[cheering] we can come up with the most powerful, passion argument, but the only thing these guys inside are scared of is all of you. And they have reason to be scared of you. There are people like you all over the country who are not going to stand for a united repealsenate that will health care that will jack up rate by 20 . You hold power in the states. Are you going to use that power . Yeah i want to show you who we are fighting for for a second. I have a family connecticut. They play by the rules. They do everything expected of them. Jobs duringswitched the twoweek period of time. Their son was diagnosed with cancer. Guess what happened when they went to enroll in their new plans . He had a preexisting condition. A preexisting condition that that Insurance Company would not cover. That family lost everything. They went through their Health Savings account. They went through the retirement account. They sold their house and went bankrupt. They are one of millions of families across this country who lost everything because they made a choice between their financial livelihood and the life of a child. You know what we found out a couple of weeks ago . The number of personal bankruptcies in this country has fallen by 50 . Do you know why . Because of the Affordable Care act. It is keeping people alive. [cheers and applause] so dont tell me that the Affordable Care act is in a death spiral. The only death row is if this health bill comes on. Rates going through the roof. That is the real death spiral. This is up to you guys. That are 52 senators here need to hear from you. You need to bring this to every single 1 the need to hear from you. You need to bring this to every single one of their offices. This is not right. Acceptable. And we are going to do everything in our power to stand up and stop this. Are you ready to do that . Thanks for everything you have done so far. Today was a tough vote. We all wished that we could have been done with this today and turned to focus on how we can improve our health care system. But it didnt happen. We need your help. We will defeat this bill and we are going to get on to discussions we need to have. Medicare for all we know very well the strength and the flaws of the American Health care system. My husband tom and i have two great kids. Mildest happens to experience severe cerebral palsy. He is a member of his community because we had access to health care, because his school had. Edicaid that is the difference health care can make. He also has the support of medicaidfunded services, even though we have private insurance. We all know there are some things even private insurance doesnt cover. Day, this is the about whether we are going to come together as a country and make sure we live up to the says thatl the says every single american counts. If every single one of us counts, every single one of us has to have health care. That is the deal. [cheers and applause] when everybody has access to health care, the opptunity to be health and to be productive, the talent and energy that is unique to our wonderful country, we strengthen each and every one of us. We are all productive together. We all thrive together that more than anything else is what todays vote will decide. I cant thank you enough for everything you already have done. But we need to keep fighting. What is at stake here is whether we are going to live and live up to that idea that says every person counts, every person matters, every person has capacity, every person has talent. We dont know what their bill is. They dont know what their bill is. They have the shell of a bill that has the house bill in it, the house bill filling the shell right now. Though we dont know what that is going to end up. It only cuts off 22 Million People from having health care. [booing] we may up with just the repeal. That is 32 Million People. [booing] they may have one of the versions of the senate bill, with the ted cruz amendment. [booing] b because it is ted cruzoo. And churns companies will not have to provide essential health benefits. They can go back to junk policies. It is going back to things before the Affordable Care act. Listen. We all want to go through regular order. We all wanted to have bipartisan hearings. We all want to have nonpartisan experts so that we can build on the successes of the aca. And so we can fix whats not working with it. That is what we need to do. We all know that. He said politics is not about power, not about money, not winning for the second winning. It is about working to improve peoples lives that is why we are all here. That is why we are here. That is why my colleagues are here. [applause] unfortunately, i guess my republican colleagues dont have the same philosophy. Because this will not prove peoples lives. This will help millions and millions of people. So if i could give you [indiscernible] we are going to make up her to support her participatory. Are we going to fight . Yeah are we going to welcome jeff barkley . Yeah health care, not Welfare Health care, not welfare allow this to be a bill that locks of those with existing conditions . No are we going to allow the republicans to pass a bill that will take care seniors and longterm care and throws them out on the street . Now there we going to allow passage says to disabled children that you get all you can get you dont get any more . Are we going to allow them to pass a bill that rips health care from 22 million americans . This. Tell you we must come together, grassroots america has stood up time and time again to slow down and to stop the diabolical effort to Rip Health Care from millions. And now we have to call in grassroots america again to flood our phones, to fill area mailboxes. Will you do it . Yeah we filled the streets outside every Republican Office across america . Yeah we need that kind of action right now. And then come after we put a stake through the heart of this diabolical bill and bury at six feet under, lets get health care for all medicare, medicare for all, for every Single Health care for all, medicare for all, for every single american. How about just by being born an american to get straightforward, Quality Health care . [cheering] and how about we pass a bill that takes on the Drug Companies that said americans will not pay more for drugs made in the United States than people overseas . Yeah and how about we make every possible effort to say that we are going to have health care as a fundamental right . Yeah so that is what we are going to do together. I am senator from illinois. I have a preexisting condition. Have many of you have a preexisting condition or love someone with a preexisting condition . They want to take your Health Care Away from you. They want to make your health care so expensive that you cant afford it. Cap so youo put a can watch her loved ones die when you reach that limit. Ive been watching day after floor inhey sat on the their wheelchairs for the people they love and said saved our lives. Save our lives. Our lives are worthy every single american is worthy. Y. Single american is worth the all one unfortunate accident away from a preexisting condition. We cannot be a country that says that if you are sick or ill, we will leave you behind. If you have a child who happens to be bond with a preexisting condition, we will let that child die. No, that is not who we are. We are the greatest democracy in the face of the earth. We do not leave people behind. We were talking about the republicans stacking the deck against consumers when it comes to their credit cards, etc. That is what they are debating on the floor, to take away the rights of people to have a chance in court. As senator duckworth said, almost every family in america has someone with a preexisting medical condition. Almost every family. And if you dont, you probably will. Many Health Care Professionals say everyone of my patients has a preexisting medical condition. Doing, butthey denying the basic health, essential health benefits. To give their friends tax breaks [applause] veterans areillion on medicaid. They are going through the whole veterans. 70 5 million are on medicaid. They are going to the whole list. Undermining all americans with a health bill that is actually a tax bill in disguise. [applause] theto give a tax break to wealthiest people in america. I came over to thank our Senate Democrats for their great leadership.
