Welcome to your special fourth of july Holiday Edition of new day. Its monday, 6 00 in the east. Chris is off today. John berman joins me. Happy birthday, america. 240 years old. What do you get for a country that has everything, including Alisyn Camerota . I dont know. Thats a tough one. Up first, we need to tell you about the top story. Theres beefed up security for the big Independence Day celebrations after several terror attacks around the world in the past few days. This morning, the death toll soaring in baghdad in the deadliest attack there in years. What does this say about the capabilities of isis, blamed now for three gruesome attacks around the world in less than a week . We have this covered for you from every corner of the globe. Lets begin with deb feyerick along the east river. Good morning. Reporter morning, john. Morning, alisyn. This is where the fireworks are going to be taking place this evening. You can bet that Police Across the country in very close contact with federal agencies to assess the latest intelligence stream. Everybody is concerned about a possible terror attack, even though theres no credible evidence. After a series of deadly attacks overseas, u. S. Counterterror officials heightening security measures at socalled soft targets across the country. Including the july 4th fireworks displays tonight. We have a tight security plan for the fourth of july. Reporter in the nations capital, much of the dramatic increase in security will be hidden. We do have technology that folks will not see. Reporter the biggest Fireworks Show in america along new york citys east river with an estimated 3 million spectators, has the police in the big apple on high alert. You will see a very significantly enhanced Police Presence in the city. Reporter out on the water, officials patrolling the harbors around manhattan and conducting security dives along the fireworks barges. We are very, very vigilant. Well have exceptional nypd presence to keep everyone safe. Reporter the new york city mayor deploying 500plus highly trained, highly armed officers ready to prevent terror. The first fourth of july that Critical Response team will be out in full force. That sends a powerful message to anyone who might try and disrupt that we are ready to prevent that. Reporter tensions already high. It sounded like a cannon. Reporter after a small explosion in central park sunday left a tourists foot mangled. His foot is all but detached. His friends claim he was just walking down the rocks and stepped on something. Reporter that something believed to be an experiment with fireworks or a homemade explosive set off after a young tourist accidently stepped on it, according to the nypd. We believe this could have been put here as some sort of experiment. Reporter now, theres no evidence, john, that this was actually terror related. However, the jttf is investigating. They believe that this particular device, the explosives, were in the park for more than a day and it was shock sensitive. Theyre taking it very seriously. They dont believe its terror related. Meantime, you can bet that everywhere there are so many fireworks, so many concerts, so many people who will be out celebrating this july 4th that all police, all Law Enforcement agencies are going to make sure that this day goes off safely. John . Obvious concerns because of whats been going on around the world. Deb feyerick, thanks so much. We have breaking news. A horrific attack in baghdad. Officials there keep raising the death toll. They now say more than 200 were killed by a huge truck bomb at a busy shopping district, once again isis is claiming responsibility. Cnns Senior International correspondent ben weedman is in baghdad with the details. The death toll keeps on rising. Reporter yeah, and in fact, they are still finding bodies in these buildings around me. What was particularly devastating about this bomb, which we believe was in a refrigerator truck just on the street behind me, was that when it went off, it set off fires in all the buildings around it. These buildings full of stores with clothing, perfume, other flammable materials. So what weve seen since that bomb went off saturday midnight is that the death toll continues to climb. Still many families looking for their children. According to Iraqi Security officials, of the bodies recovered, 81 of them are completely beyond recognition at this point. Of course, people are very nervous. Just about half an hour ago, the police told everybody to clear out of there because there was a car nobody knew who it belonged to, and they were afraid it could have been a car bomb. So nerves very, very much on edge here. Back to you, alisyn. Understandable, ben. Thank you for that reporting. Also, we have some stunning new information to share about the terrorists in the bloody siege at that cafe in bangladesh. The father of one attacker coming forward now to talk. Also, were learning more about the 20 victims killed in that standoff, including three u. S. College students. Cnns alexandra field is live in dhaka with more. Alexandra . Reporter hey there, alisyn. Were now learning from police they have two suspects in custody. They say that both were injured during the attack at the bakery just down the road behind me. One of them has been identified already by police as the sole surviving attacker. It is not clear who this second person is. But we do know that police have identified all of these attackers as being bangladeshi. Five of them were known militants who they were out looking to arrest. These are men between the ages of 18 and mid20s. Theyre described as being upper middle class and educated. I spoke to the father of one of the youngest attackers just a short time ago. His son was 18 years old. The father says that his son had been missing from the familys home since february 29th. They had been in touch with police. They were looking for him. The father says he was fearful that his son had taken up with an islamist group. He says that his son never showed any signs of radicalism or extremism, and he describes the young man as somebody who is immature and impressionable. John . All right, alexandra. Thanks so much. We have new information this morning. A Suicide Attack just feet away from the u. S. Consulate in saudi arabia. Nic robertson is live in london with the latest. What can you tell us . Reporter yeah, john, this suicide bomber attacked and detonated his explosives when police approached him. He was in the car park of a major hospital, about ten yards away from the u. S. Consulate. This is situated in the middle of the city there. Unlike riyadh, where the embassy is behind multiple layers of the security in sort of an ambassad ambassadorial type area. This bomber, its not clear what his intention was to target, but the fact he was so close to the consulate is going to raise concerns that that was the target. It could have been much worse. Police discovered three more explosives in his vehicle. He detonated or was approached by the police and detonated his explosives about 3 00 in the morning. So in the early hours of the morning, the police sent in a bomb Disposal Team with a robot. They took apart the vehicle, took apart the explosives, detonated those other explosives. The consulate itself was targeted by gunmen back in 2004. No one has claimed responsibility for this attack yet. However, what we do know in saudi arabia is that there is a growing isis threat. More typically recently it has been targeting Saudi Security officers, even members of families have been killing their own family members if theyre in the Saudi Security services. So that is a growing threat. No claim of responsibility here yet. It could have been much worse. John, alisyn . Okay, nic. Thanks so much for that. So all these attacks, of course, raise concerns here at home on this fourth of july. Lets discuss whats going on behind the scenes with our cnn Global Affairs analyst and contributing writer for the daily beast kimberly doser, and cnn analyst michael weiss. Great to have both of you here on this holiday. Kimber kimberly, we always hear no Credible Threats of anything here in the u. S. , but i mean, how comforting is that given that there was no credible threat before orlando . Thats increasingly the terrifying part of this, that isis has learned how to cover its tracks. Its advising people who are inspired by it or directed by it, do not communicate in ways that the authorities can track. If youre going to Say Something about an operation, use an encrypted app. Better yet, dont tell anyone if youre in a place like the United States or europe. Keep it to a very small group of people or just keep it to yourself. That makings it that much harder for authorities to have any warning and give any warning to the public, which is why theyre urging just vigilance. You know, michael weiss, john brennan and other u. S. Officials making clear that obviously isis would attack the u. S. Here in the homeland if it could. When you look at the map of whats been blamed on isis or attributed to isis over the last week, you have istanbul, you have bangladesh, you have baghdad just over the weekend. You know, what capabilities does isis have here . We saw what happened in orlando. When it comes to the United States, its more about the isisinspired attacks. If you look at this rate of isis coordinated or isis directed attacks, what theyre trying to do is encourage people to do is go out and blow stuff up. In the United States, because of the geographical expanse, you have an ocean that separates us from the middle east. Its much easier to go to europe and conduct some kind of operation. Here, its about getting an 18yearold or a 22yearold watching these videos on youtube and getting them inspired to go out and blow up a school or a cafeteria with a Pressure Cooker bomb or to just spray machine gunfire into an open crowd. So what isis likes to do, i call them the subeditors of the International News cycle. They want to hijack the narrative. If they lose ground in fallujah, if they lose a village in syria, they dont want you talking about that. They want you talking about this. They want you talking about bangladesh, istanbul, and wherever else theyre going to strike next. Kimberly, lets talk about that. A lot has been made theyre losing ground, losing some of their physical territory, and they wouldnt be able to have a base of operations anymore in fallujah. Do they need a base of operations given that they can just send out word and then a lone wolf can do something . Thats exactly what the cia director and other intelligence officials are saying. It doesnt take much to carry out aterrorist attack. It costs maybe 500 for a single attack. So as they lose territory in raqqah, theyre already moving a lot of their operations and people with the expertise to train future attackers to places like libya. There are already Training Camps there which u. S. Intelligence fears will train cells to go to europe, joining cells they think are already planted there, either waiting for a signal or if they lose communication with the headquarters in raqqah, they can act on their own at a time of their choosing. Michael, do you think this wave of terror, again, the three that happened overseas, perhaps even orlando, that this is coordinated in the timing . Do you think isis wanted all of these attacks now . A lot has been made of the fact this is ramadan. Well, rahm dmadan is always time in which theres an uptick in terror atrocities. Their spokesman encourages muslims to commit these attacks during the holiest period in the islamic calendar. With respect to a direct coordination, do i think that the guys in bangladesh are in communication with with the guys in turkey, and theyre in communication with the guys who just blew up the neighborhood in baghdad . No, not necessarily. By the way, that doesnt make them any less dangerous. No, with respect to isis, this is still an army that has 20,000 to 30,000 active operatives and agents throughout syria and iraq. Abroad, we dont know the numbers. Thats whats so dangerous. With al qaeda, it was only ever a couple hundred people. That took, you know, over a decade to try and decimate their ranks. Isis is more dangerous. When they have territory, they can lay claim to being a nation state. That is the key here. You have to shrink their socalled caliphate to deprive them of their resources but also the symbolic value of actually governing and controlling a large swath of land in the middle east and all these people. Kimberly, the details of these attacks are just so sickening. The one in baghdad, i mean, 200 People Killed, many of them children. These were people in this middle class neighborhood, they were just out celebrating the end of ramadan, and they were at a market, at stores. I mean, families also celebrating the end of their children getting out of school for the year. Ideologically speaking, this attracts people . I mean, the idea to kill children. In what sort of perverted ideology does that appeal to people . What isis has tried to do is kick up a sectarian war. And it said so. It said we were aiming a the a shiite neighborhood. They want to spur the militia groups on the shiite side to attack sunni communities and kick off a war that you wont need isis fighting back and forth anymore. You will have ordinary citizens within iraq fighting each other again, just like it was in the battle days when the u. S. Troops were