This might be present at a listening session with the attorney general and fraternal order of police, with the Vice President to discuss lawenforcement issues related to terrorism and innercity violence. The fraternal order of police, the Worlds Largest organization of sworn Law Enforcement officers with more than 330,000 members. The group held an indepth discussion about the rights of Violent Crime in some parts of the country. Registered increase of members of Law Enforcement being targeted, ambush style attacks and the need to address the countries opioid academic, epidemic comics tuesday. Attorney general sessions still the fop leadership he looks for to continuing to work closely with them to tackle the challenges facing Law Enforcement as they work to keep our community say. As i mentioned at the top the president will sign an executive order on Energy Independence at the environment of Protection Agency headquarters. The president strongly believese protecting the environment and promoting our economy are not mutually exclusive goals. This executive order will help to ensure that we have clean air and clean water without sacrificing Economic Growth and job creation. First it directs all agencies to conduct a review of all regulation, rules, policy and guidance documents that put up roadblocks in Domestic Energy production and identify the ones that are not either mandated by law or actually contributing to the public good. It also rescinds a number of the previous administrations actions that dont reflect this administrations priorities. The full list is laid out an executive order which will be provided to link today after the president signs it. Next the order directs the epa to take several actions to reflect this president environmental and economic goals including a review of the new performance standards for coalfired and natural gasfired plants that amount to a de facto ban on new coal plant production in the united states. This is great news for states like wyoming, West Virginia, kentucky, pennsylvania and others. Finally the order establishes a direct of agencies use the best adipocytes and economic in the regulatory analysis moving forward. For too long the federal government has acted like a barrier to Energy Independence and innovation. By reducing unnecessary regulatory obstacles we will free up American Energy companies to responsibly use our vast energy resources, protecting the environment while creating wellpaying jobs throughout the country. American electricity producer, producers have done an amazing job of adapting and utilizing new technologies to deliver clean power to the united states. Under President Trump the federal government is going to acknowledge that that progress and adjusted priorities accordingly. Moving on, later this afternoon the present will meet with secretary of state tillerson and sector, and security kelly. This eating the president and first lady walzer host a reception in the white house for senators and their spouses. This would be the first on the President Trump has imbibed all current senators to the white house and he looks forward to this opportunity as well as to speak with some of the senators about the places where they can come together and make this country better. One of those places he hopes to find Common Ground with Senate Democrats tonight is the confirmation of judge neil gorsuch to the Supreme Court. Yesterday Many Democrats begin declaring support for Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer is partisan filibuster of judge gorsuch. As i said these senators come if they get their way, this would be for successful filibuster of our nominee to join the Supreme Court. Leading democrats have limited these tactics as recently as last year. Senator schumer wrote last year in an oped in the New York Daily News and the quote at a a time when americans want to move forward the last thing we need, the last thing is a new recipe for gridlock in the Supreme Court. Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton said of the Supreme Court confirmation progress quote it should not be an exercise in political brinksmanship and partisan posturing, and that nominees to a quote for an fair hearing followed by a vote. Claire mccaskill of missouri tweeted the constitution says the senate shall advise and consent and that means having an up or down vote. So who are Senate Democrats going to enact this on an external links to block . Its an individual frankly who the body including senator schumer unanimously confirmed for a seat on the tenth circuit not too long ago. This is a jet received a unanimous wellqualified rating by the american bar association. He was a harvard law graduate who received the Edward J Randolph award for Outstanding Service in the department of justice pic so it cant be the qualifications are taking issue with. Judge gorsuch is frankly a mainstream judge. Here are some figures to point that out. Number one, in 90 of the cases which issued the opinion he received unanimous support of all of his colleagues. Second, in divided cases of the last five years involving both republican and democrat appointed judges come judge gorsuch sided with the democrat appointed judge one in three times. When the shoe was on the other foot when the Supreme Court nominee for democratic president went to the confirmation hearing in meeting meeting with senatorm both parties, neither justices taken nor so to my or