American diplomat that i was reading the biography of karl marx, and his he said i wouldnt admit it if i was reading it. However, he later listened to me tell him why. I think the panic is in the minority. I think free speech and education makes the difference. What do you think . Are you in the majority or not . I dont think theyre in the majority. If they are in the majority we would be looking at Something Like germany in 1934. It doesnt take a majority to create a lot of violence and death and destruction and payne. Education up to a point is a factor, but some very highly educated people have expressed very panicked thoughts. Maybe they are availing themselves but i dont think just because one is educated, one doesnt necessarily address personal needs for certitudes. Thank you. Another question . When you talk it reminds me not of politics but medical advertising. Three of five people work this, or you try to talk about an allergy, and most things are not abc. And throw statistics out. One of my favorites, three of five recommended some for their patients to chew gum. Statistics are persuasive and if you cast them in the right light that will help make your case. Yes. Now in good medical research, they might be eliminating that, one way they tried to tease out causation and correlation is placebos, to see if in fact the drug is causing this affect or not so there is the distinction there. Just because you are paranoid doesnt mean someone is in following you. Im wondering instead of retrospectively if you have thought about what the next panic is. You talked about 9 11 and that is still going on, we are feeling the effects of the increase in National Security and you can see it when you walk in an airport. What is the next panic we will see . Good question. I hate to say i dont know. A lot of panics are on going. I talk about that in the book, particularly panic involving arab muslims after 9 11. So many factors, the world is like a cloud. What will be the next thing to cause fear . I dont know. You mentioned howard k. Smith. You as a newsman in the time before the 24 7 news cycle. Lets make a news organization, say fox which had a lot of people a serious point. Do you see the 24 7 news cycle having any effect on panic increasing, decreasing, or in different than 1897 when a letter to four days to reach across the country . Absolutely i think Media Outlets such as fox do contribute to panic. It is different from 1897. Actually, no. And the point i want to make by saying no is all of us in this room live in a certain bubble in some respects. Maybe it is not a bubble, time will tell but in some way we are kind of the closing phase for now in journalism, not really always the case. I am not a journalistic historian. Dont hold me to every phrase i use. I call it loosely the edward r. Murrow school of journalism. He was a great broadcaster for cbs during of the war and in the years that followed the war and agree number of news kate sears followed in his footsteps, i dont want to credit him with creating this. The notion that the news media, newspapers, television news, mass media news, should try to be as objective in possible in reporting the news and separate editorial from news content as best as humanly possible. But in fact in the history of american journalism that is unusual. I will give an example. When i was working on this book, i would be reading pieces from the New York Herald in the 1840s and 50s, my work looks at that library of congress, i said to her which was the New York Herald . Everything you have to understand wall street was financing the common trait in this country. The whole International Cotton trade. They had deep economic interests tied to this southern industry t d the New York Herald was wrote this book and found two libya be easier to create a panic today if someone decided to use the media than it would be in these historic things . Would it make a difference . I dont know back in the day how much the average reader ascribed validity to something they read in the New York Herald or was it more like something in the 50s and 60s, the russians would read pravda with a jaundiced view. Not all russians but there were some. But clearly in a way correlation causing assumption, correlation, the information we get from a guy shouting on a corner tends not to be accurate. Correlation to something weve read in the Washington Post or the New York Times tend to be right. You see it on tv. We correlate that yes today than we did 20 years ago in places like fox. They tend to be right. So they are a wonderful book called the Tipping Point that talks about messengers, gets very much talking about who is the most effective messenger. Any more questions . All right. Thank you. [applause] over here. [inaudible conversations] is there a Nonfiction Author or book you would like to see featured on booktv . Send as an email to booktv cspan. Org, tweet us at booktv, post on our wall facebook. Com booktv. Now on booktv, Katie Pavlich argues that while republicans are constantly blamed for waging a war on women the real war on women is being conducted by democrats. She said liberal heroes like president clinton and president obama are some of the worst offenders. This is about 50 minutes. All right. Good afternoon. Thank you to everyone for taking time out of your friday in the summertime to come paying out with me. That is something i cant get over. Thank you for being here. Citizens in the back waving to you. I thank everyone for being here. Thanks for the roundtable, we really appreciate it, she is a longtime supporter of Young Americas Foundation and i wanted to let mr. Rodriguez let you know that although a lot of people wear those tshirts when i was in college my mother sent me an anti i read get the