Kennedy to asclaim may 15 of each year peace officers memorial day, a brave which to honor the Law Enforcement officers who proudly wore the uniform, who daily served their communities in which they lived and worked thewho ultimately made supreme sacrifice in performance of their duties. Procclaymation was signed october 1, 1962. 20 years later, on may 15, 1982, first National Peace officers Memorial Service was , honoring 91 Law Enforcement officers from around who had given their lives in the line of duty. We honor 234 officers as families, friends and coworkers gather in this place celebrate the memory of those whose lives were taken in an instant while serving and protecting the citizen of our great nation. The law not a word Enforcement Community takes lightly. Its about character. Made of,t stuff youre the code you live by. Of being. Way the courageous heroes we honor not fake theird commitment to the citizens of their community. Took seriously their obligation and responsibility to protect. 234e we honor these officers for the hero we knew them to be, the loved ones, the friends and coworkers are remembering them for the person were. Death leaves a heartache no one but love leaves a steal. That no one can president Calvin Coolidge once everd, no person was honored for what he received. Honor has been for the reward what he gave. And im confident to say as i saw last year on the streets of county, indiana where thousands spontaneously poured forth to pay tribute to carl kuntz.
