie, if this is political posturing during this time of intense negotiations for government formation or if this is a move that will hold, but nonetheless, it really complicates matters, makes it a much harder task for a Prime Minister designate Hader Al Abadi who already has been facing big challenges to try and regain the trust of the sunni politicians, the Sunni Community to try and bring them on on board a key factor in the fight against isis is a unity government, a truly inclusive government that will include the untrophies to try and undo what Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki has done over the past few years. His sectarian policies have sidelined them in politics and the Security Forces, shia dominated Security Forces they say have persecuted them. This is going to be a tough one for haith hadider al abadi to ty and bring them back into the negotiating table. Right, because without this, what is left for iraq . Without some kind of government coming together, how can they possibly stand up to this spread of isis and the terror were seeing in parts of the country . Well, natalie, some see this government formation hater al r Haider Al Abadi as the last cannes for saving iraq right now. He needs to bring together the sunnis who were marginalized, the kurds who have gone into serious political disputes with baghdad. Its a very, very tough task. Weve seen in the past isis really does exploit a situation like this. It strives op sectarian divisions and it tries to ignite and reignite the sectarian war in this country. And unless you bring on the sunnis as we saw back in 2006 and 2007, u. S. Military strategy that basically recruited superny arabs in the fight against these extremists from within their communities, they turned on al qaeda and that really changed the situation here. So there is always fear that upless the sunnis are on board, that isis will have a place to strive and grow in iraq. Ja mon na karaj ji, thank you. New videos showed dozens of yazidi men being forceded to convert to islam. The video is said to have been shot in Northern Iraq. The yazidis are one of iraqs smallest and oldest religious minorities. In recent weeks, isis has stormed nz villages in Northern Iraq lead together death of hundreds and the displacement of thousands more and as you know, women and children have been taken. U. S. , iraqi and Kurdish Forces continue their battle against isis fighters in that part of the country. Anna coren joins me live in erbil with the latest from there. Certainly this country more so than baghdad has seen what isis can do. Ana . Yeah, thats right, natalee. Theres intense fighting go going on in so much of the country. The peshmergaen an iraqi forces trying to push back isis and the advances they have made. Yesterday, ja lala, the township of 50,000 people, 70 miles northeast of baghdad is where the focus of the fighting is taking place. Isis took over that township less than two weeks ago. That is a strategic place for the kurds because it links kurdistanton baghdad. So them are desperate to get it back. We understand through twitter one of isiss twitter accounts that 50 of its fighters were killed. They are vowing revenge. But its not just in ja lala and the surrounding areas that fighting is occurring. Up in mosul dam which is where we were earlier this week, there has been fierce fighting, even though whilst we were there with the peshmerga, we were confident they were able to push back the militants. It would seem that they are digging in and the u. S. Has been coming to the aid of the peshmerga up there. There have been 60 air strikes in total just around mosul dam. A total of 93 across the country conducted by the United States. But as i say, the majority of them up at mosul dam. This of course, natalie, despite the fact that isis has said if these air strikes continue, we will kill a second american journalist stephen sotloff. He was seen in that video after the gruesome beheading of james foley. Natalie . Yes, we have already seen the horror of what happened to jim foley. We know that the kurds are outgunned by isis troops. Well talk more about the power of isis coming up. Anna coren for us in erbil. The fight against isis is not restricted to iraqs borders. U. S. Officials say america is gathering intelligence on the movements of isis within syria and considering air strikes against isis targets there. Is and three years sense the start of the civil war in syria, new battles rage, this video posted on social media purportedly shows a battle between syrian soldiers and rebel fighters. We have been unable to verify the authenticity. The United Nations says the death toll in syria has at least doubled over the course of of a year. The u. N. Human Rights Office estimated more than 191,000 people were killed between march, 2011 and the end of april this year. The brother of james foley is speaking out about the beheading if of the american journalist by militants. Michael foley says the u. S. Could have done more to try to save him. We have extensive coverage ahead on Global Reaction to foleys death, the hunt for his killer and an interview with Michael Foley about his brother. And theres more coverage of the situation in ferguson, missouri, to come. Later, we will hear from children everyone ferguson. What are their thoughts after what theyve seen and heard . Plus, is this convoy sending aid or russian aggressioning into ukraine . You tell them how much you want to pay, and they help you find a policy that fits your budget. I told you to wear something comfortable this is a polyester blend whoa uh. Little help . I got you unh its so beautiful man should we Call Security . No, this is just getting good. The name your price tool, still only from