there. So what they tell their followers is the reason that children were killed, if they even ask, is, well, they were shiite or they were innocents, so theyll go to heaven anyway. Thats one of the excuses often given by terrorist groups for attacks like this. Just incredible. Thank you for all of that context. Its great to have both of you with us here this morning. Thank you. Lets talk politics now, shall we . The two presumptive president ial nominees facing political controversy this morning. Hillary clinton sat down with the fbi for more than three hours this weekend facing questions about her use of a private email server while secretary of state. And donald trump facing new questions about a tweet he sent this weekend that included an d antisemitic imagery. Joe johns is live in washington, d. C. That really heated up over the weekend, images tweeted by donald trump of what appeared to be a sixpoint star of david with pictures of hundred dollar bills, calling the former secretary of state corrupt. Now, it looked like a representation of a star of david, was later deleted, replaced without comment by the campaign. Very similar to an image that had been posted ten days earlier on a french message board that carried antisemitic conspiracy theories. Critics, including the National Director of the Antidefamation League, calling the image offensive and alarming. The campaign has not commented on the tweet, but Donald Trumps former Campaign Manager Corey Lewandowski said on cnn that the image was the same star that sheriffs departments use and that people were reading something into the tweet that was not there, calling it Political Correctness run amok. A longawaited moment for Hillary Clinton and her campaign, an interview with the fbi lasting about 3 1 2 hours over the email controversy that has dogged the campaign. Shes been saying for months that she wanted to get this over with and said on msnbc after the interview it was something she was eager to do. Though quite frankly, this comes at a very difficult time for her campaign. Just weeks away from the democratic convention. No details on what Hillary Clinton said to the fbi as that investigation continues. Alisyn . We will be talking more about that interview with the fbi in our program. Joe, thank you very much. Also, more about that controversial tweet, what does it mean two weeks before the Republican Convention . Our panel is going to be here to break all of that down next on this special july 4th edition of new day. 4 by 4 those who jump start the weekend. The ones who want to see it all. Hear it all. And feel it all. All summer long. Jeep renegade its how we live 4 by 4 summer. Wannwith sodastream®er . You turn plain water into sparkling water in seconds. And because its so delicious, youll drink 43 more water every day. Sodastream®. Love your water. By finding a policy to fit your budget. [ coughs ] sorry, tickle in my throat water would be nice, but that would go right through me. Ghost problems. New questions this morning about donald trump, twitter, and antisemitism. This weekend, donald trump sent out a tweet, not a retweet mind you, but a tweet that used an antisemitic image. Donald trump took down the tweet but has said nothing objeabout or how he used that image to begin with. You know, maggie, this is tweetgate part nine or ten for donald trump. But this image went out. The campaign pulled it down. Obviously they knew something was amiss. There was a reason why they pulled it down. First they changed it to the circle. They changed it from the star of david to the circle. But theyre not saying how donald trump ended up this with image to begin with, an image that had previously gone out on these Message Boards. How did donald trump get it . The campaign is not saying. Dont they owe an explanation to how and why they used this original image . I saw what Corey Lewandowski said yesterday on state of the union. Hes echoing what the campaign does seem to feel. Lets play it, just so everybody hears how he defended what this was. Listen to Corey Lewandowski yesterday. Look, a tweet is a simple tweet. The bottom line is you can read into things that arent there. You know, this is a simple star. To make an accusation, its the same star that sheriffs departments use across the country to represent Law Enforcement. To read into something that isnt there is, again, the Mainstream Media trying to attack donald trump for something that isnt there. Take it away. First of all, when it started out as a sixpointed star for sheriffs badges, it was a specific reason. It was because that was the easiest construct with metal. This is also the star of david. It was featured over a big pile of money. That is why people looked at this and said, this feeds into stereotypes and turned out that the image didnt originate, i think, on that website. It started on someones twitter feed a couple days earlier. But that twitter user is also known for stating offensive views. This is a pattern that we have seen with trump over and over where trump does not want to apologize for anything. He does the want to say, i made a mistake or own it. So the Campaign Just shuts down and waits for it to pass. Even if you take everything that lewandowski said at face value, which is people are reading in, he didnt mean to do this, this is just an image, once you find out that, okay, but people are offended by this, the issue for trump becomes not addressing it at all, and you have a pretty broad group of people now saying you have to actually say this is offensive and a problem in order to shut down those who hear this as a dog whistle. That is what he has refused to do this whole time. What does this say about the Trump Campaign and their social Media Outreach and how theyre finding things and what theyre putting out . To me it confirms what a lot of people feared, which is that perhaps the campaign and the candidate himself dont have a problem with screwing around with some of these farright elements. When you read in the Washington Post that some of these farright groups have said, you know, hes one of us, hes sending us the right signal, we like this, were going to try and mobilize for this candidate, anybody in mainstream politics, the world of real politics who isnt horrified by that, who isnt disgusted by that, who doesnt at least privately demand that the campaign clarify and speak up about this, i think is being so irresponsible as to take him into the realm where Hillary Clinton wants him to be, which is not really qualified for this job. I think these are disqualifying kinds of actions to not speak up and say it was a mistake, it was an intern, i dont know what this is about. Say something. But to say nothing, and even as again, its in the Mainstream Press now. Even as the farright groups are saying, go, donald trump, thats the signal we like to see, i dont know where they think theyre going to take this country or take this convention or take politics with this, but i dont think its going to work. Two points. Just to be clear, someone had to go actively get this image. You know, donald trump didnt sketch this out himself. Someone in the campaign or donald trump himself went to this website or went to the previous twitter account that had trafficked this kind of material, cut and pasted into his own feed. So this was an active action the Trump Campaign needs to explain. Second of all, this happened on a weekend that should have been a no good, terrible weekend for Hillary Clinton. She sat down with the fbi for more than three hours answering questions about her email server. A president ial candidate had to face questions by the fbi. That in and of itself is a horrible story. And if you were donald trump, it would be what you wanted the focus to be on for several days. It could have been for several days. While you will hear that trumps people will blame the Mainstream Media and say this is all just a creation to try to get him, if any candidate think if mitt romney had done a single one of the things that donald trump has done and stirred outrage over in the last several months. He would have been pill laired and it would have gone on and on. I think youre seeing basically trumps inability to change his own style is hurting him. Were going to be talking to one of the top guys from the Trump Campaign shortly in the program. Obviously we will ask all about this. But lets talk about Hillary Clintons sitdown with the fbi. What if the worstcase scenario plays out . What if they do charge her with something . Whats the contingency plan the democrats have . I cant imagine what it would be. Break glass. Yeah, thats a pretty devastating what if. We dont know what the fbi is thinking about. We dont know what theyre looking at. We dont know what problems there might be. You know, all of this is based on stuff that the public cant possibly know, even the best sourced reporters, i think, cant really know what it is theyre putting together. But since you asked the hypothetical, the absolute worstcase scenario, conventions, as weve talked about, can name whoever it is they want. Its all been going in one particular direction, but if we all end up in philadelphia and it turns out, for whatever reason, the candidate could get hit by a bus or something. Heaven forbid. If the candidate is not available for some reason, then you know, well all have a lot of extra work to do in philadelphia. Bad case scenario, its already killed her honest and trustworthy numbers. Even without an indictment it is causing problems. All right. Thank you, have a nice holiday. Fireworks shows will have thousands, of course, looking to the skies tonight. We have an update now on that terrible alligator attack at disney world. The father of this 2yearold boy who was killed by the attack at that resort says a second alligator attacked him as he fought to save his son. According to the orlando sentinel, matt graves, the dad, shared the details with authorities as they brought him to the hospital for treatment that day. What the rain and clouds do across the northeast, d. C. Only to 72, new york city today a beautiful 82 degrees. John . Patriotic advice from chad myers. Thanks so much. A series of deadly attacks, isis taking responsibility for several of them, this as the group gets squeezed out of areas it controls in syria and iraq. Is it shifting strategy . Well ask the u. S. Military next. This morning three countries reeling after isis attacks in the space of one week. Terrorists attacked turkey, bangladesh, and iraq, leaving hundreds of people dead. This as isis continues to lose ground in iraq and syria. Joining us now is the spokesman of the antiisis coalition in iraq. Colonel, thank you so much for being with us on this fourth of july. Thank you, alisyn. Wed like to extend a happy Independence Day to everyone back in the United States. And to you as well there. So this baghdad attack just sounds god awful, colonel. At least 200 People Killed, including many children. These were this was in a middle class neighborhood. These were families that had come together for the weekend to celebrate together. It was the end of the school year. It was families just doing what we all hope that we can do, and they were slaughtered. Does it when Something Like this happens, does it give you pause as to whether your mission is working . Well, it certainly gives us resolve as to why we must accomplish our mission. As we saw and we have seen before, isil is a group of terrorists who will attack us in any of our capitals, in any of our countries, anywhere across the globe given the opportunity to do that. The iraqis, unfortunately, saw that, but we also saw that in bangladesh. In turkey weve and seen bombings, in paris,s in brussels. Weve also seen people inspired by this terrorist group that conduct attacks in the United States. It certainly gives us resolve as to why we must accomplish our mission and defeat them here in iraq and syria. Lets talk about that. These three attacks in the space of one week in different continents. Asia in bangladesh. Turkey, that straddles asia and europe. What do you think of the scope of isis . It feels as though its expanding. Well, isil is a global problem. Weve known its a global problem. Theyve wanted to have Global Impact for the last two years. As they get squeezed in iraq and syria, as we take terrain away from them and defeat them and they have not won a battle in iraq in the last seven months. Ever since the fall of ramadi last year, they have not won a battle, and they have only lost ground. Theyre trying to remain relevant on the global stage, and theyre trying to show that as they attract crazies and sickos from across the globe, theyre trying to show that, hey, were still a viable threat, were still a viable force. Thats why, again, its important we defeat them here to help cut down this exportation of terror across the globe. And your mission, of course, is to shrink that physical space that they occupy. But how important is physical space, since it does seem as though regardless of physical space, theyre able to perpetrate these global attacks . Well, its important because they declared themselves an independent country, when they call a caliphate, in between iraq and syria. Kind of between the space that wasnt being governed very well, and they conquered some more space. Theyre showing, or trying to show, the crazies around the world, hey, we are a viable state. This is the caliphate as its