, we are getting word of the suspects of five killings in texas have not been captured. The fbi will hold the news very soon. The alleged killer was asked by neighbors to stop shooting before he turned the gun on them. A nineyearold boy and his mother or among those who were senses the kilt. The suspect is an undocumented immigrant who have been deported four times over the last decade, so we will get the News Conference to you as soon as it happens just a short time for now but that is where cnns at 11 there is in texas right now. It, what do we know about this arrest . We know that town of cut and shoot texas, which is about 10 to 11 miles north of where we are here in cleveland area texas, which is about an hours drive north of houston. In the four days that Francisco Oropeza has been on the run from Law Enforcement, he has not traveled a great distance. I think what we have seen over the last couple of days with patrols in the area, theres always this inclination, this thinking that the suspect, perhaps, did not travel very far from the area, even though fbi officials were saying earlier today that they have been following every possible lead and connecting with Law Enforcement contacts here in the state and across the country, even across the border because the suspect is a mexican national. That concern as always been that he has figured out some way of getting back South Of The Border to escape the pursuit of him here in the cleveland, texas area, but that appears to not be the case. I could tell you that ive been able to speak with two different Family Members of the victims that were killed and the friday night attack. Jefferson rivera, the longtime partner of one of the victims simply said in a quick phone call, as you can imagine, it was rather chaotic, for the family here in the last 30 minutes or so, as theyve been trying to process the news. He simply said that we are so happy. We also spoke to the brother law of garcia, have you seen in our coverage the last few days, he said they are still trying to figure out the Family Members, there is actually a video at the arrest, and they were looking at this video closely, trying to compare and see the tattoos on the suspect that they knew that he had. Theyre trying to figure out if this indeed is the suspect that they were looking for. Everything they said, all the tattoos they knew he had match so they seem very confident that this was indeed the suspect that was behind this brutal attack last friday night. What is also interesting in kind of speaks to the catholic situation of how quickly the news has unfolded here this afternoon is that none of the Family Members have spoken with say that they have a contacted. That communication from the families, the families of the victims, has not, from what i gathered so far, has not happened quickly. Clearly, you get a sense of relief from fellow members who have been doing with this ordeal for days. A sense of relief for the family and also for the people in the surrounding area, as the suspect was considered armed and dangerous. Ed, thank you very much. We will bring you that Press Conference as soon as it happens. Tonight, President Biden surt could result in economic catastrophe, and the others that may result in a massive surge at the border. The president ordering the department of 15 active duty troops to assist u. S. Border agents that are trying to manage a crisis that is likely to only worsen in the coming weeks. Approximately 2000 National Guard members, they are already there. The pentagon says that this new batch will start arriving as early as next wednesday. That is the eve of the end of title 42, the pandemic era Border Policy that has allowed the u. S. To turn away thousands of migrants and Asylum Seekers on Public Health grounds, and that order into effect in the trump administration, but it will expire next thursday on may 11th. The very same day that the National Covid emergency officially ends. Some Border Cities are bracing for impact, others, theyre already feeling it, like downtown paso, where shelters are overflowing, migrants are cant all over the streets, and that is where rosa flores is right now with those migrants who are out there a church south there. Rosa, can you describe for us, what is happening on the ground right now in el paso . What are those markets telling . If you know, abby, a lot of heartbreaking stories. Just to show you where i am, at the church that you are talking about is what you see behind me. All the streets around here are packed with migrants. The sidewalk where i am walking turns into a bed overnight for hundreds of migrants that dont have a place to go. Now, this family from venezuela is very gracious. They are willing to share their story with us. This is edwin and yes there. They are from venezuela. [speaking nonenglish] could you tell us why you left venezuela . [speaking nonenglish] she says that the situation in venezuela is very difficult and really what a lot of individuals like her want to do in the United States is work. [speaking nonenglish] she told me that she traveled about a month and i have to get here. I am asking, what was the most difficult part . [speaking nonenglish] [speaking nonenglish] [speaking nonenglish] she says that the worst part was going to the darien gap. She says that her family saw people who died in the jungle. [speaking nonenglish] where are you going to sleep tonight . [speaking nonenglish] she says that she and her children are going to be sleeping here on the street. I promise this little boy out ask a question, so ill ask the question, [speaking nonenglish] what is your dream in the United States . [speaking nonenglish] [speaking nonenglish] he says he wants to visit columbia. [speaking nonenglish] and he says that he loves pancakes, loves pizza, and he hopes to get an education in the United States. Abby, back to you. All right, marissa flores, that is an incredible interview to hear from those individuals. Thank you so much for bringing that to us. And now, lets get some perspective from chad wolf, the former acting Homeland Security secretary under president trump. Chad, thank you for joining us. I actually want to get your reaction to what we just saw there. Theres a lot of policy that i do want to discuss with you, but of course, there are people behind all of this. A woman and her two Young Children leaving venezuela, going through a force where they could easily have died to come to the United States, because what theyre fleeing is so terrible. What do you say to that woman and to her children tonight . Absolutely, there is a number of heartbreaking stories. Of course, you just showed one. There are many others. A lot of individuals that were to come to the United States, the greatest country in the world. There is a lot of opportunity here. We need to make sure that individuals who want to come here come the legal way and not illegally. I think that is what is driving the prices along that border. As we have heard, most one jobs, one economic opportunity. They want a chance at a better life. God love them for the, but again, we need to make sure that the legal pathways eight number of individuals can enter the country are the right way to do it, the orderly way. I