CSPAN3 Holocaust Survivor Anna Grosz August 16, 2016

Not for being jewish, but to be communist to be on the list that you want to leave the country, which we did, could not have the same rights or could not go the children also to higher schools. The same like the hungarians did. So it wasnt a pleasure to live in a communist country because you had a job, but it was so little or small, i dont know how to say it, that you couldnt live there. So we had to do something, with one word steal and if you stole, if they found it they put you in jail and they say there were three kinds of people in romanian, who is in jail, who was in jail and who will be in jail. So we were very happy when after 19 years they let us out from romanian, israel and america paid for our passports, and we were lucky that my two children was young enough to continue here the education. So thats my answer. If you have another answer, i have something without asking me i would say that when you buy a house the agent says is location, location, location. I would say education, education, education. [ applause ] because they took that away from me and i miss it for all my life. There are so many things that i would enjoy and know if i would have the education and they did not let me do that. They took that away from us. And thats like they would take my arm from me because all my rest of the family they were educated, but i was exactly in that age when romania was occupied, i was 14 finishing elementary school. So thats why i say you have the opportunity here to have the education and that nobody can take it away from you and its its more than millions of dollars the education that you have. Thank you, anna. Now, dont ask me one question which this is not my first time that im here and i had a question. I dont know, it was a young girl, she asked me could you forgive and forget what they did to you . And i said, no. I cant. And i dont want to. Because when jesus christ to crucify he said that dont punish them, god, because they dont know what they are doing, right . But the germans knew what they are doing. So how can i forgive and forget . This is not a small thing to forgive and forget. I will not and i wont forgive and forget. Thank you, anna. So dont ask me that question. Anything else. I think we are ready now to close our program. Anna, thank you so very much. I thank you all to listening to me and i could talk for more than an hour. They made a good choice with me to talk because i was punished as a small girl that you talk too much. Thank you. [ applause American History tv airs on cspan 3 every weekend.