face an attempted senate filibuster. Both received repugnant votes in support of the confirmation. During that kagan nomination when senator harry reid plan to file a cloture motion to bring it to about it was then senator and now current attorney general Jeff Sessions who stopped him and said quote i have a High Standard before i would attempt to block an up or down vote and asks him to read to proceed with a boat without the need for overcoming a republican filibuster. Judge gorsuch has met with most of the Senate Democratic caucus. He is gone two days of hearings and answer probing questions. He is eminently qualified and deserves the deference and consideration from the minority Senate Democrats. That president obama selections were given once theyre through the confirmation process. A few things i want to highlight. Last night the president announced his intent to nominate to serve as assistant attorney general of the antitrust division at the department of justice. And thats when we announced the president s declaration of major disaster in a state of nevada and ordered federal assistance to supplement Recovery Efforts in areas affected by severe storms, flooding and mudslides this past february. And finally the president is pleased to announce 1. 2 billion investment in green manufacturing facilities in michigan, just two weeks after automobile executives came to the white house and met with the president. This adds to the growing wave of positive jobs is under president continued investment from charter communication, his approval of the permit for keystone xl pipeline on friday and in addition Energy Transfer partners reported monday that the Dakota Access pipeline has been filled with oil as a end of the file five stages of preparation that will finally put this into service. According to data released by the Conference Board in march Consumer Confidence quote sore to its highest level in 1 16 years. From individual announcements a significant boost in both consumer and ceo confidence generally its clear the president s economic agenda is what americas business have been waiting for. These businesses have spent years doing held back by unnecessary bureaucratic red tape and what were seeing is a taste of the heights our economy can reach once those burdens are removed. And lastly i want to make a comment on a false report regarding former acting attorney general sally yates. As a matter fact i like to walk you through the sequence of events just which are and what is abundantly clear on what happened. On march 14, chairman newness and raking membership and Biden Sally Yates Tesla march 28 pick on march 23 sally yates attorney sent a letter to the department of justice asking for their consent to testify without constraints. On march 24 the department of justice responded the president own to those privileges to discuss the communications they were requesting to talk about and referred them to the white house. Also on the 24th herb attorney sent a letter to the white house counsecounsel requesting that ct specifically stated that if they did not receive a response by march 27 at 10 am they would quote conclude that the white house does not assert executive privilege over these matters. The white house did not respond and took no action that prevented ms. Yates from testifying. Thats the story. Thats with the documents show, and without im glad to take some questions. Id like to follow on that because there are reports that even though they hearing that was set for the 27th was not scheduled, it was canceled by devin nunes to prevent this white house from publicly invoking or claiming executive privilege. Can you speak about . It was never, lets be honest. Hearing was never, was actually never notified. If they choose to move forward great. We have no problem with her testifying. Plain and simple. The report in the Washington Post is 100 false. The letters that they frankly published on the website all back up everything i just read. All of the letters are available on their website. I hate to give them the traffic but the route is that they specifically say if you dont respond were going to go ahead. We didnt respond if we encouraged them to go ahead. Which is suggesting any way, shape, or form that we stood in the way of that is 100 false. Brian. Spin a couple things you said earlier. A couple quick followups. Best available science, does that mean there would be no further Scientific Research . You dont want to Fund Additional Scientific Research . Number two, what other issues would you like to see the present reach out to democrats do it tonight . So on the first one, best sitescience is best sites and tt is Space Available is what you said. Right. If its not available its tough to use. But is it a code for no. Thats a code for its got to be available. Plain and simple. You should read anything into that. The president will speak more to that at todays signing at 1 30. At 2 oclock rather, sorry. I think theres a host of issues. Talk about health care, if you want to come together infrastructure, tax reform. Wed love to have as much support as possible. A couple questions. One, toll. Your action today, the white house is thinkable reverse president obamas were on call took a lot of people in the coal industry suggest john shall not come back in the Industry Based on the way to his just change, technology and other things. Does this administration of an estimate of how many