been declared. You need to come to us, and we will train you and make you a foreign fighter as we call them here. We have to break that. We are not only trying to beat a force on the battlefield but beat an ideology as well. Were trying to prove that isil does not have anything of value to offer the world. Thats why we have to defeat them. Colonel, some in the military have suggested the air campaign that youre a part of, obviously leading, is not as effective as it could be. Barbara starr sat down with the air force chief of intelligence, who said on a scale of one to ten, he would only give it a five. Let me play for you what he said about this. I would give us a five, which means we have a lot of work to do. The problem is not having enough fighter jets to drop bombs. The problem is having enough legitimate targets that we can strike that can put isil on their heels. Colonel, is that a problem, which is not having people on the ground to point out exactly where the fighters are and the targets, to make the air campaign more successful . Well, we do both what we call dynamic targeting, which is the targets that develop in the middle of the fights, and we do deliberate targeting, which is as our intelligence finds those viable targets, as he was just talking about just there, we then go in and strike those targets. But were being very careful about hitting civilians. Were being very careful about making sure when we go attack something that is isil, its what we want to attack. We have a very stringent vetting process to make sure were hitting exactly what we think were hitting. In the middle of nights, well roll fighters in, in support of the Iraqi Security forces and in support of our opposition partners in syria and attack targets that way. But it is its something were constantly working at and constantly working to get better at. So absolutely its something were continuing to improve. Colonel, thank you for your time today. We wish all of you there on the front lines a happy fourth of july. Thanks for being here. All right. Thank you, alisyn. Lets get over to john. I mean, it meant a lot to all of us guys, especially this morning getting to go and hang out with the troops. I thanked those guys for what they do for us. None of us would be here if it wasnt for them protecting us. It means a lot to put on a show for them. This is an incredible thing. Its an eyeopening experience for us and a reminder which we need all the time of the sacrifices the men and women in the military make for us. Not only did hines get to go to the game, he got to go up in a plane with the Golden Knights and jump out of it. Guys, he called this his initiation to cnn. John and alisyn, i dont know about you, but i did not have to jump out of a plane to join the team at cnn. Lucky for me. I dont know if i would have been able to do it. Hes got a lousy agent. I didnt have to do that either. Right. That would have been a deal breaker for some of us but not him. Andy, thank you very much. All right. Donald trump days away from announcing his running mate. Now a rising star in the Republican Party is said to be on his short list. But is she ready for this . Well tell you who she is and who the other picks might be. Joining us now is cnn political analyst and correspondent for the new york times, maggie haberman, and cnn political commentator, eril lewis. Lets put up the list thats being floated of possible donald trump running mates right now. You can see all the faces right there. I want to highlight two that really are the most current in terms of wild speculation at deliberate links. Senator joni ernst of iowa, who were told in the last 24 hours shes definitely on the list and being vetted. And mike pence, who played golf this weekend with donald trump in new jersey. Whats going on here . Ernst is definitely new. She was not seriously being vetted as of last week. In fact, she was at some kind of Republican Senatorial retreat a couple weeks ago or a week and a half ago and seemed almost disappointed according to one attendee that she was not being vetted. So that is definitely a change. Look, as ive had it said to me, there is no consensus candidate in trump land. There is no top choice. It was described it last week that Newt Gingrich is a top choice. Thats not my understanding. He is being vetted, as is chris christie. Remember, youre dealing with donald trump, who is famously mercurial. He keeps his own council. If people said, this is what you should do, you could see him doing the exact opposite. Were not going to have clarity on this for a couple more days. But joni ernst is pretty strateg strategic. A woman, she might be able to deliver iowa. Shes obviously a conservative. Is that a good, wise choice . Sure, sure. The other thing that a traditional pick would bring is the ability to do combat, including on television. Shes pretty feisty. Shes shown her chops pretty well. Another good reason to think about her. Then to the extent that donald trump in the polls seems to have a major problem attracting women, this takes a little bit of the shine off that. Frankly, even takes a little off of Hillary Clintons potential to make history by saying, look, one way or another, a woman will be either the president or Vice President. So come make history with us in this particular way with this conservative woman. Maggie said something i dont want to let slip by. We could learn something in the next couple days. The timing is upon us. The Republican Convention is in a couple weeks. Were running out of days here. Joni ernst is also a combat veteran. That would make her much more appealing, or she might just be a veteran. Im not positive she served. But she balances out in terms of military experience, where hes certain in terms of lacking. Originally, trump wanted to do this during the convention. Then he realized that was not going to be great. It would likely overshadow Everything Else that happened. He wants this convention to be pretty memorable. Were now looking at, you know, a ticking clock of the next ten days or so. Hes johns favorite moment from this weekend. In reference to whether or not Newt Gingrich is going to be chosen. Watch this. Id like to ask one question before we begin. Newty going to do it . Thats all i want to know. I want to get to the important things off the bat. I think he needs the help, yes. Joe biden going off script. Newt gingrich in the audience there. Joe biden was heckling Newt Gingrich. From the stage. Reverse heckling. I couldnt tell what Newt Gingrich said. He said, should i. Basically he said should i. Pretty good question. Should he do it . From the point of view of the candidate, of the main candidate, Newt Gingrich brings some pluses and some minuses. He was there for the impeachment. He drove some important parts of moving the Republican Party forward. Perhaps with hindsight, more of the party might appreciate what Newt Gingrich brought to the table. He, of course, has been famously divisive and controversial within the party. The other thing he brings is the history professor Newt Gingrich, the guy who likes to speculate and freelance on issues, the guy who likes to think for himself and maybe surprise and startle people a little bit. You dont necessarily want that in a Vice President. Were three weeks away from the democratic convention. Hillary clinton has to pick a running mate also. Lets put up the board there of some of the people being considered. Maggie, any sense of whos in the lead right now . They seem to be playing this close to the vest. Theyre playing this close to the vest, as is the trump team, to be clear. I think tim kain, based on all my reporting, is the likeliest choice at the moment, bearing in mind this could change. Despite the fact of the 160,000 gifts he disclosed. Thats not baggage enough to be disqualifying. Its going to come up, and it will be a problem. If you pick cory booker, youre going to get attacked that hes too close to the same donors that shes attacked to being close to. I think theyre concerned about having two women on the ticket. Hillary clinton continues to have some problem with working class white voters. Not all of the party has coalesced after Bernie Sanders has effectively ended his campaign without endorsing. Tim kain could help them with a lot. Progressives, though, a lot of progressives not fans. They believe progressives are pretty much coming back into the fold anyway. Maggie, eril, thank you. Great to have you guys here. Were following a lot of news this morning. Lets get right to it. Beefed up security for the big Independence Day celebrations. We have a pretty tight security plan r if the fourth of july. A suicide bomber struck baghdad. Officials there expect the death toll still to rise. Isis claimed responsibility for the bombing. A scene of total devastation. Donald trump facing new questions about a tweet that included antisemitic imagery. This tweet originated in a white supremacist website. This is Political Correctness. Hillary clinton came to fbi head quarters. Should she step aside if there is a finding . Thats something to me thats not even within the realm of possibility. A toxic algae bloom at some of floridas beaches. Its decimating our waterways. The smell, the look, everything about it is absolutely disgusting. This is new day with chris cuomo and Alisyn Camerota. Green algae, thats bad timing for the fourth of july celebration. Algae bloom, two words you never want to hear back to back. Agree. Sounds like a villain from a superhero movie. An organic horror film. Yes. Good morning, everyone. We will be explaining this story in more depth to you momentarily. Welcome back to a special fourth of july Holiday Edition of new day. Chris is off this morning. John berman joins me. Arent you lucky . Yes, i am lucky, john berman. But we do begin with a story on so many peoples minds. Stepped up security for the Independence Day celebrations. This comes after, of course, several terror attacks around the globe in just the past few days. The death toll is soaring in baghdad in the deadliest attack there in years. What does this all now say about what isis is capable of . Blamed for three gruesome attacks around the world in less than a week. Weve got this covered from everywhere. Lets begin with deb feyerick live along new yorks east river. Thats where fireworks will be held tonight. Deb . Reporter absolutely, and this is where 3 Million People will descend to watch this incredible show. Its the unknown threat that has Law Enforcement across this country exceptionally worried. Its that selfradicalized extremist who wants to make a statement. Thats why youre going to have police out in full force from coast to coast. Reporter and it was a very dangerous experiment. The nypd bomb squad saying it doesnt appear the device had an intent to harm and may have been in the park for as long as a day. But it was not terror related. Thats the initial assessment. But theyre looking at it very, very closely. Again, police are taking no chances. Theyre going to be investigating everything, and theyre going to be trying to keep the streets safe when people come here to this area where the fireworks are going to be, theyll go through check points. Theyre really going to funnel people in different directions. And theyre going to be checking just to make sure that nobody gets in whos not supposed to be here. John . Obvious concern because of whats been going on around the world lately. Deb feyerick, thanks, on the east river. Breaking news from iraq. The death toll there nearly doubling after an attack at a busy shopping district. Cnns Senior National correspondent ben wedeman is live where that attack took place. Ben, so deadly. I know the families there just suffering such grief this morning. Reporter at this point, according to iraqi authorities, john, more than 200 people dead. That number is expected to rise. One of the problems is that people are worried about, you know, they cannot find their relatives of the bodies theyve been able to recover. 81 are so burnt they cannot be recognized. Theyll have to be put to dna tests to find out who exactly they are. Weve been watching as other people have been collecting basically pieces of charred flesh, putting them in plastic bags, and taking them to a hospital because nobody has any way to identify these people. Of course, in addition to just the shock and the trauma of what has happened, theres a lot of anger because many iraqis feel the government has failed them. Yesterday we saw when the Prime Minister came here, he was driven out of this neighborhood by angry residents, throwing battles and rocks, accusing him of simply failing to do what is needed to stop this sort of attack. Alisyn . Ben, its just terrible to look at the scene behind you, still unfolding there during this investigation. Thank you for that reporting. There are new revelations in the bloody terror attack at that bangladesh cafe. Cnn learning the attackers killed the hostages within 20 minutes of storming the cafe. Investigators learning this new information from the hostages that they were able to rescue in that 11hour standoff. Two people injured in the siege are now considered suspects. 