award to my africanamerican studies course. [applause] you can imagine how well that went over specifically i wore it particularly when they would start boosting the lesson plan. It was great. Hy wants to start by thanking the Young American foundation for having me today. When they sal was inspired to do what im doing now as a result of attending a conference here in 2008 it is absolutely true. Young America Foundation does change the lives of students especially when theyre constantly in a hostile environment in their College Campuses. What we provide in terms of tools and mentor ship for people is extremely important and i continue the work they do really has an impact. Living in washington d. C. And seeing all the graduates of the american Foundations Program working in policy positions or media, really making a difference really proves how important your support is and how important this organization has been for years but especially now in the modern age. Obviously i am here today to talk about my latest book, assault and flattery the truth about the left and their war on women. I will start by addressing how utterly absurd it is that the left is portrayed as a champion of women. Every book comes from an idea. I definitely had a few of those moments leading up to the right up of this book. The first came in february of 2012 when nancy pelosi invited freddie mac georgetown law student to testify on capitol hill about why taxpayers should foot the bill for contraception. At the time in the media she was portrayed as a young woman in her early 20s but that wasnt true. She had been well into her adult years for a decade before making his statements on capitol hill. My office is in roslyn, va. Which is right across the river from Georgetown University where miss sandra went to law school. After listening to her testimony i looked across the river in disbelief and just thought how is it that at my age which was 23 at the time of her testimony come as a young professional working hard to pull a paycheck and pay my own bills, this 30yearold woman wants me as a taxpayer to pay for anything other than my own medical bills, medical needs and anything else i think i should be having in my life. I was in disbelief. I couldnt believe, why was it 9 a month was that big of a deal for strong, independent woman to come up with. And the answer to is this was the left obviously likes to uphold people who simply passed responsibility for their actions on to others which is why i wasnt surprised when she was upheld as a hero and then of course put out on the campaign trail in 2012. Then another moment that led up to the writing of the book came when i was sitting at the 2012 the in Sea Convention in charlotte, n. C. And my job as a reporter in journalist was to sit through lots of different speeches and for hours and days i had been listening to speech after speech about mitt romneys war on women, conservatives hate women and not only did bill clinton speak on the same night that sandra spoke, but the dnc on demand ann coulter described as having the only confirmed kill on the war on women. The tv cameras didnt catch this because it was during a break but because i was there i did. In between speakers the dnc plated seven minute long glorious tribute video to none other than ted kennedy. Theyre complaining about the war on women. As if that wasnt bad enough, as they plastered the words womens right champion in all capital letters across the screen of the video they were playing. It was Pretty Amazing actually. For some reason they skipped over one of the most important and iconic moments of his life, the time when he drove drunk off a bridge, wandered away and left the 20yearold will Campaign Staffer who happened to be a woman to die in the car. No one dared to the the words chappaquiddick that night. They were not going to talk about is in the arena and certainly not in the media but i had plans to talk about it later that night. [applause] luckily, peers morgan still had a show. I was booked on a Political Panel appears morgans shows at night and i was on with peers morgan obviously. My friend Richard Bruno to serve as one of National Security advisor is for mitt romney and worked for the un, hilary rosen who famously said and romney never work today in her life and then jones, the selfappointed communist. Before sitting on set i was hoping, hoping piers morgan would bring up ted kennedy because it would be my moment and thankfully that moment came. In this city as they played, back to the convention, they showed mitt romney debating ted kennedy when mitt romney was challenging him for a seat in the 90s and mitt romney said in this debate that he was prochoice, obviously has since changed his position. That didnt stop peers morgan from asking me does it make you uncomfortable or hearing mitt romney espousing the doors of being prochoice . I just responded and said you know what made me uncomfortable . That at a convention that claims to be fighting the war on women that they would play a lanky, 7 minute video, a tribute to a man who left a woman to drown in his car. [applause] after that the panel exploded. We cant bring of chappaquiddick, no way, we can talk about how mitt romney bullied a kid when he was 13 the wind wont talk about what happened with ted kennedy so hilary rosen, a staunch defender despite claiming theres a war on women immediately yelled come on, appears morgan, on air said my comment was below the belt. What ever. During the commercial break the rose and turned to me and said i think what you said was disgusting to which i responded i think what he did was disgusting. [applause] on a serious note, ted kennedy is portrayed as this perfect example of how the left is supposed to be 8 and he is a false hero