jobs will be created as a result of the actions taken today . Im not aware of one, estimate. I know the president has met with some of the coal miners the other day and senators from West Virginia and other some kentucky that were here. We did that sign a few days ago. I will tell you that from a mining perspective, the miners and the owners are very, very bullish on this. The people who are actually in the business applaud this effort complete it would do a lot to revive the industry. Its a private interest is not going to get into who does what, but i know that the industry itself said so. Steve. Im sorry. [inaudible] two weeks after the automakers met her at the white house. Did the white house and the president do anything and that meeting . I think theres been some regulatory effort and some commitments on the regulatory efforts Going Forward in the future that i think may have played a role. I would ask ward on that. I think weve seen a number of industry leaders, union leaders, truckers, Truck Companies come in, talk about burdens. Theres been several cases where meetings in the white house or frankly we went to michigan and held that roundtable out there as well, the meetings that we have have a very positive followup in terms of a commitment from a company or an industry to create jobs, to invest more in this country. In each of these cases does the white house get political credit for this . I will leave it up to four to make that determination. We are pleased with more americans getting jobs throughout various sectors, and i think we will continue in the president made it clear he continued to fight to bring back jobs in manufacturing here in the country. Steve. Tax reform, could you go through what is the president s of bottomline . Doesnt need to have middleclass tax relief, Corporate Tax relief . Can you do it comprehensively or piecemeal . Do you add Infrastructure Spending to it somehow . How are you looking at this . On the first two, those are both key components, the middle class, individual tax use of it and then the corporate rate has to come down to i think those are Guiding Principles that the president has laid out. As far as how the process works, there are i think, i dont want to get ahead of the folks in the legislative affairs of the guys on capitol hill but i would suggest to you theres attitude out there that at 418 reconciliation is probably the most likely people to move some of this. F. 18. What what to do is keep a lot of options on the table in terms of do we put in for stark and his or her another vehicle. But part of gathering folks together now from capitol hill from industry, from groups is to begin the discussion to talk about what needs to go in, what the way forward is and then so that conversation has begun and it is continuing. Do think you have some recommendations to take to the president . Well, integrally the team has been talking to him for a while. I think theres a big discussion that has to happen as we branched out with outside groups, industry, members of capitol hill, et cetera, that start to formulate some Additional Listing that needs to happen on this, and again i think part of it is that the legislative strategy and needs to tie this. Blake. Does the white house truly involved in any negotiation on the Health Care Bill . If so, in what manner . Staff has met with individuals and listened to them. So i dont know how detailed you want, i mean, are we, and we had some discussions and listen to ideas . Yes. Are we actively planning an immediate strategy . Not at this time. There is a discussion that began as a mentioned yesterday of a lot of individual both sides of the aisle reaching out to both the president and key Staff Members to share ideas and additional ways forward. So there has been a discussion and i believe there will be several more. What would you say to the folks who have a genuine concern that if you could not get healthcare done, how do you go about giving bigticket items like tax reform and infrastructure done . People say she cant get one, how are you going to the next . What would you say to that concern . Again, i mean, were going to build a coalition for this. I think each of them have different constituencies and i think we will work with members of both sides of the aisle on both of those bigticket issues to see what we can find agreement and move forward but i dont want to prejudge the outcome at this point. John. Thank you, sean. We will do both. All right. Just as a followup question, did the president himself had any discussions with speaker ryan or later mccarthy or anyone over the weekend about healthcare and making an actual vote on the Vice President to discuss lawenforcement issues related to terrorism and innercity violence. The fraternal order of police, the Worlds Largest organization of sworn Law Enforcement officers with more than 330,000 members. Just as a followup question, did the president himself had any discussions with speaker ryan or later mccarthy or anyone over the weekend about healthcare and making an actual vote on the American Health care act . And one got the impression from speaker ryan today that is going to try to pass this with republican votes, which would contradict some of your statements about reaching out to democrats all along. As any of this come up with discussions between each side of pennsylvania avenue . So i think i talked yesterday they have spoken a few times. About