22 people died in that attack. New this morning, a Suicide Attack just feet from the u. S. Consulate in saudi arabia. Cnn International Diplomatic editor Nic Robertson has more. Reporter yeah, john, this could have been much worse, it appears. This lone suicide bomber walking, wandering around a hospital car park thats right next to the u. S. Consulate at 3 00 a. M. In the morning. You might think the streets would be deserted, but its ramadan. That time of night in saudi arabia, theres a lot of people on the streets. But the Police Spotted him acting suspiciously, approached him. He detonated his explosives. Two officers slightly injured, taken to hospital for treatment. When the bomb squad was brought in, they found that the vehicle he had with him had three other bombs in it. Of course, ten meters from the wall at the u. S. Consulate, it could have been done damage there. No one in the consulate was injure ed in the initial explosion. The bomb disposal squad brought in a robot to identify and destroy those other bombs. There was an attack on that consulate back in 2004. The consulate itself is in the middle of the city. The embassy in riyadh is in a much more secure location. Theres rings of security, Diplomatic Security around that area. Here it seems that the bomber was able to get right up to the wall. It could have been much worse. At alisyn . Absolutely. It is shocking how close he was able to get. Lets discuss what these attacks mean here at home. Joining us now is democratic congressman jim hines. Hes also a Hillary Clinton supporter. Congressman, thanks so much for being with us on this holiday. Good morning, alisyn. So weve been told throughout this week that there is no credible intelligence on any attack that might be planned here in the u. S. , but thats cold comfort for many people given what we saw in orlando and now around the globe. How much stock do you put in the no credible intelligence thought . Well, a little bit. A little bit in the sense that, look, a lot of the stuff that happens, particularly that stuff that happens with relatively limited numbers of people involved, without the use of, you know, Communications Ne networks, without people traveling to some foreign country to get training, some of the stuff doesnt get picked up. Thats the harsh reality of the situation. Obviously bigger plots that do involve lots of people do get picked up and do get stopped. Now, oftentimes the public doesnt hear about those events, but as we saw in the Boston Marathon bombing and of course in orlando or San Bernardino, those people who are working more or less alone are going to have a reasonable shot of causing some mayhem. So do you worry tonight about people going out for big gatherings at these fourth of july celebrations . Well, you do worry. Again, as good as our Intelligence Community is, as good as our Law Enforcement people are, they cant stop everything. But people need to keep things in perspective here. You know, you sort of forget theres an entire transeuropean soccer tournament being played right now with finals and tens of thousands of people gathering without incident. Were all keeping our fingers crossed. Obviously Law Enforcement is working very, very hard right now. Hopefully today comes off without incident. The message is twofold. One, people cant let the chance of some kind of event keep them from living their lives. That is exactly what the terrorists want. Secondly and importantly, people need to be vigilant. There have been attacks foiled, including one in times square, because people were alert, keeping their eyes open, and they actually helped stop an event. So my advice is enjoy a wonderful fourth, but keep your eyes open. So when you say keep your eyes open, in other words, when people go out to fourth of july events tonight, if they see anything suspicious, they should what . Its like they say in the new york subways. If you see something, Say Something. This event in saudi arabia that you were just talking about, of Course Police observed a guy Walking Around in a parking lot at 3 00 in the morning. If you see something that looks a little out of kilter, talk to somebody. Let Law Enforcement know. In all likelihood, its nothing, but Law Enforcement will not be will not feel bothered because you raised your hand and Say Something looks a little strange. We hear from the military as well as many of our leaders here that the fight against isis, at least in terms of territory, is going well. That fallujah has been liberated. But one of your colleagues, congressman nunez, says that he feels that we are exaggerating these successes against isis. Let me play for you what he said about this. Theres a lot of victory laps being done because people are talking about the percentage of land in iraq and syria that somehow is now not part of isis control. At this point, a lot of that is not under anyones control except probably the kurdish area. Isis just conducted a massive attack in bangladesh. They just conducted an attack in orlando. So to try to say that somehow were winning this right now, i think, is just far fetched. Congressman, whats your response . Well, i havent seen anybody doing any sorts of victory laps. Im not quite sure what chairman nunez meant by that. Well, you know, we have heard leaders say, look, in terms of territory, its shrinking. Isis isnt going to be able to have their base of operations. There is a feeling good news had been coming out certainly after fallujah. Yeah, theres a difference between reporting the facts that isis now controls one heck of a lot less territory in syria and iraq than they used to a year ago. Thats not a debatable fact. Thats not the same as a victory lap. However, i will say and a number of people have made this point is as they get squeezed militarily, they will look to create more spectacular attacks that make the press through terrorism. Remember, terrorism is a tool of the weak. When you go into a soft target, a train station or into a public event with a weapon and you kill a couple people, that is not an illustration of military strength of military capability. This is something you do to scare a lot of people, to try to draw attention to yourself. So again, im not sure this needs to get political, the way chairman nunez was framing it. I dont see victory laps. The fact of the matter is the allied forces are taking the fight in a very big way to isis. Theyre now down to a lot less territory, but that does not mean we can be complacent about the need to be vigilant here at home or in europe or anywhere elsewhere they may attempt a terrorist attack. And it also doesnt seem to mean that they need a big base of operations. When you look at the death toll here, istanbul at the airport, 44 People Killed. Bangladesh, 22 dead, including two police officers. And then of course this horrific attack in baghdad. At least 200 people dead, many of them children. So i guess the question is, does the fact that their territory is being squeezed, does it matter . They can still pull these off. Well, it certainly matters. Yes, it is true that as we observed in the San Bernardino attacks and quite possibly in the orlando attack, it is not necessary for these people who are radicalized or are trying to hitch their wagon to isis to do the deeds they want to do with without necessarily spending a lot of time on the phone or sending emails to isis in syria or iraq. That communication doesnt need to happen. So yes, they dont necessarily need a wide base of operations. That doesnt mean that i would equate necessarily the baghdad attacks. Look, baghdad for a long period of time has been a place of chaos. But thats very different than being here in the United States where Law Enforcement, where government exists and where Law Enforcement is much more capable than they are in a place like baghdad. Congressman, thank you very much for taking time on the further of july to share your thoughts with us. Take care. Lets get over to john. Thanks, alisyn. The republican and democratic conventions just weeks away, both presumptive nominees trying to squash major controversies this morning. Hillary clinton fresh off a threehour sitdown with the fbi over a use of a private email server while secretary of state. Donald trump facing accusations of antisemitism over a tweet. Joe johns is in washington. Lets start with donald trump and twitter. Reporter good morning, john. A lot of politics over the weekend. Controversy over those images tweeted by donald trump of what appeared to be a sixpointed star with pictures of hundred dollar bills, calling the former secretary of state corrupt. Now, that image, which looked like a representation of a star of david, was later deleted and replaced without comment by the campaign. Very similar to an image that had been posted ten days earlier on a french message board that carried antisemitic conspiracy theories and neonazi ideology. Critics, including the director of the antideaf nation leagfam calling it offensive. Former Campaign Manager Corey Lewandowski said on cnn that the image was the same star sheriffs departments use and people reading something into the tweet that wasnt there calling it Political Correctness run amok. Meanwhile, a longawaited, longexpected moment for Hillary Clinton and her campaign over the weekend. That interview with the fbi about the email controversy that has dogged her campaign. It lasted about 3 1 2 hours. The campaign has been saying for months that Hillary Clinton wanted to get it over with. She said on msnbc saturday it was something she was eager to do, though it comes at a very difficult time for her campaign. As you say, just weeks away from the democratic convention. No details so far on what she said as that investigation goes on. Alisyn . Okay, joe. Thank you for all of that reporting. Well, a policeinvolved shooting in nevada sends terrified festival goers running for cover. Reno police say they opened fire on a driver who tried to run over an officer and plow through the barricades at this crowded festival. Police say the suspect was trying to escape an earlier traffic stop. He crashed into a vendor and was pronounced dead at the hospital. No one at the festival was hurt. Country music fans in pittsburgh created a huge mess at a Kenny Chesney concert this weekend. Dozens of fans were hospitalized, and police made seven arrests, all for alcoholfueled violence. Tailgaters left about 48 tons of trash in the parking lot. Police say this is an improvement compared to the 73 arrests made at a Kenny Chesney show back in 2013. Well, after a tough few weeks, police in orlando are going to new lengths to try to keep their community smiling. Watch this. I want to dance with somebody i want to feel the heat with somebody the horse was dancing. The horse has rhythm. These are all members of the Orange County sheriffs office. They were the First Responders to that orlando terror attack last month. Sheriff Jerry Demings cranks up the music before hundreds of the members of the department get in on the dancing, including, as you saw, the police dogs. What . And the helicopter. The horses and everybody. Good for them. They need to smile there, for sure. Dancing and music can cure a lot. And theyre good. Theyre good dancers. I saw some moves. Just saying. All right. We have more on Hillary Clintons meeting with the fbi. Three hours in a sitdown. Even if she does not face charges, has the damage already been done when it comes to her perceived honesty and trustworthiness . This special fourth of july edition of new day returns. The Republican Convention is just days away. Hillary clinton was just interviewed by the fbi, and donald trump is dealing with a new controversy. He sent a tweet with an antisemitic image this weekend before taking it down, but trump wont, or at least hasnt, said hes sorry. Joining me now, cnn political commentator ben ferguson. And former South Carolina state representative bakary sellers. He supports Hillary Clinton. Ben, i know you think this tweet from donald trump was an accident. Doesnt he need to explain, though, how he accidently found this image, which had been tweeted out by an antisemitic twitter handle and on an antisemitic web page, doesnt he need to explain how he found it and accidently sent it out to his 8 million twitt eter follow . Certainly if he tweeted out my bad and sent out the new one, it would have been a better move politically. But this is one of those things that donald trump seems to be part of his campaign, which is i dont apologize for anything. I changed it, theres the change, end of discussion. Youve seen it. Obviously thats me correcting it here. This goes to a bigger issue with donald trump. Youve got to do a better job of making sure you know whats in your tweets before you tweet them out. I understand he loves twitter and tweets a lot, but this also took away from a very bad week for Hillary Clinton, and if he wouldnt have sent out any tweets at all, it would have been a Better Campaign move for him moving forward when Hillary Clinton probably had her worst week of this election cycle thus far. Yet, now were talking about a stupid tweet instead of what really matters, which is a candidate for the presidency being interviewed by the fbi under investigation. You think this is just, you know, mishandling twitter or twitter misuse, or do you think theres something bigger here . No, i really dont. I think this is a classic, i want to put some text in a star to highlight it, i picked the wrong star, i fixed it, made it a round circle, and moved on. I dont think this is some, you know, submessage here, subtext here. If there was, i dont think he would have taken it down so quickly. This is one of the only tweets hes taken