Please welcome to the stage paul feeney. Hello fellow democrats, im a proud member of the brotherhood of electrical workers number 2222 in boston, massachusetts. I come from the movement, can i call you my brothers and sisters . In that case, my brothers and sisters, were at a cross roads. In a matter of moments, we will enter a new phase in our party and chart a new course. As we turn the page, we must be reflective of the past year when working people across the country joined with senator bern Bernie Sanders to reignite a Political Revolution in the United States of america. Brothers and sisters, bernie not only fought for people, he empowered people. To my brothers and sisters that have been a part of this historic campaign, i urge you to stay engaged, stay active, and stay fired up. We have shown this country that People Powered politics can never be defeated. They say that movements are made up of a series of moments. My brothers and sisters, its moments like the one we find ourselves in right now here in philadelphia as we stand on the research of nominating our candidate for president. It is moments like the one we had last night when bernie signed filled this hall, and were held up by bernie and hillary supporters, too. We should be proud to share this moment together, and to build this movement together. Bernies Campaign Came together around a shared set of values and ideals. Values and ideals like the fight for 15, the fight for unions, the fight against nick inequality. Those are the central ennants of who we are as a party. But theyre not more than words on paper. Unless we decide like bernie asked us to last night, to join together and support Hillary Clinton in november for president of the United States. My brothers and sisters, my fellow democratics, now is the time, now is the time to stand up, to rise up, and to send a message to the rest of america that our party is united, our movement is alive, and our revolution has just begun. With that, i proudly rise to second the nomination of senator Bernie Sanders of vermont as the democratic nominee for president of the United States. Thank you. God bless you. A second nominating speech now for Bernie Sanders. My friends, my name is sh ieri shyla nelson from vermont. I have never felt the bern more than i do in this moment. We have worked to take our country back from the millionaires and the billionaires. Together we have worked to end Citizens United and restore democracy to the people. Together we have worked for a 15 minimum wage. For debt free college. For breaking up big banks. For climate justice. And for the man who launched this revolution senator Bernie Sanders. Tonight, my friends, we celebrate the progress we have made in this campaign, and we set a course for progress that we will make when we win in november. I am so proud of us. My friends, the millions of you who have volunteered, the millions who have donated, the millions who have stood at rallies across this great land and demanded changed. I am so proud of bernie. Our movement continues. Our revolution continues. We will never stop working for a future we believe in. We will never stop fighting for the change that we need. And we will never forget the man who leads us. So with pride, gratitude, optimism, for the future we all build together, i stand before you for the purposes of seconding the nomination of our friend and hero, senator Bernie Sanders. A beaming senator Bernie Sanders, very pleased by the nominating speeches. There you see a huge round of applause for the senator from vermont, jake. And the nominating speeches are coming next for senator clinton. And it cannot be overstated just how important this process is to sanders supporters to express their support to stand up and sing his praises as the party tries to achieve unity and tries to come together. We will continue the president ial nominating process with nominating and seconding speeches on behalf of secretary clinton. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the podium, senator barbara mc mikulski from maryland. Fellow democrats and sister democrats, and a special hello to the state of maryland. Our nation was born here in philadelphia 240 years ago. Our Founding Fathers gave us a great start, but it was the founding mothers who said do not forget the ladies or we will ferment our own revolution. They started the job, but were going to keep it going. Now yes, we do break barriers. I broke a barrier when i became the first democratic woman elected in the senate in her own right, and the first to chair the powerful appropriations committee. So it is with a full heart that im here today as we nomination Hillary Clinton to be the first woman president. Many of you have broken barriers. You were the first to go college, the first to start a business, maybe the first to be a citizen. You know you didnt do it for yourself, you did it for others to have opportunities. Thats what hillary wants to do. She wants to break barriers to opportunities so you wont have barriers. You can count on her. She will work for you she will fight for your day today needs. Fighting for your macro issues and the macaroni and cheese issues. So you have opportunity for a good job and a good neighborhood with a good school, and your kids will have a really good future. You will have equal pay for equal work. So when you need it. So yes, it is about the new jobs, but it is so much, she wants that job to light up your home, light up your community, light up your life, and she wants that little light in you just do shine. I know that hillary listens. The hillary that i work with is duty drive duty driven, unflaking, unflinching. For the wiem that have broken down barriers to others, i proudly parade Hillary Clintons name and nomination to be the next president. Now john lewis, a member of the house of represents, continuing the theme of barrier breakers. John lewis will now have a nominating speech for Hillary Clinton. My beloved democrats, this are forces in america that want to take us backward. They want to undo 50 years of progress that this nation has made under democratic leadership. We have come too far. We have made too much progress, and we are not going back. We are Going Forward that is why we all must go to the polls in november and vote like we have never ever voted before. Now eight years ago our party, the Democratic Party nominated and elected the first person of color to ever serve in the white house. Not just for one term, but two terms. Tonight on this night, we will shatter that Glass Ceiling again. We are the party of tomorrow. And we will build a true democracy in america. I must tell you, i have known Hillary Clinton for many years. She is one of the most qualified candidates to ever run for president. She is a leader, sometimes against the win to break down barriers that divide us. She is smart. She is smart. She could have done anything with her life, but she decided long ago she didnt want to do just well. She wanted to do good. So she has dedicated her life to Public Service and building a better america for all of our people, for no up with would be left out or left behind. Sow tonight on behalf of our mothers trying to make ends meet, and our fathers who have not seen a pay increase in years, on behalf of the students trying to swim in a sea of debt. On behalf of all who suffered injustice, discrimination, who protesting for immigrants rights, gay rights, and more fairness in america. On behalf of all of the victims of gun violence, i give your leader, a brave leader, who can unite us as a nation and a people. A leader who can break down the barriers and build a Better Future for every american. He have fight for us all. With her heart, her soul, and her mind. My fellow democrats, im pleased to second the nomination for Hillary Clinton for Party Candidate for the president of the United States. John lewis the congressman seconding the nomination for Hillary Clinton. Now a very different kind of nominating speech. An immigrant, iraq combat. I was born on a dirt floor to a womans name i will never know. I know she loved me enough to give me up so i could live the life she wanted for me. A life without hunger or despair. Filled with hope and opportunity. As a baby, bundled up in the hopes and dreams of my mother, i began a new life in a far away land called america. I was raised by two women, and learned early on in life about intolerance and hatred. I also learned about the power of love, faith, and hope. The first time i saw hillary, she was on Tv Addressing a panel of men with such confidence and ownership of self. Her poise and presence fundamentally changed how i would claim my own space in the world. I was 11. Seven years later, my belief in america inspired me to raise my hand and swear to defend her ideals with my life. I joined the army as an ammunition specialist and gave the best of myself to a country that had given me so much. I returnrd from iraq to restore the faith of americas promise for everyone. Tonight in the birthplace of our nation, we renew our commitment to democracy. With a historic step towards gender equality. Reflected in broken shards of glass, and hillary herself, we can see the dreams of our daughters. This is americas promise. Along my journey i have called california, texas, georgia, and new york home. I know what connects us runs deeper than what divides us. If you can hear my voice tonight, join me and everyone in this hall by texting hillary to 47246 as we move forward together. I believe in americas promise where a child born into poverty can stand. To nominate the woman she admired as a little girl as the next president of the United States and my commander and chief. As an immigrant, a combat veteran, a woman of color, and my mothers daughter, i am american. My story is our story. The story of america. Thank you. Congressman marsha fudge will now introduce the rules, she is the chair of the Democratic National convention. Lets listen in to marsha fudge. Ladies and gentlemen, that concludes the nominations for our president ial candidates.