different strategies, different ideas, to the policy aspects of the bill. [inaudible] absolutely. At least on a number, at least two, maybe three times they have spoken and i know several of the staff there was also engaged in discussions, again, to talk about potential ways forward. So those conversations have occurred. I think thats what i mentioned to blake, mention some of it yesterday. If we can find a way forward we will do it. What, i dont think just so were clear, to your question, im not saying we pick a stack and well go with this group or that group. I think the president was, several people reached out and express an interest in the president s view is hes willing to listen to them and hear what their ideas are. I made a comment yesterday that, just so were clear. We have, lets call it 205, 207, 207, some are in their votes. Right . 8210 depending on what it is. The point that i made yesterday is to get to 216, to get to 218 to be on the day of the week, there are certain things that people want that would take what i think the president views as a very good bill that were worth doing because it would make a deal bad. So the question is can add the additional votes with, and ways that enhance the bill or bring people over that of an previous skeptic. But theres a way in which people are saying hey, if you bring the onboard with these five provisions, then im on board, in which either take people off the bill or dont make it a strong and make it a bad deal. I think thats the balancing act that has to happen. What is can you add additional folks on with a punching additional folks off . And two, what you add to the bill, doesnt make it strong or does it not . I think there are suggestions by some other goods and were willing willing to come along with the bill but in doing so it would make it a bad deal. Thats an important aspect, is how do you take whatever that number is that we have now and get it up to 216 to pass without making, without losing people and or making it a bad deal . Hold on. Republican votes, not democrats spirit however we get there, john. Yesterday you were not able to tell us very much about congressman nunes visit to the white house. A democrat on the committee today said that the white house would have known that he was here come the sentiment also said it looks like a criminal coverup to him. My question to you is have you learned any more information since you have this conversation yesterday about how he would it even got in at how he wouldve gotten cleared . Do you think congressman nunes should recuse himself or making charges to the russia investigation at this point . On the latter part of that its not up to me. Hes a member of house, appointed to the speaker. That is entirely up to the speaker at the house of representatives. When not going to start commenting on that stuff. I do think is running an investigation which we asked for. And i think the thing thats important to note is there somewhat of a double standard when it comes to classified information. When leaks are made illegally to the press, ill report them. The coverage focuses almost entirely on the substance of the allegation, that a part of an illegal leak not on the illegal nature of the disclosure, the identity of the leaks or their agenda. But when the that is occurring now, which is to individuals who are properly cleared or three or whoever he met with, i dont know, that they are sharing something that is entirely legal with the appropriate clearances and then theres an obsession on the process. Its sort of, its a backwards way that when you ill report on something with sources that are leaking illegally leaking classified information, thats appropriate and fine. No one questions that. The substance and material. Went to individuals or however many are engaged in this process have a discussion that is 100 legal and appropriate and cleared him suddenly the obsession becomes about the process and not the substance. And i think that it is somewhat reckless and, how the conversation over classified information is discussed without while sort of attempting to press a false narrative that exists. So while it is completely appropriate to share classified information with individuals who are cleared, it is clearly not the case to do that with, when its illegally leaked out. I think thats sort of the irony of how this whole conversation has gone. John. Just following up on the statement with regard to the Washington Post story. [inaudible] no. Spirit why is that . You would be in a position to invoke privilege come after all these were not Privilege Communications between i know this will be a shocker but again part of it is that i think weve been very clear that when you actually get to the bottom of the facts, every Single Person has been briefed on this as i said at nazi him, been very clear that there is no connection that attanasio. I think that you hear was great, go share now. So no peer and thats where the Washington Post should be ashamed of how it handled this story. It was 100 false. The letters they actually published back up exactly what were saying. That she was asked about this information. Their attorney asked the doj. The doj said she had asked the white house. They made it very clear if you dont do this we are going to go forward. We had no objection to her Going Forward. Thats it. Hold on. Next. Theres an order here. Just quickly follow up on that. I have two questions. So