down since running for president. Obviously he knew he made a mistake and took it down and corrected it. It was a dumb mistake. This is what i referred to as a political bush league mistake, but it took him off message on the focus of Hillary Clinton, whos running for president being interviewed by the fbi. When this happens, the Trump Campaign shouldnt be tweeting anything out. They should let that be the story. Someone, though, had to go find this image, which again had been on other twitter feeds and a site. So someone actively did this. It wasnt just a matter of using a star, albeit a star of david, to highlight something. Lets talk about Hillary Clintons weekend. Its not part of the normal political playbook to sit down with the fbi for 3 1 2 hours some three weeks before your convention. This is not something that looks good for Hillary Clinton. No, it doesnt. Ben actually had it right. This has been one of the more difficult weeks, i think, for the campaign. Donald trump had been play manager defense the entire general election cycle. This week was the first week in which the Republican Party actually had the Clinton Campaign on defense. So were thankful that donald trump likes to tweet. But thats first and foremost. I think i have to get to the point of the investigation. I do this type of work often in my legal practice. Ill tell you what ive been telling people throughout the weekend. If you have any hint of exposure, any hint of criminal legality, you dont sit down with the fbi. You just do not. I know that some people say she had to politically. Well, no one in their right mind is going to risk going to prison instead of doing something thats politically expedient. I think this also signals that its the end of this investigation. Im excited about that. I think that well have some results before the rnc. I think that this is the last block between Hillary Clinton becoming president of the United States. I know that shes hopeful that shell get past this sooner rather than later. Just to be clear, cnns reporting is that it is unlikely that she will be indicted unless something came up during that threehour interview that were unaware of right now. So there is that. Even without an indictment, this has already done some damage. I want to put up numbers on what voters say about whether Hillary Clinton is honest and trustworthy. 30 say yes. 66 say no. Theres a flatout question, is Hillary Clinton corrupt . 58 say yes, shes corrupt. Thats hard to shake, even with a convention. It is hard to shake, but you also have to understand that this has been a woman whos been the most admired woman in the world in the past 20 years. Shes been undergoing these attack since the early 90s. This is what happens when you under go these attacks for two decades. Shes Still Standing strong and still fighting. But yes, this is an issue hes going to have to deal with. Shes going to have to go out and earn voters trust. Shes attempting to do that. I think a lot of this criticism is unfair, but i think once this investigation is completed, then youll see some of those numbers begin to change. Look, i got to jump in here and just say,ing to say that Hillary Clinton is one of the most admired women in the world is ridiculous when you have a trust issue like this. Thats a fact, ben. Its not a fact. Shes not one of the most admired. These polls are saying shes not the most admired woman in the world. Time magazine year after year after year has ranked her as one of the most admired women in the world. Its a fact. And this is where i think the Hillary Clinton campaign is totally overestimating how amazing Hillary Clinton is. The fact is the voters disagree with this idea that shes some incredible woman. They dont believe her. They dont trust her. They feel like she is corrupt. Look at the meeting on the tarmac with bill clinton. When youre a clinton, hes run for president twice, won twice, shes now running for the second time, lost the first time. This is nothing that you do in your day thats not about getting reelected or getting elected, i should say in her case. For him to go sit down with a woman whos in charge, the attorney general, and say it was just a friendly conversation, theres no way the American People believe that bill clinton sitting down with the attorney general was not political in nature while youre running for the presidency, your wife is. Theyre like, it was a friendly conversation. There was nothing wrongdoing here. It had nothing to do with her being investigated within hours of the sit down with the fbi. But you have no proof of that. I know logically when youre running for president , you dont have a meeting with someone while your wife is under investigation. But you have no proof of that, ben. The fact is, ben, that if there was something nefarious, if bill clinton wanted to circumvent the law or do something nefarious, he wouldnt have a Public Meeting on the tarmac. He might have just picked up the phone. We got to go, but i want to make two points. One, it wasnt exactly public. Its public because we found out about it. While we dont foe what went on in that discussion, ben, youre speculating what went on. We simply do not know. They say the grandchildren. Scale of one to ten, how much do you wish that meeting didnt take place, bakari . 45, 50. Is that an option . I mean, it was really bad optics. I think both bill clinton and Loretta Lynch wouldnt do it again. Im not here to make excuses for bill clinton. That was a bad, poor move. It was really bad optics. Bakari, ben, and the number 40, thank you to all of you. Happy fourth. No explanation from the Trump Campaign about that antisemitic tweet. We talked to a top adviser to the Trump Campaign, next. Donald trump taking heat this morning for tweeting an anticlinton, antisemitic graphic. Heres the tweet. It shows the star of david and a pile of cash and the words most corrupt candidate ever. The tweet has since been updated to remove the star, but the backlash has not died down. Here to discuss is ed brookover, Senior Adviser to the campaign. Hes the liaison between team trump and the Republican National committee. Thank you so muching for beinge on your holiday. Who tweeted this out . The campaign did, unfortunately. Who was that . When you say the campaign we understand mr. Trump usually tweets his own tweets. So who was it that did this . Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesnt. Im not sure who tweeted this out, alisyn. The campaign did. We corrected it. There was never any intention of any antisemitism. Mr. Trump has consistently and loudly denounced the white supremacist groups. So this is one of those thats nothing to see here, lets move on, and talk about real issues like Hillary Clintons threehour interview with the fbi saturday. Hold on a second. Has this will this person be fired . I dont believe so, but these memes float around the internet. Not every sixsided star is a star of david. There is no intent here at all. We corrected this tweet and have moved on. Ed, heres the problem. This was on a neonazi message board. Somebody had to go and find this. This isnt just the result of a standard internet search. This had to be found on one of these Message Boards. No, it didnt. No, it didnt have to be found on a message board. Those things get tweeted and retweeted and reposted on facebook. It did not have to be found on any message board like that. That is the origin of it. It came from a twitter it handle of somebody known to traffic neonazi messages. It was also on one of these Message Boards. So it suggests, ed, that somebody on the campaign is combing these Message Boards. No, no, not at all, alisyn. These images get posted and reposted and reposted on social media in fomany forms. Thats not that anybody is looking at any White Supremacy group. That is just simply not true. Ed, not this one. The only time that people have people have gone back to try to find the origin. The only place, other than mr. Trumps twitter feed, that they can find the origin of it is one of these neonazi Message Boards and the twitter feed of somebody who traffics in this. Those are the only places they can find them. Heres what i can tell you, alisyn. Theres no antisemitism in mr. Trumps body, not one ounce, not one cell. So we corrected this image, and its time for us to move on. There is nothing, nothing, nothing about mr. Trump that suggests antisemitism. Are you advising mr. Trump to apologize for this . I think we changed the image, and i think that speaks for itself. Why not apologize . We changed the image, alisyn. We took it down. We made a change. So i think well just move on from there. Mr. Trumps daughter converted to judaism, ivanka. What has she said about this . I dont know for sure. I cant tell you. This is not the first time. You said this is sort of an amomly. Its not the first time. In fact, mr. Trump has previously retweeted tweets from a neonazi supporter, including one from the account of somebody who calls himself White Genocide tm, which has lots of quotes from the nazi propaganda. So this is not a singular, onetimeonly event. Whats going on here . Theres nothing going on here, alisyn. I cant believe that we keep coming back to this. Mr. Trump is a fair human being. Hes a human being who is not bigoted in any sense of the word. We keep coming back to this, and were avoiding the real issues of the campaign. Look, the reason why part of why this is sticking is we havent had an explanation for how this happened, where they found it, who did it. Mr. Trump has not apologized. Its not the first time. So people are trying to figure out if this is a pattern. Furthermore, ed, even if youre saying that mr. Trump doesnt have a single sort of antisemitic bone in his body and we have no reason to believe that he does, there are neonazis out there who have begun to say, hes our guy, we like him. And mr. Trump has denounced them. He will continue to denounce them. Thats not part of our campaign. We dont we denounce their support. We denounce their views. So he has been clear that he does not want any support dish mean, there was the whole david duke dustup where he was slow to denounce david duke. Slow by your standards. He denounced david duke. Hes denounced the support of these groups. Its that simple. I cant believe were spending this much time on this topic this morning, alisyn. Gagain, ed, its because we havent had the answers. Youre not able to answer where it came from, who did it, and what the repercussions will be. We took it down, alisyn. We corrected it. In that correction, i think it says enough from the campaign. I guess one of the questions is, is this what can be expected from a donald Trump Presidency in that there wont be sort of a thawi thoughtfulness or investigation into where some ideas come from . You know, you just sort of send it out and deal with the repercussions afterwards and figure out where it came from afterwards. There doesnt seem to be a thoughtfulness and an investigation beforehand. Well, i dont think this is any indication of what would happen in a trump white house. I think that as our Campaign Continues to grow and to develop, that we will get better at this. But right now we took corrective action, and i think that was appropriate. Ed brookover, we appreciate you coming on and explains all of this. Thank you. Have a good fourth. Thanks, alisyn. Lets get over to john. All right. Isis connected to three major attacks in just the last week. Is this a strategy shift as the terror group deals with losses on the battlefield . Thats next. Has been a struggle. More than 200 people now dead following a suicide bombing in baghdad. This comes after attacks in bangladesh and turkey in just the last week. I want to discuss this now with retired Major General james spider marks. Hes currently executive dean at the university of phoenix. Thanks so much for being with us. We see what happened in baghdad over the weekend, this busy shopping district. Im sure you were there when you were in iraq. Somewhere we used to go frequently when we were there. Over 200 people now dead, including women and children. The target, shiite muslims. What does this tell you about the capability of enemy, isis . Isis has demonstrated its abilities over the course of the last couple years pretty dramatically. In military terms, what we see is what we call freedom of action, freedom of movement. Isis has been able to establish itself almost where it wants in small pockets. These are not lone wolf attacks. These are very coordinated attacks, which makes it that much more troubling. But they can work and they can hide in plain sight. Weve seen this for years. And its very, i would say, its not unusual that we would see this level of attack during ramadan. You know, the holy month ends here in the next couple of days. This is not unusual because the real intent of the holy month is to be as holy as you can, and theres no more dramatic way to be holy than to attack nonbelievers, whether these are believers or nonbelievers. Or not. For people who believe in a perverted form of religion. Absolutely. Totally perverted, totally hijacked religion. Thats the truth of what were seeing right now. The sad thing is that the level of readiness of the Iraqi Security forces, both their ministry of defense and interior, have increased over the years. Its still balkanized in that its not working as effectively as it should. The sad answer is its going to take time for iraq to