but he isnt the only false heroes that the left has portrayed in the media as if theres a difference, portrayed for liberals to look up to. Hillary clinton is also one of those people and most people dont know really about Hillary Clintons real record because on College Campuses she is portrayed as the ultimate female figure who provides a glowing example for women everywhere. The fact is that she doesnt. Her other legacy is one of defending racists and sexual predators. Im not just talking about her husband, bill clinton. Are you ok with that . Are you all right . To give you a little bit of evidence of this, audio of Hillary Clinton gleefully defended the child rapist was published by the freebie can. To give the laidback story on this in 1975 in her time as an attorney Hillary Clinton took on the case of Thomas Alfred taylor who brutally waked the 12yearold girl at the age of 41. Clinton said she thought taylor was guilty. The issue isnt her defense of the accused. After all this is america, the worst of the worst in our society get their day in court and are entitled to an attorney. Instead the issue is clintons behavior after getting tower of a lengthy sentence for his crime when she thought he was guilty. He served less than one year in prison. A reported, quote, describing the event a decade after they occurred clinton struck a casual and complacent attitude toward her client in the trial rate for a minor. I had him take a polygraph, clinton said which he passed which forever destroyed my faith in polygraphs and she started laughing. You can hear several points during this audio laughing and saying that oh the crime lab lost all of the evidence, the accidental destruction of the evidence is why taylor got off from the crime because he was no longer tied to the crime to to lack of evidence but apparently the destruction, accidental destruction of dna evidence wasnt enough for Hillary Clinton to go on. So instead she attacked the 12yearold victim, girl , as possible the emotionally unstable and someone who may be exaggerating romanticizing asexual experience. The 12yearold. Further, clinton wrote in an affidavit that the time i have been informed she is emotionally unstable with a tendency to seek out older men and engage in fantasizing. So she went out of her way to attack the victim in the case who was the 12yearold child who happened to be a young girl. The daily beast followed up with an interview of the rape victim, obviously a couple decades now and she heard this audio of Hillary Clinton laughing at her, for getting the man who raped her off and she said, quote, Hillary Clinton took me through hell. She took you lied about me and i realize the truth now. Wishy did to me, she is supposed to be for women, you call that being for women, what you have done for me . I hear you on that tape laughing . Seems pretty shocking that this newly uncovered audio is just one piece of Hillary Clintons long legacy career and life of defending sexual predators. Clintons history of Sexual Assault and abuse of young women under the rug for her personal and political game just as the left has done to women for decades is nothing new. And it persists today. Fastforward a few years, relieve the child rapist of any consequence for justice and you find for decades she willfully helped destroy the women who her husband, former president bill clinton was accused of sexually assaulting or rating. Funny how the left constantly screams the rape culture but they refused to address the rape culture that goes on in their own party. Time and time again instead of holding her husband accountable she defamed his female accusers as mentally unstable moons looking for money and clinton repeatedly allowed women to be lied about, third and manipulated so her philandering husband could hold onto power which eventually led to her own position as a senator from new york, president ial candidate and president obamas secretary of state. Speaking of her record at the state department, what exactly did she do during her tenure there . The pattern of behavior continues. She ignored sexual abuse of minor girls by highranking state Department Employees and she was ambassador to belgium, routinely ditching his protective security detail in order to solicit sexual favors from prostitutes and minor children in a nearby port including to an internal many by chief Inspector General investigator. State Department Security officials stationed in beirut was accused of engaging in multiple Sexual Assaults and further u. S. Embassy official was removed for allegedly trading visas for sexual favors. Cbs news first reported last year at least 7 of Hillary Clintons security agents routinely hired prostitutes on official trips overseas. This bad behavior was described as endemic by whistleblowers and although the agents were eventually reassigned they were not seriously punished and when investigations were launched into misconduct they were immediately shut down by Hillary Clintons chief of staff. The female whistleblowers who brought this to their attention, who spoke out against and exposed what was going on inside the state department were retaliated against doing so. Whistleblower kerri howard was run out of the Foreign Service and stripped of her job and was bullied for exposing u. S. Counsel general dollar or more when he allegedly engaged in sexual activities with women inside his Government Office and with call girls in naples. This is just a snapshot of clintons legacy of defending rapists and sexual predators. She has done it for decades but has somehow been portrayed as a womens rights champion. Record proves the opposite. Hillary clinton will go down in history as americas most famous in a blur of abusive and powerful men. The debate about Hillary
