The president claims once again there was no collusion after Robert Mueller indicted 13. He appears more about vicinity indicating himself than addressing the threat the kremlin poses to the next elections. He claims russia never meddled despite we have him numerous times on tape rejecting russian interference. And taking aim at the fbi claiming they were too distracted to pursue a specific lead about the high School Massacre. The bureau knits they failed to investigate. They are intensifying their calls to do something about gun control. Will they improve background checks for guns. A top donor said he will no longer contribute money to candidates who dont support an assault weapons ban. Lets begin with kaitlan live in west palm beach. Reporter good morning, dave and alisyn. A weekend full of tweeting for the president in west palm beach. He was mostly indoors because aides said it would be bad press if he were out too soon after the Deadly School shooting. President trump lashing out about the russia investigation, unleashing a series of angry attacks that began with the president blaming his own fbi for the School Massacre in florida that left 17 dead. Mr. Trump tweeting that the fbi missed signals because they are spending too much time trying to prove russian collusion with the campaign. I think it is an absurd statement. Okay, absurd. So many folks in the fbi are doing all they can to keep us safe. The reality of it is they are two separate issues. The president should be staying out of Law Enforcement business. And Ruben Gallego said america will regret the day you were ever born. And President Trump going after h. R. Mcmaster who said this at a security conference in germany about russias interference in the 2016 election. As you can see with the fbi indictment, the evidence is now real reallycontrovertible. He said they were not impacted or changed by the russians, a conclusion that the Intelligence Community hasnt reached the president hasnt mentioned what if anything they are doing to prevent them from interfering in future elections. The president asserting that the russia probes are creating discord, disruption, and chaos rather than condemning russia. Adding they are laughing their asses off in moscow. He also said he did not ma, he. Putin did not meddle in the election. And the Obama Administration could have done more. I have said all along i felt the Obama Administration should have done more. But none of that is an excuse for this president to sit on his hands. Schiff challenging the president directly saying if mcmaster can stand up to putin, why cant you . Insisting it proves there was no collusion between his campaign and russia despite the fact that muellers investigation into potential collusion is ongoing. Now, the president is heading back to washington to headlines from the l. A. Times reporting that the former Campaign Aide rick gates is expect to testify against Paul Manafort and will plead guilty to fraudrelated charges within days, dave and alisyn. Lets bring in kara cordero and john avlon. Over the weekend he had a dozen tweets. The one we should talk about this he said i never said russia did not middle in the election. He doesnt know that we have videotape and long memories. I dont know which one to pick to prove that thats wrong. But heres a fun one. Lets go with this. Proof the president should play more golf. 20 tweets saturday and sunday, it was a hot mess. Lets get back to the indictment. 13 russians indicted. Three entities. What did it show . Some call this the largest attack on our country since 9 11. Well, this was a really big indictment. As you said, 13 russian nationals. It shows the special coups team is willing to charge russian nationals, Russian Companies that were operating this against american democracy even if the team knows these kids probably will never actually stand trial in a u. S. Court. And so what it shows, it demonstrates the the level of evidence that the United States government has assembled against these russian organizations and individuals. And it shows, i think, that its more likely that in the future we might see more indictments and charges against individuals perhaps who were involved in the dn tkr hacking, in the podesta hacking, the leaking of that conversation. If the team was willing to charge russian nationals and russian internationals in this, which was conspiracy to defraud the u. S. Government, i think were going to see more of the same. Yeah. Theres no indication that this was the end for mueller. There is an indication that this is the beginning or somewhere in the middle but not the end. Listen, john, back to the tweet storm. There is an interesting back story what was happening that we should get into. Maggie haberman has information, as well as cnn. Mueller was pleased with the indictment because people in russia, 13 people he doesnt know. Theyre not connected to the trump campaign. In fact, they said no one wittingly on the trump campaign. So he saw that as good news. Skpeplted to play golf. But he was counseled this would not be a good weekend to play golf when parkland, florida is a few miles away and they have suffered this Horrific School shooting. So he was inside and he was watching tv is the story. Then he started hearing analysts and people saying in fact, this was not good news for the trump campaign. Then he started getting more agitated and tweeting this stuff. Yeah. Look, we know the president is reactive to what he watches on tv, particularly one channel that has a tendency to give talking points to the worst angels of this nature. But this is not a situation where the president should feel at all vindicated. This is part of a larger mueller investigation. This lays it out real clear for the american people. That was the word used by h. R. Mcmaster. The evidence now is in kopbt vertible. Does it have anything to do with vindicating the president . He said charges deal don a big win. Did they . I dont think so. And heres why. What the indictment charged was conspiracy to defraud the United States. That means if there are other americans involved in the political process were also conspireing or were assisting in some way or had knowledge, that conspiracy can actually broaden. So we dont know if there is that evidence yet because we havent seen that revealed. But the way in which this document was crafted leaves open that possibility. I think also the president s tweets demonstrate he is terrified of this investigation. And he is either terrified of this investigation because there is some kind of evidence that would implicate those close to him or those involved in his campaign, be or he is worried about this special counsel now with this indictment and the way that the Deputy Attorney general is conducting oversight of it, that this investigation is now on track and will not be derailed. Whether that is financial aspects related to the campaign or the Trump Administration or whatever else it is that has his so concerned, it is on track and this train is continuing to run. Yes. I mean, look, that is one interpretation that he is terrified. And we have reporting that he is just very, very that he doesnt want people to think he had help in winning. He wont hear that. This is the small