really get its feet underneath itself in order to get ahead of these kinds of echbvents. We can do forensics on these events all day long, and we do. Nations Work Together to share intelligence after a brutality like this. Clearly weve got to get left of boom. Weve got to get ahead of these events. Its going to take time. I think the iraqi people are running out of the patience. I want to leave that aside and show a map of the attacks in the last week. You saw what happened in baghdad, in bangladesh at the ca cafe, the istanbul airport. You look at orlando, this man inspired by isis, killing 49 people in the United States. So you look at these attacks around the world then look at the map of the socalled battlefield on the ground in syria and iraq. You look at u. S. Backed forces moving closer to raqqah right now. Isis is losing territory in their socalled caliphate, but general, does it matter . What does it matter if theyre losing territory there, yet able to carry out these mass attacks all around the world, killing hundreds of people. John, thats exactly the point. What we see is this an inspirational, an ideological calling that exists. The geographic caliphate is being challenged right now, and frankly quite effectively, which is great. But again, increased pressure has occurred as a result of actions that isis has demonstrated on the ground. You get everybodys attention, everybody leans forward a little bit more effectively, and we start to focus in. The key is, this is a continual state of conflict that were now a part of. This is intergenerational. And its incredibly inspirational. If they lose ground here, they, isis, and other forms of radicalized islam, which will metastasize and present themselves over the course of years, isis will probably go away and well probably call for the days of isis when we see some new form of brutality down the road, as strange and odd as that may seem. But this is incredibly inspirational for many, and you can export this through cyberspace. Its easy to do. The efforts we have to take on, we as a body of nations, to get into how isis can inspire, is the longterm effect. It has to start in the core. Its going to have to implode. There has to be a pressure like there is from the outside. So multidimensional fight is what were talking about over the course of generations. Its tough for people because i think you get the sense from u. S. Military figures, they think they are making progress on the ground in iraq and syria. But if that only leads to more and deadlier attacks around the globe, thats hard for some people to to take. You know, john, there are clearly military at work. Youve got diplomatic efforts, informational efforts, the element of power we all lean on, where you break glass, call 911, try to solve the problem. But i think the narrative that what the west or a coalition of powers try to do, visavis, perverted form of islam. This will continue to attack the west as often and as frequently as it can. We can dig their wells, we can save we can deliver babies and save lives in hospitals, and the military and efforts have done that around the world for the longest time, yet that doesnt matter. These folks that were trying to help many cases will turn around and stick us in the throat. It is just a fact. General james spider marks, thanks for being with us and thank you for your service. Four florida counties under a state of emergency this morning, a toxic algae bloom covering miles of floridas coastline, blanketing the beaches in muck that is ruining the fourth of july weekend, and health concerns. Live in stewart, florida with more. What is this, polo . Reporter you know, the reality is the blue green algae is something people have to live with for years. This stuff has really impacted tourism, because this algae has made it on to the coastline, something that experts tell me has never really happened. About seven days ago, all this green stuff was washing up on the shore, forcing this beach to close. Obviously signs of improvement, but as you go further inland, the sights and smell of the stuff, really hard to miss. Its devastating. Hearbreaking. Reporter trinas store in stewart, florida is typically packed with shoppers. This holiday weekend, business is very slow. Were down at least 50 . Over the week, 50 to 70 . Reporter a drop she blames on the smelly goo. It is not like our ocean right n right. Reporter it is tainting the the beaches. It came from the lake, about 35 miles inland. Engineers released large amounts of water so nearby towns wouldnt flood, but with the water, came the algae. It is running off neutrients plus the warm temperatures, it will create the conditions. Reporter floridas department of Environmental Protection is sampling it, and last weeks results show elevated toxin levels. But the images from above look awful. And on the ground, the smell is chasing people away from the coast, like this one, where double red flags warn rose rosario to stay on dry land. You cant even find a parking space, whenever we come, whatever time of day or afternoon. And its there is nobody here. Reporter the algae can cause rashes, respiratory problems, and if ingested, liver and kidney damage. It can be very low oxygen to almost no oxygen and thats a severe impact on any wildlife that may make it through here. Reporter it is already keeping people away from the Small Businesses in this coastal town. The summer is not over yet. Do you have hope . I hope that i can go to the beach tomorrow and it is going to be beautiful and clear, of course, you never give up hope. Reporter for langston and fellow shop owners, keeping another algae bloom from happening, isnt just business. It is personal. The wildlife, the land and the water. Not just about people. Reporter all right, so lets talk about this shortterm solution. I can tell you the army corps of engineers, it began to cutback the fuel to the fire t cut off some of the material that some of the stuff actually feeds on. So thats one of the reasons were seeing this decrease. But longterm, many people youll talk to they shut cut off the releases entirely. Now you start venturing into controversial and political topics. Ultimately, the damage is done for several of the businesses here. Guys, there is some help in sight for local officials meet to find a solution. This beach is typically full on fourth of july weekend. Today, you dont see a lot of folks. You really dont, and it is a beautiful beach. I hope they can figure it out. Polo, thank you for that reporting. Were following a lot of news this morning, so lets get right to it. Officials heightening security measures, including the fireworks displays tonight. You will see a very significantly enhanced Police Presence. Be aware and be vigilant. After of course several terror attacks around the globe in just the past few days. Suicide bomber struck central baghdad. The death toll there, nearly doubling in the Suicide Attacks. He actually won in the first olympics in greece back like 3,000 bc. He is good and well talk more about that. Welcome to a special fourth of july Holiday Edition. It is 8 00 in the east and chris is off and john berman joins me now. All right, lets get to the stories so many people are talking about. Beefed up security for big independence celebrations. In the wake of terror attacks around the globe in just the last week. The death toll is soaring in baghdad, so what does this all say about the capabilities now of isis, blamed for three horrific attacks in less than a week. Were covering this from all over the globe. Lets begin with debra ferrick along the east river. Reporter absolutely, 3 Million People expected to be here. Happy fourth of july to all of you. Police will be out in full force. No credible intelligence of a specific threat. The unknown threat, the selfradicalized individual that wants to make a statement, and thats your going to see a heavy presence not just in new york, but in los angeles, chicago, any where where there is fireworks and people. After a series of deadly attacks overseas, u. S. Counterterror officials heightening security measures at socalled soft targets across the country. Including the july 4th fireworks displays tonight. We have a pretty tight security plan for the fourth of july. Reporter in the nations capit capitol, it will be hidden. We have technology that folks will not see. Reporter the biggest Fireworks Show in america, along new york citys east river, with an estimated 3 million spectators, has the police in the big apple on high alert. You will see a very significantly enhanced Police Presence in the city. Reporter out on the water, officials patrolling around manhattan and barges. Were very vigilant. Well have exceptional nypd presence to keep everyone safe. Reporter the nmayor deployig his officers ready to prevent terror. It sends a powerful message trying to disrupt that we are ready. Reporter tensions already high. It sounded like a cannon. Reporter after a small explosion in central park left a tourists foot man manningled. That something, believed to be an experiment with fireworks, or a homemade explosive, set off after a young tourist accidentally stepped on it. We believe this could have been put here as some sort of experiment. Reporter now, the Fbi Joint Terrorism Task for has been investigating this. They dont believe it is terror related and the bomb squad analyzed the device, saying it was basic chemistry and there didnt appear to be any intent to harm. But clearly, that has escalated the tensions, the worries, when you hear that kind of explosion ripping through central park. Thats what police will be on the alert for. Theyre going to make sure there are no a a nollies, and if there is any sort of threat stream, they will know about it sooner rather than later. Alisyn. Deb, it is so bizarre, such a bizarre story to have happen in central park, and so troubling. So thank you for all of the reporting on that. Well, we have breaking news from you from baghdad now. The death toll soaring from a massive truck bombing, isis claiming responsibility. Of course, this is the third deadly attack in less than a week. Ben wedeman is live. What is the latest, ben . Reporter a day and a half after that bomb blast went off at midnight saturday night, workers are still looking for bodies, body parts, still in the wreckage. People still dont know where their oh loved ones are, according to the iraqi police of the bodies recovered, 81 of them are so badly charred, theyre beyond recognition. Theyre going to have to conduct dna tests. At this point, the death toll is at least 200 with more than that wounded and it is expected to rise. Now, exactly what happened is not altogether clear at this point. But what we have been able to pin together or piece together is out here in this street, a small refrigerator truck packed with explosives went off around midnight. It caused fires to start in all these buildings around it. Many, there are lots of stores in this area, with clothing, computers, perfume, cellphones, all of it created a raging intern know and people were stuck on the upper floors. It wasnt just the blast, but the results fire, all of it amounts to the worst such attack in baghdad in years. Back to you. All right, ben, thank you so much. Simply horrifying on the streets of baghdad. Lets go to bangladesh, seeing its own horror. The hostages killed in the terror attack died minutes after the attacker stormed the cafe, live in dahki with more. Reporter they say the suspects were injured inside the cafe during that attack. From the beginning, they said that one of the tackers had survived. Thats one of the suspects, of course, he remains in the hospital, but two injured to speak to investigators. Police do know that all of the tackers are bangladesh. They range in age from 18 to mid 20s. They are upper, middle class men, and highly educated. I spoke to the father of one of the tackers, the youngest, the 18yearold, samir, and his father said his son had been missing for some four months. They werent able to find him. They had no contact with him prior to the attacks, but they also said when he was living in their house just four months ago, he showed no signs of radicalization. This father learned his son was involved when he saw photos that had been posted by isis, showing his son with most of his head covered, but said he recognized the boys lips, his cheeks, his mouth and the hands that were grasping a gun. Isis has claimed responsibility for this attack. U. S. Officials are focusing on isis as the likely perpetrators, but here in bangladesh, they are looking at the possibility that these were led by a network, however, they said they wont rule out the possibility of were having problems with the satellite from bangladesh there and alex. Saudi arabia overnight, Nic Robertson has the details. What have you learned, nic . This is deeply troubling. The bomb could have been much worse. We know the police saw this young man Walking Around about 3 00 a. M. In the morning, and it, saudi streets would have been quite busy, it is during r ramadan, and it was about ten yards from the u. S. Consulate when they approached him, he detonated the explosives. Two officers were injured. He died, but when the officers brought in the bomb squad to look at the vehicle that had arrived there, they discovered three other bombs in there. The disposal squad used a robot to get in and have controlled explosion, used controlled