CSPAN Interview With Representative Jacky Rosen May 9, 2017

I think its some point you have to say there are only 24 hours in the day, and set aside six for sleep. Congressman, thank you for talking to us and telling us a little bit about yourself. Thank you, greta. Councilman jacky rosen, representing the Third District of nevada, a democrat. Why did you decide to run for congress . I decided to run a little over a year ago. I will tell you why. One some of the folks around las vegas, senator reid and others approached me, they were looking for someone from our district who had lived there a long time. Raise a family, built a business, done community work. I took care of my parents and inlaws as they aged. I had experience. I had experience going through Social Security and medicare, and unfortunately rehab hospitals with broken next and hip necks and hips. They asked me if i would run. What spoke to me the most, i have done a lot of philanthropy. Im part of the largest synagogue in nevada. Bestelt to be most is the work you can do the serving the constituents in your district. That was in outgrowth of a lot of the philanthropy i have been doing and how i felt about Southern Nevada, and how it was so great for me to live there and read my family and friends there. I can help people there and take your voices here and use that to hopefully drive the legislation and a commonsense way. You mentioned senator harry reid. How did you know him before this process . Las vegas is a small town. I was there nearly 40 years. We have a lot of friends in common, especially through philanthropy work. When him and a few others reached out to me, they said this is who you are. You have been working so hard in the community to try to bring services, try to do good things. You can just take it to the next level and that really spoke to me. Did you ever see yourself in politics before this . If you have been anyone who has been a synagogue president , it was the biggest blessing of my life. I learned so much that really prepared me for here. They have a 10 acre campus. We service the house for so Many Community services. With family work promise and the homeless, tax services, open up our building to Community Service groups like aa and all those different things. You see across the spectrum the kind of people who come to your church or your synagogue. Military families, seniors, single mothers, single fathers, widows, people who have cancer. You see every type of person. Its kind of a crosssection of what the district is. I feel like helping them has taught me when i heard their stories and when i try to do for them in our small way, i can take out in a big way. Thats why i decided to run. One of the issues that came up early in congress is increased thrust the Jewish Community centers and jewish cemeteries. What you think about that . I think some of it is a little bit the internet. There is a veil of secrecy you can put up anonymously and that often emboldens people if they dont of the come out and say who they are. Im sorry to say this election cycle has been a lot of anger for whatever reason. Some of it is deserved, some of it not, but it emboldens people and not so good ways. I do want to say that when i say never again for a, it is never again for everyone. Jewish, butyou are if youre latino, black, lgbt. Whatever that is, we shall really be a country with these great values that are not built on hate. I want to promote cooperation and communication and tolerance everywhere we see it. That will keep us the wonderful nation we are. You were born in chicago, ruben minnesota. Added you make your way to Southern Nevada . My parents went to college in minnesota. And maybecould go on my program is still out there someplace. App before i wrote they were called app. I have a daughter, who is a junior in college. Your family staying out in nevada . I am an empty nester. My husband is a radiologist. For the last 10 years he has worked for ava hospital a v. A. Hospital. Although veterans he works with and the once he serves every day. What committees are you serving on . Among military personnel and tactical air and land, which is great because military personnel is very orphaned. 300 people whoy live in nevada is either a veteran or mille or an active duty military. Base. Have an air force working on tactical land and air is terrific. And the energy committee, hoping to work with water. Cyber security is something i really believe strongly in, that we need to improve on, strengthen. We need the iron dome of Cyber Security for a tactic in becoming an. I hope to work on that within the committee. On the energy subcommittee, is Yucca Mountain something that comes up . Yucca mountain, i measure extended jurisdiction of that committee or natural resources. It might come under natural resources. Im hoping to work on and a on that committee is water and renewable energy, solar. Seven nevada, 360 sunny days a year. Unlike washington. There are a lot of clouds here. Im hoping that will move forward with Solar Energy Development and research. And water issues. Water security and safety is so important to the national security. Are we farming in appropriate ways . Are we conserving in creating good ways to use our water . Thats really important for national security, safe and secure food sources and water sources. But its a gamble to come here. I wrote Computer Software in the early 1980s. The Howard Hughes corporation was the desert inn, the sands, a bunch of others. I know what happens behind the curtain. They dont build those big casinos. Have a great time, come to las vegas, enjoy your vacation. Like gambling is a little tough. The choice between visiting a casino and hoover dam . I would do both. We have the best food, the best shopping, great golf courses, great hiking, red rock canyon, we have hoover dam. We have the wonderful weather. Unbelievable shows and entertainment. Will not tell any topic covered strawberries you might have on the buffet, or whether goalscorer might really be. , have a great time. It is a wonderful list for a vacation and a great place to live.