stuff. What are we going to do about it . How are we going to stop it in 2018 and beyond . That we will address. John . We know there is no coordinated effort. There is so much pain and so much emotion here after this massacre that surviving students are taking that energy and theyre demanding gun control. And theyre not afraid to call out politicians. Even if that politician is the president of the United States. How dare you . Children are dying and their blood is on your hands because of that reporter survivors of last weeks massacre criticizing President Trump for his inaction on gun control and voicing their outrage over the President Trumps tweet. Another writing, you are the president of the United States and you have the audacity to put this on russia as an excuse. I guess i should expect that from you. A person close to the killer told the bureau he was erratic, owned guns, had a desire to kill people, and potentially capable of conducting a school shooting. Reporter cnn also learns an investigation from the department of children and families raised behavioral concerns about the killer in september of 2016. Including that he was on snapchat cutting both of his arms. Having nazi symbols on his back back and wanted to purchase a gun for unknown reasons. According to the report, he had been diagnosed with autism, ad hd, depression. A Safety Assessment ultimately determined the level of risk was low. These documents also show that the killer was cited in over 40 disciplinary incidents at school, including fighting, profane language, assault, suspension. This new chilling surveillance captures the confessed killer walking calmly down the street minutes after the attack. The family that took in the killer telling the sun sentinel, we had this monster living under our roof and we didnt know. Everything even seems to know, we didnt know. They say he followed every house rule but was depressed and took him to a therapist five days before the shooting. This allowed him to keep firearms in the familys locked safe. But they thought they had the only key. The president is expected to meet with state and local officials on thursday. Hes also expected to host a listening session with students on wednesday. But at least two students have already told cnn they do not plan to attend. Alisyn and dave, the other thing thats expected to happen at the end of this week, according to the broward public schools, is that expected to allow teachers, staff, to go back into the school. Not only are funerals happening and some of these victims being laid to rest, but some of the people inside when the massacre occurred are expected to go back inside. Rosa, thank you very much. It will be a difficult time. They are passionate. They are determined. They are eloquent. We will talk to them in a moment. Jimmy, you spent 25 years at the bureau, former special supervisory agent. If im a parent who lost a kid and i know the tip went to the fbi that said this kid might shoot up a school, what happened and how do you explain that to the school . You and i and alisyn were all down there in florida. The emotion, pain, grief, sorrow was unpalpable. The news came in friday afternoon that the fbi had received a tip, an actionable lead. It had not been followed up on. It was a gut punch to us. Those of us in Law Enforcement on the job now and retired, with take these things this is our worst nightmare. We take these things so seriously. The call came in january 5th on a Public Access line. That is either 800 number or 888 number. It would have come to the first level of triage. They would have looked at it. This had enough information that it should have been given to an agent. An agent would have screened it and sent it to an office of origin. Because this was broward, it would have gone to miami. They are fallible human beings or whether it was systems failu failure, the fbi has to get to the end of this. I laud director wray for getting out in front of this. My stomach is in knots who had to think about the parents who had to hear this on top of what happened. I trust we can find a way to make sure an error like this never happens again. 2,100 calls a day come in a day. It is a call center. Sometimes the calls and they said i saw somebody at 7 11 that kind of looked like i saw on a wanted picture. But this one was specific. Obviously something broke down at the call center. Governor scott is calling for the fbi director chris wray to be fired over this. That is i dont know what adjective to use for how misplaced that is. Often you hear republicans say lets not politicize a tragedy talking about guns in the wake of these. Rake scott is politicizing it by calling for director wray to step down. This is a horrific moment for the country, for the members of the fbi. There needs to be an inquest. Pointing the finger at the fbi, as also the president did on twitter trying to say they were distracted from the russia investigati investigation. It has nothing to do with the call center. Nothing. So lets be clear about that. The most moral authority and the most clarity are the kids. When is it the right day to talk about gun control in america if its not the day after a gun shooting, how about march 24th. They are future voters. They are future voters. They are taking the bull by the horns here. Everything theyre saying and what they plan to do. There are 180 congressional districts that have had Mass Shootings take place. There should be more Political Awareness and a sense of responsibility by congress. If only for political, if not moral reasons that we have seen. Lets see if they finally get off their butts and do something. You have to talk about sandy hook. Children were slaughtered. We did nothing. Democrats were in control of the white house, the house, and the senate, nothing. Vegas, no bump stock legislation. You have to consider the past when discussing the president. You do. A lot of folks look at sandy hook and say it shows we arie wm tent to do anything. It was bipartisan in the wake of the biggest shooting in vegas. Congress waited until people forgot and you got crickets. It does feel like were at a tipping point. You have said that before. I have, except all of these kids are teenagers. So unlike the tragedy at sandy hook where they were little, little kids. Now theres teenagers, future vote issers. This is florida, not a blue state. And its gun country. Its gun country. Despite all of that, these kids know what they want to do. March 24th when they have this national march, people will hear their voices. People will sit back and go theres nothing we can do and everybody retreats to their corners. Folks struggle. Listen, as i say all the time, im the perfect spokesperson because im a veteran, former Law Enforcement officer, gun owner, i have a concealed carry, a hunter. Im the exact person that said we invented gun powder in 1700 a. D. The 1791, Second Amendment comes online. Here we are in 2018 and were hanging onto this and going we just cant talk about this because if we do that, were somehow going to take off the founding fathers. They could not envision that an 18yearold kid can go in a gun store. He cant buy beer but you can buy a semiautomatic weapon, a weapon of war. Youre wrong. It is not fully automatic.