explosions to neutralize them. So this is troubling. It is troubling at several levels, because it could have been a much bigger explosion. Thats one thing. But also, we know that in recent, the last few years, saudi Officials Say theyve ramped up about 2,005 hundreds is spe 2,500 suspects. Isis chahasnt claimed this yet but is there a new tactical shift to go back to try to attack foreigners, particularly places of u. S. Interests, like the consulate and other potential business targets. Thats going to be the concern going forward, john. Nic robertson in london, what about days of interest of course, the fourth of july. How do the attacks overseas affect efforts here. We want too talk to commissioner william evans. Thank you for being with us, and happy fourth of july to you. Same to you. I want to ask first about whats not happening overseas, but central park, which is a few hundred yards behind me right now. There was some sort of explosive device found there. Some sort of explosion, and some poor guy stepped on it and was seriously injured. Im just wondering from where youre sitting in boston, how much do you know about that, were told here by authorities it wasnt terror related, but how many do you know about it specifically and what general concerns do you have . Well, you know, im working closely with the nypd, and weve been briefed. From what were being told, it is more of a fireworks, some type of minor, you know, fireworks, so were not real concerned there. But obviously today, july 4th, and we have major events going on here in the city. We have over a Million People coming to watch the boston pops and fireworks, red sox in town, parades, about you you know, but there is no threat to this city here. But i think what happened obviously not only in orlando but across the world, we all are concerned with security and we s have a lot of officers out there and no threat to any of the events in boston. No specific threats in boston right now, but obviously we have seen whats going on overseas in just the last week, whether baghdad or in bangladesh or at the airport in turkey. So how does that affect your preparations for an event like this, where youll have millions of people, more than a Million People out there . Well, i think working with the state police, the fbi, partners, you know, we will have a lot of technology out there, watching the crowd. We also have undercover officers, a lot of, you know, bomb sniffing dogs, and you know, well watch people closely as they move on to the espanade. A lot of people come into the city and as weve always said, we rely on the public that if they see something that doesnt look right, please, dont hesitate to call. That old see something Say Something, thats what we need. It is a great day. Not only in boston, but across the country, celebrating our independence. So i hope people arent afraid to come out and enjoy the day. Im sure they will not be afraid to come out and enjoy the day in boston. There has been some concerns that this is ramadan and the timing, what guidance have you been given about ramadan . Just yesterday, i was talking to, you know, the leader of them, and obviously theyre concerned with retaliation, but you know, were working very closely with the muslims and hoping that, you know, they obviously are not subject to any type of retribution, but also to reach out toous us if it they anything. Our concern is the lone wolf who becomes selfradlized. We have plenty of officers out there working with our partners to make sure these events go off without any problems at all. Obviously you have specific concerns in boston because of what happened there a few years ago at the Boston Marathon, selfradicalized individuals able to carry out attacks, which caused great damage to hundreds of people. I wonder if the security environment, if you have noticed changes in the international and domestic security environment since then . Are you on greater alert now . That in some ways predated isis. We have been since the marathon bombing. Weve worked very closely with a lot of the agencies in and around the city. We do a continually doing a lot of active training exercises out there. You know, just two weeks ago, we were up at fenway park, where we did an exercise very much, you know, like what happened recently with, you know, the suicide vests and individuals coming in with ak47s. I think since the marathon, weve stepped up our efforts not only here in the city, but across the country. Unfortunately, it is a crazy world right now all we can do is be prepared and respond, and heaven forbid that happened here or any where in the United States, like what took place in orlando. Commissioner, are you going to see the pops tonight on the espanade . Yeah, ill be there, Walking Around. It is a great city. Im ready to go to fenway hall where they will read the declaration of independence, the parade, we have a lot of events. It is a fun day in the city, capped off by the boston pops and the fireworks at 10 30. We hope you have a great, safe day. Happy 4th, commissioner. Thank you for having me on. Alisyn. John, a u. S. Hillary clintons email controver controversy, interviewed by the fbi for more than three hours this weekend. What dodamage has it done to he perceived trustworthiness. Plus the meeting with the attorney general, giving the republicans plenty to talk about. Hillary clinton supporter joins us next to address these issues, that, on this special fourth of july edition of new day. Dont you dare follow your dreams. Think big. Or demand your own space. Dont you dare leave it all behind. Dont you dare ask whats next. Introducing the firstever cadillac xt5. Hillary Clintons Campaign looking to move past her email controversy. Sources tell cnn it is expected that she will not face charges related to her use of that private email server as secretary of state. However, last weeks unplanned meeting on the tarmac between her husband and Loretta Lynch continues to raise questions. Joining us know is former department of justice matt miller, and a Hillary Clinton supporter. Good morning, matt. Good morning. Given your experience at the justice department, what do you think happened during the three and a half hour meeting with the fbi . You know, i think this was really the last step in the fbis investigation typically in a long investigation like this. After you have completed your entire review available evidence, youve interviewed as many people as you can, bring in the key principal if theyre willing to speak to the fbi, and a lot of people in these situations arent. They brought her in, she came in voluntarily, and why she set up her email account the way she did, and i would imagine talked about the fact that she never knowingly sent any information. This is really the last step in what hopefully youll see now is the fbi and department of justice bringing this to a close and really wrap things up. What would the timeline be, do you think . It ought to happen in the next few weeks. This is, you know, the way these cases work, the fbi goes out and conducting a full investigation, and then the fbi and prosecutors together make a decision about how they want to proceed. With the investigative phase finished, if they are not going to bring charges, and that appears to be the case, it really is in couple bent upon the department of justice to wrap this up in a matter of weeks and announce it is at a close, because they need the uncertainty that has shadowed the campaign from the beginning. But matt, what if her testimony doesnt jive with what theyve learned from the other witnesses . Bringing in the principal as you say as the last person, doesnt that open it up if she doesnt if somebody doesnt co corroborate what she said. That doesnt appear the case. Look, a lot of people in these situations as i said dont go talk to the fbi voluntarily. When someone does, as she did, i think it is a pretty good sign that they want to be open, they want to be cooperative with the investigation, because they dont feel there is a likelihood that they are going to face any charges. Theyre not in jeopardy. We should read this as secretary clinton really feeling good about the likely outcome of the investigation, and if thats true, if the department isnt going to bring charges, what they shouldnt do is let it linger for a long period of time. They need to wrap it up and bring it to a close. Will her testimony to the fbi or even others be released to the public to see . No. Certainly not any time soon. Sometimes long down the road, the fbi will release the summaries of interviews, but that comes much after the fact. The fbi and department of justice remain confidential fee for these matter, and thats certainly proappropriate. After the fact, lets say there are no charge, isnt this a special circumstance . Because she is running for president , doesnt the public deserve to know what the questions were and her answers to them . I think it is unlikely the fbi will have asked a lot of different questions and what weve seen publicly. Hillary clinton has answered so many questions about this from the press. The department of justices job is not to conduct public inquiries. Theyre not supposed to leak information, although there have been many leaks in this case and make a d he significance ecisiod law. If they are going to bring charge, they have a responsibility to air everything about the charges and prove them in a court of law, but if not, they need wrap it up quietly and announce that there really is no basis to move forward. Matt, if this does go a different way than what the leaks have suggested, and charges are brought, what is the campaigns plan . You know, i think its so unlikely that it would go a different way. Look, we havent seen a grand jury em panelled here, and before you could bring any charges, there would have to be a grand jury. Youre talking about something so outside the realm of possibility, i doubt there is a campaign decision, because it simply not going to happen. It is really, even from the beginning of this investigation, never actually been in the cards. If you look at the substance of the investigation, there is nothing here that rises even close to a criminal act. I think well, i mean, look, on the other side, people say there was classified information. It was not marked classified, however, there was top secret and classified that should not have been dealt with on her private server. Thats right. I can tell you someone who worked in the government, if you went through and looked at the emails that every senior official received on their unclassified accounts, as has been done for Hillary Clintons emails, would you find classified information. It is just the way the system works unfortunately. I actually think if her name wasnt Hillary Clinton, this never would have even been an fbi investigation. And so, you know, the likelihood of criminal charges were very slim from the outset and i think were not going to see them. Very quickly, i want to ask you, because it does continue to be talked about, the inappropriate meeting that happened between the attorney general, Loretta Lynch and bill clinton. We learned this beak keweekend clinton said she learned about this through press reports. Shouldnt somebody have given a heads up that this meeting on the tarmac happened . Probably. I think what that shows is it really was a kind of light and social meeting that president clinton and attorney general had. I think they both said now it was a mistake. I think we can certainly all agree that it was a mistake. I dont think it was actually a mistake for the attorney general in terms of substance. It doesnt change her ability to conduct a full and fair review and make a decision based on the facts. But it certainly raised questions publically and something you want to avoid. Yeah, i mean, you know, the republicans have called for a special prosecutor as a result to oversee the final steps. So what about that . No, look there is no reason for there to be a special prosecutor. Like i said, it did call into question things from a public perspective in a way thats unnecessary, but it doesnt change Loretta Lynchs ability to review this investigation. I think it is very unlikely the recommendation from career prosecutors is going to be anything different than what the attorney general and other senior officials would agree on. If you look at Loretta Lynchs career and her history there is no reason to doubt her integrity. Matt miller, well see what the investigation holds in the next few weeks. If your predictions hold true, thank you very much for being on new day. Thank you. Donald trump, under fire. How will the Trump Campaign explain this controversial tweet. How does an image like this end up on Donald Trumps twitter account . Well, the whole idea that somehow donald trump is up late at night trolling these crazy, outrageous sights looking for images like this, or anybody on his staff is somehow a member of a site where they can get images from the all right as they call it, thats all just poppycock. The reality here is donald trump controls his own twitter feed for much of the day during the business day, there is a team of people who work on his twitter feed who create these images, who create these great videos people have been really rallying around for months and months, and they tweet these things out. Theyre careful about it. The guys who do it are family men who are, you know, moderate