were taking what youre saying as assurances that chairman nunes decision to call off the hearing did not have anything to do with any pressure from the white house . No. Thank you. On a different topic we are seeing more states, maine, virginia, kansas pacific when moving to expand medicaid under the Affordable Care act joining the 30 plus states have already done that. What is President Trumps message to republican legislators in the states now that the Affordable Care act future is uncertain . Theres a reason he explained to congress and especially numbers with talk about entitlement expansion and why we should pass this bill last week and why we need to address it now. Its a major issue. Its one of our talking points i hope they listen. [inaudible] he understands that the way, the way it was handled in terms of the ablebodied provision of that right now are leading to an implosion on that piece of entitlement and that there was an opportunity to refocus it and put the money at a lot of the authorities back to the states to best determine how to handle issues within their states, both in terms of high risk pools and individuals that they wanted to cover. We, frankly, the bill made a much more states Rights Program and immature states rights Decision Making process in terms of how to care for the population that they had to address. Cecelia. A couple things. How and when exactly did the white house [inaudible] the letter that her attorney said literally says that if we do not receive a response by march 27 at 10 am, i will conclude that the white house does not exert executive privilege over the matters with respect to things or otherwise. I dont think you can be any clearer than that speak so you are saying executive privilege does not no no. Im not saying anything. Im literally, thats what she wrote. The action was a veto act and we will assume the following. Great. I dont think you can read that any other way. It was very, shes, he is a very talented lawyer and was specifically for the wii read it that way and chose not to act because with no problem with her testifying. Plain and simple. Speak so its not an issue with sally yates testifying . Thats correct. I dont, if you understand, this is very clearly worded and yet somehow you ask me how to interpret that in any other way than literally reading plain English Speaking okay. Something else. Does the president feel Climate Change is out . Youll hear more today about the climate and what he believes. I think he understands, he does not believe that as i mentioned at the outset that there is a a binary choice between job creation and Economic Growth and caring about the environment and thats what we should be focusing on. I think at the end of day where we should be focusing on is making sure all americans have clean water, clean. We do begin to preserve and protect our environment. Sean, dont seem so happy. Anyway, with all of these investigations, questions of what is, how does this Administration Try to revamp its image to a half months in, you have other things going on, russia, wiretapping no, we dont have that. Spin on capitol hill no no. I did it but i sent it from the day that i got here into whatever, there is no connection. You got russia. If the president puts russian salad dressing on a subset somehow thats a russian connection with every Single Person but i appreciate your agenda but the reality is hold on. No. Some board report the fact that the facts are that every Single Person who has been briefed on the subject has come away with the same conclusion. Republicans, democrats come on soy that discuss you. You are shaking your head. I appreciate it but doesnt understand this but at some point the facts are what they are and every Single Person who has been briefed on the situation with respect to the situation with russia, republicans, democrats, obama appointee career have all come to the same conclusion, at some point, april, youre going to have to take no for an answer with respect to whether or not there was collusion. When used a negative word its interesting that you ask the questions back to back. On the one hand youre saying what are we doing to improve our image and here he is again needing somebody that hasnt been a big supporter of his. Hold on. April, hold on. It seems like you are hellbent on trying to make sure whatever image you want to tell about this white house because at the end of the day, okay. Youre asking me a question and im going to answer which is the president , stop shaking your head again. At some point the reality is in this president continues to reach out to individuals who supported him, didnt support him, republican, democrat to bring the country together and move forward on an agenda thats going to support every american. If you ask what we are doing we continue to do it which is to bring groups together that have been supportive of him, having been supportive but to share a goal which is finding some ground on areas of natural security, personal security, economic security, of job creation, paper communities, education, of healthcare that can unite us as a country and make the country stronger. Im not ready to, when were done with that we will see if we can have a readout. I understand that. Were not it friday yet, i will have a readout when its done. I know the full meeting has gone to the advance with the signing, thank you. Ill be back tomorrow, five days in a row. Thank you.