think that is what is driving the crisis at the moment, is the number of illegal individuals crossing the border. We need to get them back on legal pathways, so that we have some control, order and process along the border. What youre describing, a legal pathway, will require congress to do something. Theyve declined to do that, failed to do that for many, many years now. What we hear from the republican side of the aisle, your side of the aisle, is that we want more border security, more enforcement at the border. Lets put that on the table but my question to you is, where is the compromise . What do you think republican ship on the table to offer to the other side that can get the country closer to actual progress on policy reform, Immigration Reform . I think its important to remember that there are always 70 different pieces that the u. S. Offers now for individuals to come in, work, visit and like. There are a number of legal pathways to date that are available to a number of individuals to come into the country. Yes, they can be reformed. Theres immense amount of fraud in those Visa Programs that really have not been altered in some decades. So, yes, Congress Needs to get to work on that, but the beginning of this, you need to secure the border and make that an orderly process. Theres no incentive for individuals to become vetted, to apply for different Visa Programs, if they can simply walk across the border, be released into American Communities and receive a work permit. We need to understand that there are legal ways to individuals so that we know who is coming into the country so that they are not a Public Safety front. They are not a National Security threat. I think that is important. I think that is what we lost sight of over the last 26 to 27 months here, when we dont know who is coming into this country, unfortunately, because of the crisis along that border. Ive heard you just say, we need to do the unfortunate part first, but it does seem like you are not going to be able to just do the enforcement and not deal with people like that woman we were just discussing, who are already here. Is it possible here that republicans would agree to do these things simultaneously, and what is stopping them from coming to the Negotiating Table with a real comprehensive plan here . Well, we see that there is actually a plan, and republicans in the house passed a couple of different bills. I think it will be on the floor next week. I think what you saw from this administration, which i have been critical of, i dont think that is a surprise, is that their way to deal with the Security Issue along that border is the talk about amnesty for individuals here. I think you got to get serious about stopping the current flow. Youve got to get serious about putting in measures that are going to secure the border so that you funnel people to legal ports of entry and air able to vet and check them out, so we understand who is coming in through the front door to do country. If you dont do the, and you really need to do that first and foremost, because we have seen, time and time again, facts show you, that if you dont do the, you will want to continue to reform legal pathways. It will not work at the end of the day. You need both, but i would continue to contend that you need to secure the border force, and then you can talk about reforming the various legal pathways to bring individuals into the country. Let me get you to respond to this from New York City mayor eric adams. Hes been talking about Texas Governor greg abbott, who has been busing migrants to the border democratic led cities. Notably without any coronation. Take a listen. Governor abbott, sit to washington, black mayor, to houston, black mayor, to los angeles, black mayor, to denver, black mayor. He passed over thousand subsidies to land here. I cannot ignore the fact that Governor Abbott sent markets only two cities with black mayors. It is undermining our cities. So, what is your response to that . Also, why isnt greg abbott, the governor of texas sending markets to other parts of the country, were actually, they might need people to come . There are so many parts of this country that are short on workers, agricultural workers, construction workers. Why is he not sending people to those countries to . You would certainly need to ask the Governor Abbott on the selection of where he sensed those buses, but it should be noted that the mayor of el paso is also sending buses of markets the places like timber and other places. I think what you see here is that texas has been bombarded over the last 28 months from this border crisis. They are out a shelter capacity, our sources, and they have been begging the federal government to step and and do its job. The federal government has refused to date, so theyve had to take these measures to move people out of the state of texas and moved him into areas that have Sanctuary Policies that will care for these individuals. It has also sparked a debate, right . You have the mayor of el paso, sorry, the mayor of New York City visiting a paso. Why is he doing the . He wants to understand the crisis that is impacting his city, and hes actually calling on the Biden Administration to do more at the end of the day. So i think its important that we now have bipartisan consensus but dont you think a little coordination is worthwhile here, even if that is the objective, to spark a conversation . Why not just give the cities a heads up . Sure, i think coordination is always to benefit. Anytime that you are moving maskers of individuals like this, i am all in favor of coronation. I dont think youll get any debate for me there. Again, what i think we are seeing here is we now have bipartisan consensus but from republicans a democratic marriage that the federal government needs to do something to stop this crisis because its not only affecting Rural Communities in the state of texas and arizona and along that border, but its not impacting big cities around this country as well. Of course, every community in america has been ravaged by fentanyl that is coming across almost exclusively across the southern border, controlled by the cartels. All right, chad wolf, thank you so much for joining us tonight, appreciate it. Thank you. And just moments from now, the fbi and texas, theyll be hosting a News Conference on the capture of the suspect in the killings of five people, including a nineyearold child. That suspect, the undocumented immigrant, who has been deported four times. Plus, the markets today falling as the nation inches closer to default, unless washington acts. The problem is, republicans in congress, they are not going to budge, and President Biden is already drawing a line in the sand. We will talk to a key economic player and the Biden White House next. May 9th, thats it they should have circled on your calendar, a meeting at the white house with President Biden congressional leaders from both parties is scheduled for that, and the mission is to agree on a plan to pay americas bills. The debt ceiling has been raised 78 times since 1960 and in a town where leverages power, how these meetings go is usually an indicator of the dynamic at that particular time, so take, for example, 2011.