republican types. Who would never be looking around in these areas, poking around looking for these images. This was just a mistake, an unforced error. And twitter is a cruel mistress. Someone had to actively find this, right . It is not like it was floating out there. It had been posted on a message board, and put out by a twitter account that puts out antisemitic racist type of stuff. So someone saw it, someone cut and paste it. Someone say hey, this is a great thing for Donald Trumps twitter, so who . Well, i think this is listen, 70 of america agrees with donald trump that the Political Correctness thats going around out there isnt isnt Political Correctness. This is an image which people look at and very clearly antisemitic. Very clearly . I dont think it is very clearly antisemitic at all. First of all, it was a mistake. It shouldnt have been snatched up and used in the twitter feed at all. You make mystiistakes when you using twitter in a way that nobody has before. Donald trump is breaking news ground with twitter, using it instead of paying millions of dollars instead of negative ads. Using it, using it youre going to find something using it denotes a deliberate activity. He uses it. Know he is what is he is doing with it, which is why people are asking questions. Michael, something specific to you, who did this. There has been no apology. We havent heard if anyone in the campaign has been reprimanded for this or suffered repercussions. You lost your job over a tweet. You know, you separated from the Trump Campaign over a tweet when Corey Lewandowski was let go. Thats from the wizard of oz, the iconic reference. So why does someone lose their job over a wizard of oz tweet but not something that is antisemitic. Well, ive apologized. What i did, i resigned. I did not serve my candidate well. I tweeted into the storm of the release of Corey Lewandowski as Campaign Manager, and as a communications manager, it is malpractice, an unforced error, and my fault. As a professional it, was diuty to tender my resignation. With this, no one was intending to insult. This is a bunch of hand ringing who absolutely understand that Hillary Clinton must, must label donald trump some kind of a bigot in order to win this election. It is baked into Hillary Clintons campaign. Clinton campaign hasnt said anything about this so far. People like the Antidefamation League has said this tweet is something that concerns them. There have been a lot of people that looked at this that concerns them. I just asked, you said you tweeted into a storm. It was an unforced error, so you resigned. Should someone resign whoever found this image. I dont think so. You dont think so . No, i dont think so at all. This was an in add verror. People on the left, the supporters of Hillary Clinton who are hidden in organizations out there crying about this, this is a Political Movement to try to shame donald trump in the wake of Hillary Clinton being interrogated in a criminal investigation over the july 4th weekend and her husband having a really inappropriate meeting with the woman who is going to decide whether or not his wife is going to be indicted. This is what this is all about. This is just a tweet. This is Political Correctness gone crazies. It is just a tweet, michael, it is just a tweet when there have been other tweets drawn into question, it is just a tweet when donald trump had the exchange with jake tapper over the kkk and david duke. People see a pattern here. It is not something that happened in a vacuum. You do at least acknowledge that. I understand that, but this pattern that youre seeing is being created by those people who need to bake this bigotry into the donald trump candidate model. It is absolutely whats going on. Donald trump absolutely disavowed the kkk. He didnt do it enough or didnt do it loud enough or on the left side of mouth like everybody wanted him to. Thats the Political Correctness that america is suffering from. The Political Correctness, this hand wringing going on over a geometric shape. It is the star of david over 100 bills. This is not geometry here. It is imagery which is significant to a lot of people and hurtful to a lot of people. I do want to take a minute to play veepstakes with you. Lets put up the graphic of the various people under consideration. Names being leaked and floated right now. They include many people, most recently, joni ernst of iowa, senator there, and mike pence, who played golf with donald trump this weekend. What do you think of mike pence . What do you think hell bring to the ticket . First of all, it is important for me to tell you that i was not involved in those conversations. Thats very high level stuff in the Trump Campaign above my pay grade. The veepstakes, people like Corey Lewandowski and Paul Manafort are the ones helping d shall d shall. I just want to know what you think of him being i am a mike pence guy. First of all, he puts away some of the problems we have with the conservatives in the party who fear that donald trump is too moderate on certain policy issues. He is very likeable. People across the country involved in republican politics who found him to be a very personable man. In addition, he has got no question as a leader of the republican conference in the house before he left the United States congress, he brings the law making ability, the ability to work the house and work the senate, that donald trump doesnt bring as a man who doesnt come from a career in politics. Michael caputo, mike pence guy, former advisor to the Trump Campaign, thanks for being with us. Thank you, john. Happy Independence Day. Three major terror attacks around the globe in less than a week. Why all three are thought to be the work of isis, next. 200 People Killed in a truck bombing in baghdad. This is the third attack at the hands of isis in a very bloody week around the world. How are attacks on the rise caliphates territory is shrinking. Cnn contributor michael wise is here. Just one week, in the space of one week, it is amazing to think of the carnage. So lets start with the worst one. This is what has just happened this weekend in baghdad. They think now the death toll went up today. It is really sick inning to think about 200 people in this one truck bombing. The aftermath is as grizzly as it could be. Explain the ideology that thinks it is okay to kill dozens of innocent children. Not just dozens of innocent children, but shiites. This happens all the time. You know, were paying attention to it now, because it has occurred in a series of grizzly event in the world. The end of r. I iraq is a you attack shia, brute lies, ethnic cleansing, sunnis, that forces sunnis into the isis fold. Of course, sunnis were killed as well. They dont care. Theyre all expendable for the greater goal of caliphate. Sunnis are considered to be a prosta prostater. So children, women, sunni, it doesnt matter. Yeah, look, people are cannon fodder. It is again about the isis, and being under it. Lets talk about what you see here in the Dhaka Bangladesh attack. They held about three dozen people hostage in a bakery. Fwh anything about that, one cafe bakery, is that a different strategy . No, not really. Seven guys got their act together to mount a campaign. I dont see it as isis directed. I see it more as isis inspired. There is another one that declared allegiance to al qaeda. If reports i read, they separated the victims according to nationality. Those were bangladesh were taken to one side and butchered. There are reports that those who could recite the koran were spared. These, and again, the background of these guys very well educated, they come from a wealthy sort of middle class background, theyre not different than the profile. Indeed. So the horrible week started, of course, at the airport in istanbul. Still no claim of responsibility. No, but thats characteristic for isis when it comes to turkey. This is a very classic foreign operations model, to my mind. Youve got attackers were the former soviet union, russia, kyrgyzstan, the ringleader is a very well known chech en recruiter for isis. We reported at the daily beast, he was once an informant to the georgia government. This came from isis command saying lets come in and attack. That raises the next question. Does it matter theyre losing ground in iraq. Lets put it this way. It matter to them in the sense that yes, as they lose territory, they lose the ability to people equals money. Most of their money, most of their economy runs from taxation. To you and me and the u. S. Electorate, it wont matter, and it may be worst, because were seeing an escalation against western targets as a result of their shrinking caliphate. Thank you for explaining it. Well settle for nothing less. Were weeks away from the games. Team usa is taking shape. Lets bring in sports analyst, Christine Brennan and sports anchor, andy scholes. Christine, Michael Phelps going to his 72nd Olympic Games. Will there be a game he doesnt go . Great question. This is his fifth in a row, going back to 2000, where he was a 15yearold kid. He qualified in three individual events, probably one relay, maybe another. He is not necessarily the guy who will win the most gold. Katie ledecky will win the most in the u. S. Phelps locked in, and because we are in a personality world where we want to know these athletes, whatever sport it is, john, i think because it is phelps, everyone knows him and thats why everyone is fascinated. The grand old man in the pool at 31. He has let him so go, from looking at the video. Said no one ever. Andy, how is this even possible . Is michael bionic or something . I dont know. Were not 100 he is human, are we. It is unbelievable what he has been able to do in the pool. Like christine said, he entered the olympics at 15 years old and to dominate one sport for 16 years, it is just remarkable. If you think about it, you know, lochte, without phelps would have arguably been the best swimmer of all time, with 11 medals, but because of phelps, hes not. Without ryan lochte, phelps may not be the best swimmer, because he pushed him to be the best. Phelps and lochte were going head to head, but phelps in the final moments, won his final race on u. S. Soil. It is going to be so awesome to watch these two go at it, i have to say more than likely, this will be the final time for phelps. Who knows. I havent paid attention to swimming, i saw them in the paper, really, theyre both still doing it so those are the old guys. Lets talk about the fresh faces. In womens gymnastics, were talking about some people that will burst onto the scene this time. It has to start with simmone byles. She and katie ledecky, the swimmer i just mentioned are threedays part in age. They could be the breakout stars, 19 years old, both of them born within three days in march 1997, a couple of years younger than you. And you know, i think the the bottom line is that byles is Mary Lou Retten combined with every other name you can think of. She has already won three straight world championships, four Straight National titles. Not only should she win the all around, should they win the team competition, but simmone could go on and win several of the events, the vault and the beam and et cetera. And be the most decorated womens gymnastics schchampion r at the olympics. The u. S. Loves gymnastics and youre going to see a lot of her in the next few weeks. It is so fun to watch. Anything we should look for for mens gymnastics . You know what, the team that got solid identiifiesolidified, paying more attention to the womens, as most people tend to do. I wanted to say one thing about simmone byles, she lives in houston and im obviously a fan. She made a pick for the texans in the draft. Bella corelli, he is calling her the best he has ever seen. A guy auto like that says something about a gymnast. Indeed, what christine is talking about, all the medals she could win. Andy, lets talk about sprinting, the 100 meter dash. The reigning champion hurt his leg. He pulled a hammy. Yeah. Will he be fit for the games, and how does it get in the way of his qualifying . So the rules in jamaica, it is not strict that the three top goes to the olympics. There are injury exceptions. He has to show he is fit, and he has three weeks to get it right. Everyone wants to see the fastest man in the world, except for maybe justin gatlin, who is 34 years old, likely his last shot at gold at the olympics. So you know, Everyone Wants to see bolt except for jas tin gatlin. They are nem sises over the years. Hammies are tricky. You never know when theyre going to heal. Andy, christine, thank you so much. Thank you for spending part of your holiday with me. Thank you. Great to have you here. Fireworks in the morning. Indeed. Well see you tomorrow. Thanks for sending part of your holiday with us. Lets take another live look at lady liberty in new york harbor. Happy 4th everyone. Newsroom with Carol Costello picks up after this quick break. Happening now in the newsroom, Independence Day, greetsed with a heavy dose of security, hundreds of extra officers out in force. We do have technology that folks will not see. This, after terrorists launch a string of attacks overseas. Iraq reeling from a market explosion, cnn in baghdad this morning. Plus, controversy hits the president ial campaign trail. Backlash growing over a trump tweet evoking antisemitic imagery. A tweet is a simple tweet and the bottom line, you can read into things that arent there