progressive. A russian convoy has now crossed the border into Eastern Ukraine carrying what russia insists is humanitarian aid. Russia says it had approval to cross the border. Its a claim officials in kiev dispute. The map youre seeing now shows the journey this convoy made to the eastern ukrainian border. Is this russian aid or russian aggression. Cnns diana magnay has more from Eastern Ukraine. This russian convoy entered ukrainian territory without the permission of kiev and without the escort of the International Red cross. Who said they couldnt be guaranteed safe passage. So that means have you 227 russian trucks on ukrainian soil apparently filled with humanitarian aid although the icrc werent able to inspect more than 34 of the trucks that went through. Russia said it couldnt wait any more that the situation, the humanitarian situation in luhansk was so dire it had to move and move fast. There is no doubt that the situation there is dire. There is no running water. There is no electricity, Food Supplies are very low for those inhabitants who have braved the shelling and who have stayed in luhansk. But the fear remains this russian convoy is more than that, that it is a trojan horse brought in possibly to resupply the rebel who have been losing ground to the ukrainian advances in recent weeks. And it also means that the Ukrainian Army may have to put a hold on its military offensive at a time when it is really making significant inroads against the rebels in this conflictscarred corner of Eastern Ukraine. All the while, nato says russia is building up its troops once again on the border with ukraine. Diana magnay, cnn, ukraine. And coming up here on cnn, why hamas carried out a brutal and public execution of 18 palestinians. Hamasrun television says a man and a girl were killed and at least a dozen people were wounded in an israeli air strike on a house in gaza city, friday. Al aqsa tv aired video of rescuers scrambling to pull the victims from the rubble. Earlier israels Prime Minister warned hamas would pay what he called a heavy equipment for a attack on a parking lot that killed a 4yearold boy. The Israeli Military first said it was fired from the vicinity of a u. N. School in gaza used as a shelter. It later retracteded that saying the launch site was a school hamas you had as a shelter. Hamas operatives executed 18 suspected informants for israel to death in gaza friday as ian lee reports, the killings were brutal, swift and very public. And we warn you, some of the video youre about to see may be disturbing. Images of men sentenced to die. Hamas released these photo of gunmen clad in black with a guilty accused of treason by collaborating with israel. Their ite identities concealed possibly to avoid embarrassing their families or if theyre high ranking hamas members to hide the depth of penetration by israels Intelligence Service. We dont know much about these men. But what we do know is that the very public executions send a strong warning to other would be collaborators. No sympathy for the condemned found here. This is a good punishment for them. The executions come right after israeli air strikes killed three top commanders of hamass military wing. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the countrys Intelligence Service for the operation. Its unknown if these men were involved. The palestinians have long struggled with collaborators. In 2012, this video shows an accused man being dragged behind a motorcycle. A driver warns over would be turn coats of a similar fate. The question arises why would a palestinian betray his countrymen . Theres the obvious financial incentive as well as the potential for people to be blackmailed into becoming collaborators. Hamas has asked all those who fell in the mud of treason, to turn themselves he was in and said they would be shown mercy. We dont know what that mercy is. All Legal Proceedings have been kept behind closed doors. At least 18 accused have been executed so far. That number is likely to grow. Ian lee, cn n cnn,s go city. Were turning to the worlds weather. Rains have led to flash flooding in chicago, illinois. Ivan cabrera joins with us more about it. People getting to the Grocery Store on boats. Incredible scenes coming out of chicago, especially burbank southwest of chicago getting hit particularly hard. Look at the radar here in the last 24 hours. These were the thunderstorms that came in through the overnight hours. Always dangerous when you get rain in the middle of the night and people dont know how deep the water is. We got 4. 4 inches in four hours. An inch an hour. That is unbelievable amount of rain and their Monthly Average is five inches. You know what that did. A break now but i think we have more storms brewing on the way tomorrow. People getting around in boats. Thats exactly whats been going on here and drivers, my goodness, friday, you know, natalie specifically everybody trying to get to point b quicker than other typical days. And so it was quite a mess there in the chicago area. I dont think well get four inches in four hours tomorrow but i think additional rainfall could be problematic for some official flooding. Severe weather not out of the question. The storm prediction center, this bulls eye for damaging winds, hail, tornados, dakotas and western minnesota will be getting in on that. But the big story in the southeastern u. S. , you are begging for rainfall here because thats the only way youll cool off. Excessive heat warnings from st. Louis all the way down into the panhandle of florida. Were talking about temperatures that are going to be into the 90s. Because of the tropical moisture, it is going to feel like its about 105 to 110. So stay indoors. Notice washington, d. C. , 75 degrees.
